I tried doing that and instantly gave up on it when it asked for credit information. Fuck that man. I’m not getting caught in that auto renew shit.
Maybe. This is the thing though and it’s kind ironic but Japan doesn’t have a very huge mobile gaming market when it comes to phones/tablets. Like it’s there, absolutely but it pales in comparison to China, South Korea, Europe and especially the states. That’s why the Nintendo hand helds, the switch and up until a year or so ago the Vita sell like gangbusters over there. So they know releasing DQ1-3 on Switch in Japan will sell like crazy. Cause the market is there. While I think it would sell fairly well outside of Japan. Collectively it wouldn’t even be close to Japan’s.
On the opposite side of the coin: everywhere else: a lot of people’s wish list items for the NSO apps like DQ1-6, Chrono Trigger, FF1-6, FF9 and a few others are available on mobile platforms. I own all of the above mentioned through apples App Store and play them regularly. Square Enix doesn’t want to cannibalize it’s own sales in those markets.
Also, people fail to realize that DQ is arguably the biggest gaming IP in Japan. Like, it’s a cultural phenomenon over there in every since of the word. Japan considers the series its mascot when it comes to gaming. The fan base outside of Japan isn’t even comparable.
It’s the only game series in Japan and I think actually the world to be released on Saturdays due to an issue that had happened around DQIII or IV where over 400 children were caught skipping school to get a copy of the game on release day.
All this said
Hell DQ is so huge there a law preventing the DQ games from releasing on the Work/School day.
They have to wait legally for a weekend or holiday to release.
That’s actually an urban myth. No law was ever introduced as such. But the children getting caught/reprimanded for skipping school had an pretty big effect on sales for a while and gave the IP and in turn the company some bad press in the news. So Enix to decide to release the games on Saturday to avoid it from getting worse or happening again.
So I’m a bit confused - which Shantae Genie game is the newest one? And is it better than the older one?
Data miners are finding splatoon themed lines of code in the newest fortnite hot fix that came out.
Half Genie Hero is the newest one. It’s a toss up between that one and Pirates Curse being the best.
If you have the Risky Expansion then you can play Half Genie Hero with the Pirates Curse moveset.
Is there any reason to get them in order? Thinking of picking up Half Genie since it’s $13 on the MXN store and I need a new game by next week, although I might just play SNES games.
Is it just an adventure side scroller somewhat metroidvania game? I’m concerned it’s a bit too anime for my liking, just from the videos I’ve seen, but maybe I’m wrong in that aspect. Not an anime fan at all.
I mean depends on what you mean by Anime. WayForward is an american company so by deffinition it’s not “Anime.” So you gotta give me more then that.
Otherwise there’s some continuity between the games. Each sequel happens because of the previous but the stories are light hearted and thin, more an excuse to make jokes and justify the next level so you could honestly play them in any order you want.
Does it have a lot of anime type music and that animation style throughout? I dunno, hard to explain but I get super turned off by anime generally speaking. I hate DBZ and anything like it, even art style wise. The videos I’ve seen are just trailers for the most part and it has that anime’ish music. Maybe it’s just jpop or something though.
What an odd thing to get upset over.
Yea I dunno dude. It’s got an anime inspired flair to its portrait art but I wouldn’t call it’s stage art anime at all. Same with its sprites and stuff. I don’t even know where to begin with Anime music. Anime has tons of musical genres in it. Cowboy Bebop uses Jazz, Outlaw Star has Rock, FLCL has a prog rock OST and some Anime uses pop music. So I don’t k ow what to say to that. Shantae has a very upbeat pop kind of sound but the whole series is very upbeat, whimsical and popish. Half Genie Heroes only vocal track is sung by an American.
I think on this front I can’t help you because I don’t rally get what you mean by Anime, seems a bit of a catch all term to you. Watch a play through of some early stages and decide from there I guess.
Shantae is a light hearted olatformer that sometimes uses an open world concept and other times just has big stages to explore. It’s writing is light hearted and humorous, and the over all tone of the entire series is one that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s main badguy likes to make booty puns about her butt because she’s a sexy pirate.
I think all of them are pretty awesome and worth the time for anyone who likes exploration platformers.
Why are you on a Forum about video games?
This forums specifically being about fighting games where the vast majority is from japan, and most Japanese games takes the visual and audio style from Japan.
This dumbfuck thinks fighting games == anime.
I shouldn’t be surprised.
I’ll check out some level videos and decide if I wanna grab it. I mean it’s $13 anyways.
This dumb fuck thinks a US Production is anime.
I mean…fighting games are hella Anime. Ryu and Guile are based directly on two anime characters Johnathan Joestar and Stroheim. Rose is based on Lisa Lisa. They throw Ki Waves and shit. Pretty anime.
This is why i said I don’t know how to answer the question because Anime can mean a shit load of different things to different people.
Hell name me one fighting game that didn’t derive from or inspired by the styling of anime.
The only one fighting game that has almost no anime inspiration is maybe Primal Rage, and that has a strong Kaju vibe to it.
If I actually fucking cared I am sure I could think of one but dont really care enough. I guess Virtua Fighter. Thats more inspired by real life and movies then Anime I guess. Mortal Kombat to is inspired by Hong Kong martial arts flicks.
But it’s all kind of beside the point, I’m more interested in helping him figure out if he wants the games or not.
The way purbeast been in the past, I could go either way.
I would tell him to download any demos if available
Really glad I didn’t preorder the physical version of the new gunvolt. Physical version is $35. Digital is $15.
I have no real preference when it comes to digital/physical video games. I’ll go with whichever format gives me the best deal. So this is an Easy choice.
