The Nintendo DS thread v.2

  • ^ the main reason why the Luminous Arc series, itself, is a turn off with me. Especially with some of the fighting. “Catch me and avoid my super spells” isn’t a real battle condition. Better to make this an optional quest than something manditory. If not, better to tell me to go play with Ru Paul’s balls. The game’s lack of masculinity wreaks the entire package, even though Luminous Arc does boast the title for first SRPG that can be played online with the DS. Played as in FIGHT</mortal kombat, king of fighters, street fighter>. The game beat out Square Enix’s lack of support for this genre. Hard for me to say anything nice about Luminous Arc other than “You’re a brave man. A very, very brave man.”.

  • Suikoden Teirkreis just leveled up most of my characters in one mission. Still, I love ST. Mission/Quest choosing is annoying. Moana talks way too much.

  • FaceMe: It’s worst, that Chinatown Wars game is. In fact…

…IT’S SADDAM GOOD. There’s so much to do!. It’s not a Shenmue deal so you have plenty of time to do it in! I love to roll up in a firetruck and pick of people after I hose them down. Piss On Me, GTA Edition!

  • I’ll be holding out on the new DS for a bit. Club Nintendo, too.

The other day I tried playing it on my subway ride to school. I used an Engage and one of the girly bride pictures came up. I felt like I lost a few man points on the spot and had to close the DS and vow to never play LA2 in public again.

It’s pretty god damn good.

Is there any reason why I should pick up Rhythm Heaven, besides the localization? I already have Rhythm Tengoku (jp) and its pretty easy to understand.

Can someone give me a quick cliffs notes on the DSi? Whats the difference between it and the regular DS?

DSi:
-$169.99
-0.25 inch screen size increase
-SD card support
-No GBA slot
-DSi Ware shop
-2 cameras
-AAC music player

DS Lite:
-$129.99
-Longer battery life
-GBA slot

Updated.

Nice. You have a webcomic?

You have the DS version (Rhythm Tengoku Gold)? I don’t think there’s much reason to then. I believe there is no added extras other than the localization (they did change a few songs to match the localization).

Thanks. My friends and I started a webcomic site about a year and a half ago. We’ve got a fairly big archive to view. The link is in my signature.

I primarily picked up the DSi because of the wear and tear my DS Lite went through. I’ve learned though this time, I’ll be ordering up some screen protectors and a soft carrying case to keep it safe. Nothing in the DSiWare store caught my attention, so I’ll keep a look out for something to spend my points on later.

So… Gentleman Mode on Henry Hatsworth is insanely hard. You take double damage, the puzzle fills faster, and the puzzle meter drains faster while manipulating the puzzle.

I’m on chapter5 of ninja gaiden but so far it’s easily the best handheld game I’ve ever played, actually it might be one of the best games I’ve ever played.

Best combat system of any game (stylus sword scribbling never gets old), plenty of simple puzzles and top it all off with nice visuals and giant boss fights…yeah it’s basically the perfect 3d action game:rock:

the GTA game is good but I found it to be really easy and short. I didn’t have any of those “WTF WHY IS THIS SO HARD” moments like I did with GTA 4, but I guess I’m expecting too much from the DS version.

anyone pick up the valkyrie profile game? I can’t seem to find it locally

also im excited for this http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/home/944570.html

im still stuck on the final boss, i always die at the wall part, where you have to climb the wall and hit the little red button, got any tips?

Yeah, I have Rhythm Tengoku Gold, imported by a friend and lent out to me like 3 months ago. But yeah, thanks for the heads up. I would’ve picked it up for myself, but maybe sometime later. I’ve got a long ds list to go through.

Also, Henry Hatsworth sounds interesting, I was wondering if you guys consider it a must buy, as all I’ve read so far was good things.

It’s going for 199.99 in Canada… arg.

I’m reluctant to say anything is “must buy” as everyone has different opinions. But IMO it is an excellent, unique, and fun game with a good sense of humor. But to warn you, it is also one of the hardest games I’ve played in quite a while too. Most of the boss fights are no joke, and the later levels are very challenging.

That’s the hardest part of the boss fight for sure. Try to save any X powerups that appear in the puzzle just for that part. To help cover ground faster, keep in mind that you can dash-jump just like a Megaman X game. Hop up the same wall that the button is on as soon as you see it, don’t be leaping across from the opposite wall to strike at it. Also make sure you’ve bought Melee Mastery 3 from the shop before this fight. It’ll take 4 jumping hits on the button to destroy the walls (assuming you have Melee Mastery 3). Only 2 if you also activate one of those X powerups too.

It was good but it wasn’t THAT good. 7-8/10 for sure. If you loved the combat there, you’ll love combat in TWEWY. Also, have fun on the last boss of Ninja Gaiden DS… If that’s even possible.

A friend of mine let me borrow both games over last weekend. I didn’t get to far in either one, but from my initial impressions, Hatsworth is a must buy and Valkyrie Profile can be avoided.

Hatsworth was awesome old-school platforming with my favorite puzzle game ever, Panel de Pon, thrown in for flavor. I was told it gets really difficult later on so the challenge should be there for ya.

Valkyrie Profile on the other hand just didn’t seem to work for me. I love strategy games having put in hundreds of hours into Final Fantasy Tactics, Advance Wars, and Fire Emblem, but VP just doesn’t feel right. Honestly, it feels like a PS2 game that got shoehorned into the DS. There is something about the controls and the amount of information that just isn’t up to snuff. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but I’d rent/borrow it first.

  • lol so that’s what the trial of pink fire is like! Luminous Arc just wasn’t meant for wussy men like us. Macho bastards need to get this one. Like I said, I really couldn’t play that title ANYWHERE. That Engagement system also looks weird. What’s that like, exactly?

  • is there a gameplay-related reason for getting all 108 Stars in Tierkries or is it just a clear bonus thing? I’m enjoying it still. Still hard to eject out of my system.

  • That Black Sigil game must suck because Graffiti keep pushing back the release date. Some angry Nintendo sale rep mob must’ve spooked them this time. Perhaps Black Sigil could be close to Soma Bringer calibur because of the tweaks. It’s been getting alot of press, this game has. Doesn’t appeal to me all that much: I saw the video, of BS, and yelled “swiper, no swiping” on Square’s behalf.

  • Too many comparisons to *Phantom Hourglass *is what hurts Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword. And the fact that NG’s the shorter one between them. To me, both games are good in their respective target markets, but I’m biased as hell on ninjas </stares at his TGS Mai Shiranui cosplay photos on his cell phone>. Gaiden does a lot of cool things with the system’s options gameplay wise. Whistling to catch a bird. How cool is that?
