The Newbie's guide to Q

Only if u hit a opponent which is in the air. If hes grounded, its a great chance to start a combo.

i know about that combo. but the guy in the vid did the regular rush punch twice, then the DDC , like i side, its in the corner.

While I’m thinking about it…

Q’s UOH combos into SAII when it hits on the way down. This could be useful because I would figure most people don’t expect an overhead out of Q, I could be wrong though. I also discovered that the recovery on the C&DB is slighty longer with the stronger versions when whiffed.

ilikebeingalive: C&DB stands for Capture & Deadly Blow, which is Q’s command throw (hcb+K). It is a vital part to Q’s game if you plan on using him.

just wondering…if you do Q’s back roundhouse (stupid but funny looking sweep) on a standing opponent who’s blocking will you still be able to trip them? lame question but i dont know when i’ll get a chance to play 3S again to test it out. I figured back roundhouse cancelled into a over head rush punch or ex low rush punch (depending on the way opponent is blocking)could be a useful tactic

Q vs ?

Okay what kind of tactics can Q use against his tougher challenges…namely everyone? Any specific tactics you guys use against certain characters? Post up!

hmm, another question

damn, now i gotta read this entire thread again since i know what everyone is talking about

how does Q beat dudley? My friend’s best character is Dudley (best in the ATL south) i hear, and I have a hard time beating him. When I miss one parry, i eat that dumb 5 hit Dudley combo. Anyone know any way to beat a Dudley with Q? Thanks in advance.

My main friend that I play with uses Dudley, but he isn’t first in the Atlantic South…

After almost every blocked special move of Dudley’s, Q can can land the C&DB. Three taunts, as against anyone, helps greatly. If you use SAII; be careful not to throw it out too early after a C&DB against Dudley, otherwise the second SAII hit will whiff. Q’s Rush Punch is best friends with Dudley’s Cross-Counter.

Thats all I can really give…he isn’t that good of a Dudley.

Q is the worst player in 3S especially if you play against SilverGear cause all he does his perry and grab and an occasional random super. And everyone who uses Q is a queer especially SHOCKY.

Lol…random supers. That’s funny cause that’s what stuck in my mind when i saw the Ricky vs. Silvergear vids. They weren’t completely random. He thought Ricky was going to try and stick out something, but it was funny as hell watching that shit fail after the 1st fluke super connected.

LOL that is funny as hell.:lol:

True. The random supers did fail me (Hell they were so random even I didn’t know when I was going to do them) , but you have to keep in mind I was nervous and wasn’t exactly thinking straight(After all playing Ricky O. with Q isn’t exactly the worlds easiest thing and you’ve got a million things running through your head.). Thus explaining the random supers and the missing red parries when Ricky tried to chip me to death.

But hey no-ones perfect right? We all make mistakes

Now I gotta ask you something…

Who are you? No need to hide behind a different screen name. Just come on out and say who you are, cause I’d love to know the true name/screen name of those who post constructive criticism.

Care to share who you really are?

Troyboy:

STFU you’re just upset because I read you like an open book meant for 1st graders. :lol:

i’m geese aka uber_soldat. i got banned a while ago and i didn’t really care about srk enuf to register again, but then this stupid cvs2 traps thread was too retarded not to respond, so i did. anyway, u happy now? did it really matter? lol…who did u think i was? one of ur boyz raggin on u behind an srk screen name? nah man, i don’t hide cause i don’t give a shit…peace.

THIS IS SilverGear At Troyboys’ HOUSE.

Ah alright! Long time no see.

And you were right I thought it was someone I knew just trying to give me a hard time , either way it’s all good. :lol:

Thanks for being honest man I appreciate it.

Anyways,
Those were some good guesses you made when it comes to me vs. Ricky O. only thing you had wrong was that I kept on hearing the phrase “He’s gonna sweep!” being repeated in the back of my head , that’s why I was pulling off those retarded random supers.

As you can clearly see I still have ALOT to learn. :sweat:

Take it easy.

Later.

Here is an advanced mind game with Q (and by advanced, I mean your opponent should be advanced):

Knock your opponent down, do the HCB motion to signal that you are going to do the command throw. This can lead to some really nasty things. Most obvious thing is baiting out supers and uppercuts. The beauty of doing this is that his command throw takes forever to come out, so when the opponent sees you doing this, he will assume this is what you’re going for. The risk involved is minimal. The reward is great.

EDIT: I’ve never actually done this shit. It’s something that popped in my head after having a midnight meal.

That ish doesn’t work as much as you’d think it would. Oddly enough, Cameron (from Omaha, NE) didn’t fall for it, but I landed it on Riri’s Yang on the first try. Heh…and then she absolutely stomped on me. Oh well. Tick-C&DB works wonders, but resets off of the throw don’t work nearly as well as I’d like. Figures.

Well, here’s the thing. If they don’t “fall” for it, in the sense that they don’t think you’re going to do the command throw, then just kara-throw them. If they do think you’re going to do it, they may jump or super. If you anticipate a jump, s. jab will reset them, dash and SAII as they land (does this even work? :o). If you anticipate an uppercut or super, do nothing OR kara-throw. The reason I said kara-throw is because characters like Ken have throw-able supers (SAIII) at startup so throwing is only a risk against SRK’s, and those lead to no extra damage unless you’re opponent can kara-cancel SRK’s, which is sure as hell can’t do.

Anyway, my point was, Q’s command throw can be signaled just by doing the motion so that your opponent understands what you’re gonna do (or so they think). You can do so many things off this. Here is my list of things I would do depending on their reaction:

If they…

A) don’t do anything
-----> command throw (risky)
-----> kara-throw (most common)
-----> UOH, SAI (risky since you may not land the super)

B) jump back (they probably won’t jump towards)
-----> j. fierce (reset?)
-----> s. jab (reset?)
-----> rush punch as they land (this works beautifully)
-----> rush punch xx SAII (this works even better, does it work?)

C) retaliate
-----> block and punish (safest)
-----> throw (safe against some supers like Ken’s SAIII)
-----> option select throw? (is this the thing where you press > + jab+short to parry and/or throw?) (note: this is risky against multiple hit specials/supers that you can’t throw such as Ken’s fierce SRK, etc.)

EDIT: I just tried reseting them with a jab as they jump, then doing SAII. It works. The timing is sorta strict, but it’s cool as hell.

I would suggest using SA I instead; it gives more meter for Q’s potent EX combos (like C&DB, EX Dashing Straight); plus, although it’s more difficult to combo into (i.e., off of a jump-in), you do have those precious invincibility frames that allow you to blitz through attacks (and projectiles), catching your opponent off guard. Want a good wake-up game? Watch as they falter no matter WHAT they do (provided it isn’t a Gigas, that is).

SAI doesn’t have invinc. frames. You can throw him out of the super. Super’s like Dudley’s SAI, Ken’s SAI/SAII, and Ryu’s SAII have invinc. frames because they go through anything during their starting frames (including throw attempts).

Q’s super #1 is invincible for the first 6 frames. Dudley’s #1 is invincible for 4 frames. Etc.

So then why have I have been thrown out of it while I have never seen anyone thrown out of a Shinryuken, ShinShoryuken, etc? Btw, I thought Hugo’s SAIII had invincibility frames too until a few weeks ago when my friend threw me out of that too.
