Ward blew up the Hurricanes with a hatrick. Joel Ward was a crazy good off-season signing. You guys wanna talk racism… tell me how the hell he went undrafted.
Crosby and Kessel got split up. I wonder if Sid got fed up with Kessel never learning how to backcheck.
Kessel: “I can score almost as much as you can, kid!”
Sid: “Yeah, but when you miss the net by 5 feet on simple wrist shot from 15 feet away, how about skating back to our end when they take the puck back there, instead of just skating with your head down, full of regret, wondering how a superstar like you is on his third team now, not gelling like the other two.”

I think it was more that the team was put together to score a bunch of goals and through 7 they are averaging 1.6 goals a game and wanted to change some shit up.
Yeah, that one was straight bullshit. The original call was goal that got waved off so to say it was deferred to the field is BS, it was just favouritism.
but yeah, a lot of people fail to realize that about hockey. When two dudes are skating at like 20mph, and some guys are like a foot taller than others, it’s a little hard to do basic plays and not get a penalty. Elbowing, charging, hitting from behind (on occasion), they’re all penalties that can be hard to avoid at times.
One of the reasons Gretzky was so great was because he realized how hard it was for people to stop or a dime or quickly change direction so he’d pull up basically and people would miss checks due to momentum. That same momentum does lead to a bunch of penalties though, you’re right.
Gretzky changed how hockey is played. Used to be WAY rougher and dirtier. Gretzky would let you try to fuck with him, and just let you take a penalty, then he went and scored. Power Play was so random until he came along and started to dominate.
But my favourite story is when there was a bench clearing brawl, and everybody squares up, and Gretzky grabs a dude, who proceeds to toss him to the ice and get one top of him. Gretzky goes to fight him off, and the dude goes “I know you’re the great one, but if you fight back I gotta actually start fighting.” And The Great One knew his role, and stopped being fussy.
Ducks Just cant catch a break. I had them winning it this year. There are players right now who have almost as many goals as the entire Ducks team. I Mean seriously, they had a 3 goal lead tonight.
We are forever awful because we never have any veterans on the team that can teach young guys.
When we had some soul players, we traded them for scraps or let them walk.
1st overalls aren’t supposed to be put into a 1st line with each other and expect to win.
We have no teachers. We had no Lidstroms, Dastyuks, Thorntons, Marleaus to teach young guys. Show them the ropes if you will.
Our incompetent management in the last decade thought you could pick up a veteran from FA and he could teach them. But alas, they were wrong and those guys were just looking for a quick payday.
Basically its like going to war for and being told “Oh here are some other 18 year olds you will be fighting with. We don’t really have anyone here that will show you whats wrong and right… Just these mercenaries that care about money. Oh well, enjoy!”
Ebs, Hall, RNH, Schultz, are the veterans of the team.
Basically, treat the Oilers like an expansion franchise.
