The Nina Williams Thread

Zangief is someone slow enough to give you space to charge up a counter hit. Once your counter hit is charged up, he can’t attack safely from air without taking big dmg, even if your anti air trades. Also, he can’t safely throw out low pokes or any pokes really because your ivory cutter will now ground bounce on any hit. If he’s just moving backwards, you can attack from a distance with a cr. lk buffered to st hk into launcher if it hits. If he blocks, you’ll be far away enough not to get punished. If he’s standing you could also try out her ex skullsplitter since it’s a low that groundbounces on hit. Punish his lariats if he’s not right on top of you. Unlike in SF4, they have bad hurtboxes so you can do mk, hk, launcher from just outside and not have to worry about it trading. His pokes are actually really good so it’s still a hard fight, but this is one strategy you can use to put the odds more in your favor. (This is pretty much a universal tactic that works great against any foe).

What is the overhead everyone is talking about in this thread? Is it her h.skullsplitter or does she have a normal that is an overhead that I don’t know about?
Also what gems have you guys been running? I have two load outs, one is basically vitality and fortitude gems, while another is just pure meter building depending on the match up.

ivory cutter. looks like a forward flip type thing. the input is LP and MK at the same time.

skull splitter hits low.

I dont really use gems bec i play competitively in my country, but for casual meter building gems all the way…

Nina’s Backhand Slap (HCF+K, PP) leaves Nina at +6 on hit. This is stated in the guide and shown here that she is at advantage after landing only the first part of the combo throw.

This would mean that cr.MP (6f startup) would be a natural follow-up to it to combo further. Capcom know that if this was the case then it would lead to an infinite combo as the Slap causes a restand and resets Nina’s juggle count. To stop this, the game gives the opponent invul frames for these frames so that any follow up will whiff if timed as soon as Nina recovers from the Slap. The duration for this invul is approximately 11 frames. This is proven by a delayed follow up cr.LK (5f startup, 5f active) hitting with it’s later active frames.

The invul frames can always be cancelled by moving, or performing a move. This can be done at any point during these invul frames.

The part which makes this unique is that the opponent can never perform what the game classes as a ‘Reversal’ after recovering from the Slap. Even when performed on the first frame possible, the game never gives a ‘Reversal’ message. This is further proven by gems that activate on Reversal only never activating even when performed properly. This is because the game thinks they are at neutral and not recovering from hit/blockstun.

This is actually in AE2012 still with some characters having more invul after wakeup if the stick is left in neutral, and then any special performed during these invul frames not counting as a Reversal.

The practical application of this is because the game doesn’t class any special after recovering from the Slap a Reversal, the game does not give any frame leniency in hitting the special on it’s first possible recovery frame. This makes Reversalling in this position much more difficult for the opponent as it has to be frame perfect.

There is a trick to it in that you can perform the motion, go to neutral then plink the buttons to make sure you come out of the invul performing the special instantly.

In a match, this makes Nina’s Backhand Slap an extremely safe way of resetting and applying a mix-up post Slap.

The two combos at the end show two BnBs; one started by Nina, and one by her partner which all lead back into the same mix-up.

There is a trick to it in that you can perform the motion, go to neutral then plink the buttons to make sure you come out of the invul performing the special instantly.

This, explain this a little further for me, after u do her slap plink the move afterwards (meaning the target combo u did)

As the character coming out of hitstun, perform your reversal motion (for example, f.d,df for Ryu), put the stick in neutral, then hit the button/s. Uses the invul frames afforded to the character to come out of the invul performing their reversal on the next frame after the invul ends.

When you anti air with Cr. H, if you cancel it into rolling dash to create a 50/50 when they recover, you can either use mp to stay in front or hp to go to the other side, it’s pretty tricky.

Just to be sure, can you combo after raw Ivory Cutter? (if its not a counter hit)

There’s a section here called frame data, try looking at it. It says +2 on hit after ivory cutter. Nina has zero moves that come out in 2 frames. Therefore no.

Damm, i totally forgot to look at the frame data, thanks though.

Sorry if this has already been asked. What is Nina’s best Anti Air?

Crouching Heavy punch, and i’d saying standing roundhouse is pretty good too.

I play this game once a week don’t like it too much but Damn I can’t get out of jab pression with nina I might drop her

I’m having a problem with a quick combo coming out instead of my combo. The combo looks like this: :df: HP - L.Geyser Cannon - :df: HP etc… When I input the command for the second down-forward HP, Nina goes into a quick combo? I thought you could only go into those using L3 or R3 but apparently not. Anyone having the same problem?

Quick combo is activated by :lp: + :hk: or :lk: + :hp:
When you’re doing the :lk: geyser, do you hold the button?

No I’m not holding it but now I know what I am doing wrong. I must be hitting the second :hp: to quickly after the first :lk: and its registering it as :lk:+:hp:.

I didn’t know you could hit the quick combos using something other then L3 and R3. Thanks for the info man.

Guys I have a problem with her command grab. While I can do the EX version just fine when I try to do the normal one I always get interrupted by a punch in the limps… Any tips please? I need to master it because it is a nice surprise move.

It’s not very intuitive, but the trick is to hit the buttons *after *Nina lands the slap. So, she dashes, grabs, slaps, hit buttons, slaps again, hit buttons.

How do u guys deal with Dhalsim, i can not think of anything against him…
