The NEW VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 Thread *360 version out on 30th!*

My nigga Shun has got some of that new hotness. Thx to sekaijin from VFDC.

Just had the chance to play at bit of Shun in VF5R, here is what I have noticed:

Trickiness

If you thought Shun was already tricky, you should see the amount of variation he has now.

Here are some quick changes/new moves:

–After 6P+K (double handed punch that gives Shun 4DP), you can now do moves immediately after Shun drinks. The advantage to this is that you do not have the difficult guess you used to have it the opponent teched and ran at you, but you will only get 2 instead of 4 DP. So far, I have found a mid kick that falls down much like P+K, K, and a quick movement to the laying position (oushin).

–Oushin stance (laying down) has been upgraded in a MAJOR way. You can now do P to roll foward with a punch that hits mid and leaves you facing away from the opponent, P+K for a spin move that hits mid and moves Shun to the handstand stance, and 2K that looks much like the 2K from Shun’s stance that was added to VF5, which moves him to standing position after hit/guard.

–3PPK has also been changed, you can move directly to oushin by hitting 2 after the K. This should make for some dirty okizeme setups with people who tech after 8K+G, PPK combos, etc.

Drinking Game

The importance of drinks looks as though it will be even greater in VF5R. How’s this for starters: you cannot even use chouwan unless you have 6DP! I could not get the normal 3P+G throw to come out with 0 DP either, it seems you need at least 4 DP, though it could be lower (I normally tried to get neutral throw right away to raise DP so I could have access to chouwan).

However, there do seem to be more occasions to drink with moves.

New Moves/Changes

Lots to list and I do not know all the commands yet, but here is what I have:

–33P+G: a new throw where Shun begins the animation of the old 3P+G throw, but then stops before he flips over the opponent, takes a drink while he is on top of their back, and throws them down. You get 2DP, and the opponent falls face-first backwards, meaning if they tech you can do some dirty shit with sidekick (free stagger).

–_23P: lots changed here. On normal hit, you no longer knock down the opponent, and Shun even appears to be in slight disadvantage (-2 to -4). Luckily the opponent is pushed away, so you do not face too tough a guess. On minor counter, the opponent is knocked back violently, tumbling over him/herself in the same hit animation that has been added for Akira’s double palm, Kage’s 2K+G, etc. You cannot combo afterwards. On major counter only, you can get the normal combos from VF5.

–6P string: you no longer have the 6PPPK string. There is 6PP (which is now mid, mid, the first hit looking a lot like Shun’s 6P change move in VF4FT), and you can cancel the second P into a variety of moves by doing P+K+G. The P+K+G does the same drink motion of 6P+K+G, and you can hit P to do another elbow class move, or K to do a kick that evades attacks and animates like Shun’s normal evade attack.

–Could not get the full circular 64P to come out at all, regardless of drink count.

–The input for 43P has been changed to 43P+K. Still staggers on hit.

–236K, P P string. Animates just like Chouwan, but is a kick on the first hit. Hits M, H, M. Third hit knocks down on ANY hit. If you stop at the K and hold K, you can move Shun to choukarou (one-footed) stance. You need 6DP to do this move.

…that is about all I have for now, will add more updates once I play more or speak with some Shun players.

Gave him some new ish while still keeping him in check. I really wanna see some vids of this, haha.

VF5 R sounds hype as hell. Don’t think we’ll ever go back to VF3 style gameplay but the arenas are definitely more varied and interesting. Good change from the typical format. Aoi better be broke as hell in this one.

So, I’m new to VF, and I really want to learn how to play this game - Shuns my nigga, too.

The bad thing is, I don’t have any “new console” (ps3, 360), nor even a PS2!!!

But my always loyal Dreamcast is good for now, as Im playing VF3TB. Will this be any good? Does this game prepares me to the newer ones? Do you want to give me a Ps2?

NYC VF’ers meet at each other places mostly on the weekends. There was a tournament in Brooklyn last Sunday and there might be another local in the middle of the month.

We are having a major gathering/tournament on the first weekend of September in Long Island. People from all over the country are coming (CA, CO, FL, TX, VA). If you really like VF you should try to make it.

VFDC just posted a really nice interview with Fuudo a.k.a. FOOD, who apparently just won this year’s WCG. It stays pretty light but it’s neat and fun; it never gets very deep but they manage to ask him about everything under the sun.
