So the new tournament packs areā¦interesting. It says highly played cards for the meta but white stone of legend is in this.
Right now white stone, droll & lock bird, and vanityās fiend have been announced.
Wellā¦I donāt predict the prices of Sorc going down anymore than they already haveā¦ when the performages get banned and we move on towards Pepe Slayer, having 3 pen sorc still be a major thing? Or am I fine with just the 1?
3 is a major thing still unless Wavering Eyes gets banned. Itās just as much for consistency as it is to clear your scales against Wavering Eyes ala the Nekroz Mirror where you cleared your board to avoid getting Trishād.
EDIT: And random news on the eve of the Monarch Structure, apparently people had been starting (or considering) to put 15 Token cards in their Extra Deck to feign having one as a Monarch player. Basically by doing this pretending for the first turn that theyāre playing something else (which obviously will affect your personally first turn and beyond). Wow people were getting grimy. So grimy that Julia herself had to poopoo that shit.
Welp, Monarchs are here. I hope none of yaāll expected to have any games last past Turn 2 (words Iād never thought Iād say in relation to Monarchs in any capacity).

There were about 30 ~ 35 people here. Being my first tournament I was nervous as hell.
Match 1 vs Kozmo
Game 1: I bricked on my opening hand, all I could manager to make was Raffelesia and set 1 strike. He Raigekiās on his turn, I died.
Game 2: I open up with a pretty good field, making Trapeze and Pleiades on my turn with a bottomless set. He top decks a raigeki, summons farm girl. Attacks with Farm Girl, activate E-tele from his hand and attacks with Goodwitch, banishes both to drop Dark Eclipser and Destroyer, I died.
I pretty pissed off at that point, and I didnāt even get the iron walls before the tournament began so I was in deep shit. I knew that starting off x-1 was bad, and getting 2-0ād so easily was not a good sign either.
Match 2 vs Monarchs
Game 1: I opened with Luster, Jigabyte, Plusfire, Damage Juggler, and Joker. I go off and make Rafflesia + Pleiades and pass for turn. He draws his card and scoops. (Apparently he didnāt shuffle his deck well enough he says)
Game 2: Knowing that I have no mask of restricts this would be hard to side against, so I go and add in Partnaga, Turn Toad, 2 twisters, removing a lizardraw, instant fusion, and 2 wavering eyes. I forgot what else I opened, but I had 1 veiler in my hand. I make Pleiades and set Strike. He draws again and normal summons Idea, I veiler it. He scoops
Match 3 vs Monarchs
Game 1: I won the die roll and I go first. I open Veiler, Joker, 2 Luster, and Monkeyboard. I normal summon joker and pray that I donāt get Veilerād. He has no veiler, I proceed to grab Guitartale. Set scales with Keyboard and Turtle, then I draw into my Warning. Use Keyboard to grab pen sorc. I pen summon and go ham. I pass turn with a set warning. he normal summons Idea I warning, he scoops.
Game 2: He opts to go first. He normal summons idea and veiler it. On my turn I had partnaga in scale and I dropped Joker to fetch sorc. next turn he sets a facedown card. I normal summon pen sorc and using partnaga effect make Joker real big. I keep smacking him with a big joker for game.
Match 4 vs ???
My opponent left so I got a free game win. I felt a bit shitty, but being 3 and 1 put me right outside of Top 8. One more win and make it in.
Match 5 vs Burning Abyss
I donāt really remember much of this match because it was later in the evening and most people were running in and out the store from the Parades. All I know is that I made dweller turn 1 with no back row only to get raigekiād and having him make a Dante. I lost both games due to F0 and him having 3 Dantes.
With that I was 3 and 2 for my first tournament. A bit of luck was involved with a lot of my wins, but overall I think Iām better for it. I still have 0 idea what to side in vs Burning Abyss or even how to approach fighting BA. I was super free to the BA match up.

Well, Sorc can still be used, but with Joker being limited. Theres not much point anymore man. They just blew up the deck and didnāt care at all. At least in Japan they can still use Joker and Luster, but now the deck is pretty busted up.
And guess what happened? Dark Destroyer is now a 200$ card. Konami didnāt even look in Kozmoās general vicinity man. If theyāre going to play this game, I might as well go and play RaidRaptors and drop Ultimate Falcon on peopleās face.
Kozmos get wrecked by Monarchs so I donāt really care if they look in their direction or not.
My dude, I already have my Mega Caius, and I have my 3 Kuraz and 2 mega thestalos. Iām going to go ham on people. I need to get myself a damn fog king now.
They went way further than the Japanese did IMO. However, I do feel that Konami will scale it back and let luster back in. Because of Shining Victory. Gotta have them amorphages. And hitting Monkeyboard was likeā¦random as hell. Joker I can understand, but wow.
Pals are still dominating the OCG so maybe the TCG felt they had to jump the gun.
PePe is still legal for Atlanta though, to avoid an outright riot.
Well, time to get my Fog Kings, I think 1 or 2 should be enough. Or I can grab another Kuraz to make 2ā¦

I honestly donāt think theyāre BDIF even now.
I think this is the first time in a long time where a YCS doesnt matter. Last time no one really gave a shit about YCS was when Six Sams were fully powered and lasted for like 2 weeks.
After the new hits happen, itll be a tie between DracoPePe and Monarchs for tier 1. And thats assuming we dont get a ban list right after this YCS.
Why would they give us an adjusted banlist to use right after this YCSā¦and then change it within the same time period?
Next format prolly will start in April so I donāt see anything changing.
