The New TN Thread: Kings of Kang

That’s at least six months out and after the end of the world though, I’m playing that sh*t now.

Fair enough. Good lookin out playing that FT5 with me even though it’s not your cup of tea anymore.

Let me know if a trailer is needed, I am sure we can work something out if I am not slammed.

Edit: Also will there be TTT2?

Spent the last 2 hours in training mode for VF5FS. Now i remember why i loved playing this game.

I like the game, but I just feel like I’m doing something when in reality I’m probably mashing :frowning:

So six flags is cancelled due to everyone backing out for various reasons, except for woot. Oh well i’m going to miami for 5 days instead. I think i’ll play flocker and crew one of those days and get bodied with my new team lol

How so? I haven’t actually watched any footage yet.

Long post, going to add spoilers:

It’s time for Hiryu’s VF Basics, Part 2!

Ok, so last post I went over the basic “rules” for the Attack/Throw/Block interactions. Now it’s time to look at some movement options that change the way the A/T/B rules work. I’m talking about Defensive Moves (DM), Offensive Moves (OM) and a state that can arise either as a result of movement or from getting hit with certain attacks, Side Turned (ST).

Defensive Move.

[details=Spoiler]DM can be thought of as equivalent to the sidesteps from Tekken. While it does have some similarities, it also has some crucial differences.

First, there are two types of DM’s or evades. Successful, and Failed. This has to do with the timing with which you start the DM. You want to start evading right before the attack you are dodging becomes active. Think of it as usually evading LATE. If you evade Successfully, your character will say something, or give some sort of vocal cue: “Hyah!”, “Huah!” or something of the sort. If you evade and hear nothing, then it is a mistimed, empty or Failed evade.

On a successful evade you dodge the attack completely, even if you dodge towards a wall. Also, depending on the attack, you are at frame advantage, and may even be on your opponent’s side, More on ST in a moment.

What beats DM? Tracking moves, or throws. Tracking works differently in VF. While there are specific moves that are made to track, like full or half-circulars, ALL attacks can track during a failed evade.

Let’s say Jacky starts his PPP string. You evade. Three things can happen:

• You evade successfully, he ends his string, and now you are to his side or even behind him for a punish.

• Your evade fails, and you eat the string.

• You successfully evade the first hit, yet when you try to counterattack, his last hit tracks and hits you! What happened?

The first and second scenarios need no explanation; however the third one is confusing. Fucking tracking, how does it work?

Well, if you evade a string and still get hit out of your punish due to the string “auto-correcting”, this is what happened. You tried to punish too early. If you evade a string correctly, you must wait until the string is over, otherwise the last attacks will track as if your evade failed! This can lead to some unusual situations, but what this means is that you need to know your opponent. Most strings end in 2-5 hits, wait it out til he’s in recovery, then punish.

Here’s another scenario: You get a knockdown, and you approach your opponent as he gets up. While he is waking up, he does a wakeup kick, either mid or low. You evade, but still get hit. That’s because MOST wakeup kicks are full circular attacks, they will hit evades regardless of timing.

Almost every character has either a full circular regular attack or string, or a half-circular, or both. Circular attacks track, though half-circs only track one way and can still be dodged if you know what side they track to.

If you get hit with a circular move during your evade, it counts as a Counter Hit. [/details]

Offensive Move.

[details=Spoiler]At first this seems like a wonky DM, and if not used correctly seems kinda useless. It has a very specific function. You can use this move to move to your opponent’s side only if he is BLOCKING. If you initiate a OM while your opp is actively blocking you get a dash towards his side. This is used to gain positioning on a defensive opponent so that you have the frame advantages that you get from having your opp in ST. This is situational, as most people don’t just sit there and hold block, but can give ST positioning for free.

Edit: Have not tested this, but reports say that any attack done immediately after an OM count as a side turned attack even if the positioning is not completely ST. More to follow.

The downside to OM is that if they attack while you perform OM, you will dash right into their fist. So only used this if you know your opponent is going to sit there and block for a full second or so. [/details]

Side Turned.

