The New TN Thread: Kings of Kang

Abe: Ah well whoever is missing a copy just let me know. I can bring it to next fight night or if I host this weekend and you roll through you can pick it up then.

So my metal/game of thrones fans the amazing band Blind Guardian known for being bawse as fuck have two songs are their latest album about ASOIF

If you like this godlike shit check out all their albums all really good easily a top 10 band for me

Oh, I went to see them in Atlanta (I think) when they toured for this album’s release. Holy Grail opened for them, iirc. I got a t-shirt and everything.

I also got extremely drunk.

Im jealous as fuck just to hear The Bard’s Song live would be amazing

GGs Dax, Max… Sax and Kinax. Shut up Squabb. FT5 KoF. Leggo.

Jas they don’t want none of them extreme value combos.

Man that MODOK made top 8 and was using two really bad assists.idk if people lost due to lack of character knowledge or maybe he is that good. I guess it’s both.

All I know is my MODOK team is going to be dangerous. The synergy is too strong. Doromac when you come over to Milln’s on Monday help me dissect my team.

He was solid, and he stuck to basic and intermediate combos with MODOK. He used assists in combos too, so they were okay.

Well said.

GG’s @ fight night last night. And I got my FT5 with Justin. Victor and justin sucks. lol im just fucking with you. And epic set with dax. We need a show: Dax and Max Two best friends play fighting games. And make fun of Justin. haha

And VF5 is so fun. It’s good to finally play a VF game with people instead of being a quest mode warrior. I just gotta learn the system more. But Sev said the most disturbing thing ever when he saw i played Eileen. O: Why the hate? Cant handle a monkey Chick? lol

Yeh that there be mine. I just checked to see if i had it and it wasnt there O:

Edit: And i think you may have my Kang disc cuz it’s not in my case either

Hey guys, don’t forget the Marvel vs Capcom 3 Championship that’s this Friday at 6PM in Little Rock! All entrants get free pizza and drinks and first place will get $150, second place will get $75, and third place will get $50!

SergeStrife, check your PM’s.

Hunterk and I have been playing a lot of ST. I’d like to submit the idea that we have $1 ST side tourneys every now and then at our GG tourneys, and/or an ST setup at a Fight Night. It’s been a lot of fun.

WARNING: Playing SF2 again has given me ideas… so now I’m about to wax effusive on my idea of a perfect FG…

My perfect FG is drumroll SF2 crossed with SF4:

Health/length of rounds: SF4
blocked special punish windows: closer to SF4 (longer windows feel better to me, provides victims of cheese quicker means of figuring out how to punish)
throw *input: *SF4 (I like the discrete command)
throw mechanics: SF4 (I think whiff animations are a good idea)
throw ranges: SF2 (or dare I say, SFxT… shorter ranges feel better to me. The longer ranges in SF4 means that throw mixups during a block string work in just about every block string, that feels wrong)
special move execution: SF2 all the way. Once you master the command, it’s easier to do what you mean to do, and harder to spam. Wakeup SRKs actually take some timing. Much less brainless mashing.
special move “quality”: If you move towards SF2 in execution, then I think you could move towards SF2 in effectiveness. More invincibility, better hitboxes.
special vs normal damage ratio: SF2 (Note, I like SF4 health/round length, but I think in general normals should do a little more, relative to specials. Specials should be effective because of their properties, not just their damage. You should be equally rewarded for landing normals)
combos: somewhere in between (y’all know how I feel about long-ass-combos, but SF4 doesn’t feel as bad anymore compared to the direction the other FGs are going so I don’t wanna hate on it. Still, I’m always a fan of shorter combos. My ideal game would have 2 to 3 hit combos, at most. <Jump-in, short/med, special> or <short/med, special>
dizzies: SF4
randomization (or lack thereof): SF4
pacing, speed of individual moves: SF4 (the slowness doesn’t feel sluggish to me, it just makes it more chess-like)
blocking mechanics: SF2 (blocking feels less in general more “solid”. Can’t quite quantify this.)
novelty mechanics (focus attack, roman canceling, etc): SF2 (“But Cale, SF2 doesn’t have…” EXACTLY! FAs and FADCs are ridiculous and I dislike what they bring to the game. Dashing and quick get-up bother me less. I like quick get up solely for the fact that offers an opportunity for a simple mixup when my opponent is scripting his safe-jump timing. I like the mobility of dashing, but I don’t like what backdashing introduces into wakeup situations)
music/stages: hands down SF2
graphics: hmm… char design of SF2 with technology of SF4
Finally, my perfect game would have no online capabilities. Get yourselfs to a house or an arcade.

I think i will just stick to ST. but i do agree with you on FA and FADC Cale. also with the need for smaller reversal windows and more strict input. Lately I have been playing a lot of Alpha 2 and I really enjoy that game. I really like Alpha counter also because it does give you an out but again it costs you meter so you cant use it all the time like FA. It reminds me more of blowback on KOF.

@Zutsuki Riot
I totally agree. I would also ditch “comeback mechanics,” or at the very least make them such that they can never be a killing blow. I think a good alternative for ultras would be that they, at most, bring the opponent down to your health.

My biggest problem with “modern” fighting games is that modern is interpreted to mean “full of crazy mechanics and meters and combos and cinematics and shit.” I want responsive controls, predictable inputs/damage/stun/etc., footsies, spacing and mind-games. Everything else just gets in the way.

WeltallX for anyone who has played me online; pretty sure I’ve played Squabbler a lot. I play Ibuki.

Address: 520 Millwood Lane, Mount Juliet, TN 37122

7PM until whenever, we just can’t be screaming after 10:30 because my sister goes to sleep, but can play until whenever.

What I have:

1 Xbox
1 PS3 - Just got the red ring last week -.-;;
1 ASUS Monitor
1 Xbox copy of AE / UMVC3 / KOF13 (I’ll have to locate KOF, but I don’t have any Ps3 versions)
1 Xbox TE
1 PS3 TE / 1 Ps3 HRAP / 1 PS3 Custom Seimitsu
2 Samsung TV - one guaranteed has lag, and the other is brand new and I haven’t tested it yet

So you guys can work around that :o Most needed would be Asus monitors / Systems. I’ll test the new Samsung I just got tonight.

Sup man…is this just for casuals on weekends or just whenever. I can bring full setup with ae and kof. Just gotta figure out when I wanna get back into fighting games :x D3 is owning my soul right now.

Perfect fighting game = KoF 13 - HD combos - Mr. Karate…and a couple other chars lol

I wish roll systems were incorporated into more FGs, as long as they have some risk attatched.

This is for Tuesday nights.
