Honestly if it was just cyborg soccer the game could have been a hit. But by trying to shoe horn another spin-off into a beloved franchise folk were hungry for Nintendo messed up.

Yea the mess up was that we hadn’t had a Metroid game in like 10 years, and the last one was Mother M at that which was not well recieved by much of anyone. So to come back after a 10 year hiatus with a spin off that isn’t remotely like Metroid…yea that was dumb. I personally wasn’t heated but I was disappointed and was like “that was really stupid Nintendo.”

Me & my cousin the only ones that like Other M. It actually felt like a Metroid game. Metroid Prime were decent but…Lol
Everyone’s issue with Other M was the total 180 they did to Samus when it came to her characterization. It was like watching an assassination in real time.
Yea i didnt think it felt like Metroid much at all. The exploration was pretty basic, its so linear in progression, the combats mashy, not that Metroid has amazing combat but making it all flash with little substance wasnt the right change imo, especially when you are simplifying the exploration. The story was hella stupid but I can put story aside if the gameplay is good…didnt think it was so the story becomes a change that only hurt instead helped.
Aside from the weird 3D and first person portions , Other M played really well. But the story, the mandatory Wii controls and previously mentioned sections killed the promising game features.

Passed the first level of the Master Sword trials, and got the damage up to 40 for the Master Sword.
The lizards and f’kin blue goblins gave me more trouble than the two giants!!

Search terms that can help you out in the Switch eStore
ACA, Arcade Archives, Neo Geo, as searching just Arcade genre and the Shooter genre don’t always give good results, nether is using the terms Shoot em Up or Shmup (as game shmups aren’t properly labeled in the store).

My one addition to that list as I am not familiar with the genre at all is Jamestown+.
I don’t know how “good” it is compared to other SHMUPs but I really enjoyed it. It’s a steam punk alternate timeline where the British have occupied mars. Chaos ensues.
Super fun. I played it a shit ton on PS4. It just released on Switch last week

James Town is a fantastic shmup, and great for a large rang of skills in the genre. It’s one I would easily recommend to beginners interested in getting into the genre.
@DoctaMario what kind of shmups do you like? Would be easier to make a recommendation that way as the Switch as seen has a large shmup library.
