The Next Fist of the North Star/Hokuto no Ken thread

Wow, nice, Pharaon. Your road to Japan will be a great read:smiley:

i wanna go
i was originally planing on heading over to japan next summer, but if i don’t have finals during this time then i will try my best to go with Tian and you guys.

So who will be heading to Evo World? The side tourney only has 4 enterants so far, Hydra632, Mr Mamation, Mizuki and Abhi. It will be a $10 dollar entry fee, 70/20/10 split for 1s, 2nd and 3rd, as well the Raoh and Kokuoh Go 200x for 1st, and other prizes yet to be decided for 2nd and 3rd(probably a Shin bust for 2nd and a 200x figure for 3rd). It’ll probably be run on ps2 so everybody can use their own sticks, unless everyone is comfortable with th e Atomiswave setup I’m bringing. I’ll also have some random drawings for other HnK stuff I’ve got laying around(posters, mini figures, a raoh tshirt, maybe an art cel or 2 from the original tv series).

I’m down for it.

Alright good, shit. I’ll add it to the FotnS thread in the Evo section. Anyone have a good tournament bracket sheet? We’ll probably do 3 rounds, 2 out 3 of matches, double elim if everyone is cool with that.

sounds good to me

New thread for sign ups in the Evo world forum.

cool
lately i haven’t been playing the game much due to lack of comp and the fact that aside from me, dan, nestor, and tian EVERYONE who plays that game only learns their characters 50% combos and thinks that thats enough. So if you really are coming Pharaon then i will be practicing hard once again. THATS RIGHT IM COMING FOR YOU!!!
Do you see the death bringer of fate over your star?
I will be going back to those times where i practiced 10 to 17 hours a day starting right now just to win this event. If i do will put school aside and join you guys this November, otherwise it will depend on my grades.

Sigh… I was suppose to go to W2Z last saturday, but got stucked under 6 papers, lol. Well the good news is I managed to finish all of them in one weekend. The bad news is I just missed another chance to play Mr.Mamation since you didn’t inform me you are coming:(

If Mr.Mamation is hyped for MF2, well, me too! Let’s team up to represent USA for this 2 on 2 tourney. Remember to study what works the best vs Toki, Raoh, Souther, and Rei though. These characters are most popular in tourney scene these days. I will rely on you to carry me to the finals, lol.

sorry about that, it was kinda last minute
we didn’t really get to play that much either since i got in late

Sign me up hydra

Gotcha, what about your friend?

Yeah could you add him too (Daniel).

Thanks

Do you mean that Mr. Mamation? Practise 10 to 17 hours a day??? Well now i know why people are satisfied with 50% combo’s in general. I’m currently playing with Raoh and i still have no real grasp of boost behind then TK airspike, or IAD then boost + lk then airspike in some of the combo’s. Its to much time consuming. And if its true you have to practise A LOT OF HOURS a day, then the next question emerge… Over how long a period do you have to practise like crazy to be real good? Months and months or a year, hours after hours and that every day? If you or someone else can answer this question…thanx

Depends… You need to practice combos with Raoh. That’s his character’s main strength. Base on what you said, I think you’d better switch to other character because Raoh is a difficult to learn. You need both steady combos and a lot of match up experinece to be good.

Well Raoh is my main character i put a lot of effort and time to play at a moderate level. And switching to a nother character means a lot of practise and time wich i dont want, its been months now. And now i know Raoh wasnt the best choice. But i didnt knew that back then that he is 1 of the difficult characters to master. But i wont quit every spare time i got i will practise, until i master the boost behind opp then TK airspike. Much credit for those who can play INSANE with raoh! Any ways thanx for the reply tianyuan.

Tian is right : although Raoh is powerful, you need to have decent execution + a solid knowledge of your character + a good general experience of the game (basically, you should know who does what and how you can counter it). It took more than a year for me to reach a decent level, and I’m still discovering stuff and preparing home-made stuff those japanese guys never use.

Talking about Reversed Sai, it’s a piece of cake once you understand how it works. The method has been posted several pages before in that thread.

i played Rei so all i did was practice combos all day. Literally when it came out i played it non-stop with out sleep for the first two days. I am dead serious too. I believe Tian, GBlood, and Pharaon have been playing it since the arcade came out so i felt like i was too far behind and still do. That was my motivation.
Really, just play who you want to play. If you don’t have the time then just practice when you have the chance. If you can at least get those 75% combos somewhat consistently then you will be better than 90% of the players in the us.

Heh, I haven’t play HNK a lot lately, last time in EVO East I was mad rusty, and then summer school came. But now it’s done! No more school madness. I am going to find a crappy job in Chinatown so I can both earn money for my trip to Japan and practice in the arcade near by on daily basis:) Mr.Mamation, you’d better train very hard now, lol!

soundwave23, you have to learn how to recover from combo miss with Raoh. And how to break opp’s defense as well. For example, good player turns miss timed 2A after spike in to a great opportunity to crush opp’s defense while others give up at that point… HnK is not just a game you can win with learning 2 combos. There are plenty windows to sneak in jabs, kicks, backdash, throws, etc. Discover the ā€œhiddenā€ options are pretty fun too.

Sometimes I wish I hadn’t put so much time into this game, nobody wants to play it anymore in this area (N.C.). When it first came out people were on it but once Me, and and like 2 other guys from this area started learning the somewhat broken aspects of the game (Toki’s corner throw wall bounce 80-100% combo’s, Raoh’s 80-100% sai loop combo’s, Rei’s high damage wall bounce shit) it more or less turned people off of the game. The only 2 people in this area that will even touch the game act as if they don’t even want to play anymore, so now there’s nobody to play. I wish like hell I could take that trip to Japan with you guys but, since I’ve never really played anyone outside of the people I beat up on around here I wonder were my game would stack up?
