Folk always seem to gloss over that Japan and several other countries are just as if not more censorship prone concerning violent games. Blood gets the color changed, people are from soldiers of particular factions to something else and all sorts of nonsense. Let us not act like because standards regarding sexual content are treated differently in some regions that censorship is exclusively a Western deal.

What’s bizarre is each form of media having their own regulations. TV shows and movies have no problem with sex in the US.
Not really true. Untraditional relationships are still pretty taboo in the US. Showing gay relationships and whatever is fine but rarely are actual acts of sex involving them are shown. Sometimes you don’t even see kissing between LGBTQ+ couples in tv and movies.
I remember during Sons of Anarchy’s run they came under a lot of fire when a character was shown having sex with a trans person.
Yet earlier in that series no one batted an eye about when a main character was beaten and gang raped by the aryan nation. So. 
Same thing happened during The Shields run when a man made another man give him a blowjob by gun point. Yet had no issues of hookers being raped, beaten and murdered.

It’s not on traditional TV though is it? If it’s on a “premium” channel or streaming service they can get away with a lot more.
Also, one show doesn’t exactly disprove my point. Disney Stars have gotten death threats for even mentioning or showing there were LGBTQ+ people in their shows.
Thankfully Disney told them all to go fuck themselves and kept pushing lgbtq+ equality in their live action shows.
They won’t do it in their animations though.
