Well I was wrong on Zoodiacs, they’ve already figured out how to still open their boards with this, though Ghost Ogre is now a LOT more effective against them.
Guess its Konami’s way of limiting special summons with the link mechanic. As far as Yugioh comments went that was the main thing I saw. “We HAVE to limit SS!”. Now that they that did with changing how the game is built. I have to wait to see more on the link monsters but as it stands now, its a neat idea to me.
Though with the changes its not going to hurt Pendulums to much past less backrow. Predicting Qlis making a comeback.
Also RIP Wind Witches with these changes…Or are they better now?
Dont know if having a monster on the Extra Monster Zone affects the effect of having “no monsters on the field” or if thats just going to be changed to only on your Main Monster Zone.
This is honestly the best way they could’ve done things, though how it actually will shake out remains to be seen.
Most people either wanted a reboot, or a complete elimination of Xyz from the game (along with Pendulums). The issue with that is, while you bring back old heads who get to say “This is how Yugioh is MEANT to be played”, you piss off current players, and you alienate newer players even moreso than usual.
Link Monsters probably won’t bring back the old heads, but honestly the old heads weren’t ever going to stay around anyway unless Konami brings out an official “Goat Format” for them to play in. But honestly, compared to the last mechanics I see a LOT more optimism and intrigue going into this mechanic. Plus it does something that Konami has wanted to make relevant for over a decade and has never managed to do. Make monster zone positioning (and S/T positioning to a lesser extent) actually matter. Now you actually have to think about not only what monster to put out but WHERE to put it.
As someone who hates Xyz (and pendulum monsters) to a degree, I was always fine with the concept, and even the implementation at first. When it got dumb is when they started designing them specifically in a way to circumvent the mechanics would be weaknesses and giving them absurd utility for little investment. Or in short power creep.
I have no doubt Konami will eventually break this too if they keep intentionally designing cards the way they have been lately.
Pendulums are what really broke the game and put it at a point of no return.
I still to this day refuse to use that mechanic… xyzs, synchro, fusion, ritual are all balanced mechanics…
JJ is always fun to watch play and yes the illegal play stuff needs to be fixed but I hate the logic if you on table 222 it is expected but the judges should be more aware of what is going on.
Senet Switch is going to need clarification from Konami since the card explicitly references Monster Card Zone but with the field change, there is no Monster Card Zone anymore. The field is now Main Monster Zone and Extra Monster Zone. Judge forum might have some insight on this, but it’s still early, I think.
The market is insane right now. High rarity goat cards are shooting up and everyone willing to buy into super early link cards. I’d rather just wait and get more clarifications on exact rulings for link summoning.
