picked up a GC system this morning after visiting the donation center. Lucked out and got a DOL-001 model, which iirc, has the option for digital hookups.
A little feel good story here as well:
Yesterday, before I took my grandson home; we went to Walmart and we went down the Nintendo isle. Told him to pick a color of Joycons (he ended up picking the grey ones), and his face immediately lit up when I told him that I was buying those for him. Also picked up a Pro Controller, and now that I own one; I don’t have the issues I had before with syncing one to my Switch. Also have my copy of Moero Chronicle Hyper at my mom’s place that I need to get, but that’ll probably be on Thursday.
Over half their consoles have had BC in some form. It’s not rose tinted glasses it’s fucking facts.

Nice. There some options with that if you want to conect your GC to HDMI compatible display there.
None are that cheap, I think the easiest and cheapest is the Insurrection Industries Carby at $80.
And you are jumping to conclusions and not understanding the data.
Look at it for it really is and you see that isn’t even half. Also your graph is very deceptive.
Game Boy and Game Boy Color aren’t separate systems
And the 3DS can’t run GBA or GB games.
SNES running Gameboy isn’t a backwards compatible example, the Super Game boy which is a adapter that fits into the SNES has full gameboy hardware inside. And the Gameboy ran concurrently with the SNES, not as it’s predecessor.
GameCube was not Backwards compatible with the GBA at all, the Game Boy Player has GBA hardware inside it. Same argument as the GB to SNES comparison.
Only actual backwards compatibility is that the GBA ran GB/GBC games, the DS ran GBA games, Wii Ran GC, and Wii U can run Wii.

Ultimately until Nintendo finalizes what the Switch’s successor hardware is going to be we won’t know if it will be BC or not. However if they stick with Nvidia it is more probable then not.

Actually they were. The GBC processor was twice as fast as the GB and it had three times the RAM. The GBC played all GB games. The GB could not play GBC (clear cartridge) games. After the GBC’s release there were three different GB cartridges. The classic gray that were monochrome palette. Black cartridges, standard Gameboy games that displayed color on the GBC, and clear GBC cartridges. GBC games were built around GBC hardware and could not run on the GB. I think you are confusing the Gameboy Color with the Gameboy Pocket.

No really, the GBC is more akin to a PS4 Pro with VR capabilities

It isn’t. That statement makes no sense. VR can be used on the base PS4. There isn’t any PS4 Pro exclusive titles. If there were no clear carts and only the black “palette” enhanced carts, you’d have a leg to stand on.

Except that the PS4 other than the Pro can’t support VR as is. It needs an additional add-on
PS VR is an addon. I don’t even know what you are on about. You are going full Jion Wasu. No matter which PS4 you own, you need to buy addition hardware to make use of VR. What does an add on have to do with a self contained console. How does that relate to the GBC being the successor to the GB and the GB not playing GBC cartridges?