[details=Spoiler]This position is extremely strong for the attacker and if you are able to force your opponent into it, either through attacks or movement you gain several advantages.

• Side Turned opponent is considered to be at negative frames.
Just by being in ST, you are behind on frames automatically. This means you cannot evade, attack or sometimes even block as quickly as you would be able to in a normal stance. This leads to the situations outlined below.

• Additional frame advantage on attacks:
Depending on what you use to attack an opponent in ST, you get bonus +frames to your attack, anywhere from +1 to +6! This is huge in terms of making moves safer. For example, Jeffry does 2,3PP and forces you into side turn. He then follows up with his big knee launcher which is -15 on block. You block it and go for your punish but he blocks it! How can he do that when he is -15 after that knee? Well, thanks to you being in ST, he had a bonus +6 frames to that attack, meaning his actual recovery was -9, not -15. Therefore nothing is guaranteed at -9. Just by you blocking out of ST, he got to attempt a big launcher essentially for free because there is no guaranteed punish on block from that position.

• CH Crumples on more attacks:
Normally, only specific moves give you a crumple stun that leads to a combo. However, if you counter hit an opponent in ST, moves that normally do NOT crumple will give you a special crumple stun! For example, Vanessa lands KK, forcing her opponent into ST. She follows up with 3K and gets a CH because her opp tried to 2P. The counter hit gets a side crumple, allowing Vanessa to followup with 2P+K, 4P+K, 6PKK for close to 100 damage if not more since the combo got a damage bonus too from the CH starter. Experiment to see what moves give you the crumple on ST CH. It leads to scary mixups between attack/throw on ST opponents because failing to block or getting CH out of ST leads to huge possible damage. [/details]

And that’s it for part 2! It’s been a long one. Next time I’ll go over reversals, sabaki, inashi and other special situations.

everything was very close and the play was amazing. There is just a lot to talk about with it.

@ 1:24:55

Really? He had enough charge time for that?

Dayumnnnnn, I’ll definitely be there. Sounds sick. I’ll be in that King O’ Fatting for sure, and I’ll probably contribute to the SF4 pot for fun… Stand around and make fun of SFxT, then go watch Marvel for a good laugh. I do really want to play Marvel now though… Just so I can play run away Dorm and throw on some super cheap point char.

God I want the poster for the event to be so amazing, can we do old WWF references mixed with new popular characters?

Hulk with the Hulkamania outfit on
Ken as Shawn Michaels
Gief and Abel as Scott Hall and Kevin Nash
Deadpool as Rey Mysterio
Raiden as Vader
Andy as The Undertaker

God, the amount of brainstorming going on right now is staggering.

Also, apparently in my house KOF13 is now named:

Terry X Robot John Travolta XIII

fucking Maxima players

Hey all, new guy here. Was directed from Reddit that I should introduce myself, so here goes. I’m Jamie, and for a looooong time (when it was around) I was always up at Wolfchase Arcade playing whoever came by at Tekken, Soul Calibur, GGX, and whatever else. I’m looking to get back in the fighting game scene, so I’ll be checking out the Wednesday Fight Night event. Look forward to seeing some of you guys there!

Out of the blue intro /end.

Sweet - see ya there! Usually it’s UMVC3, KOF13, AE, VF5, and the occasional T6 (all primarily run on 360 with the exception of Tekken).

Okay - time for some detective work … who’s the other redditors in here…

What’s up man! I was up at Wolfchase for a good minute when CvS2 was around. When Tilt was still open anyway. Dunno if you ever got into CvS2 but I wouldn’t be surprised if we played before if you were into that game.

Yeah come by TnG this Weds night, I’ll be the asian guy playing VF. What you looking to play these days, fight night games tends to fluctuate depending on what ppl bring. We do have players for SFAE, UMvC3, KOF, VF, etc. Of course if you feel like bringing your own setup you are welcome to do that too.

Most of us are on Xbox, FWIW.

Edit: Good shit Doug.

WARNING: INCOMING REDDITOR

You made it! Excellent. Don’t disappoint me; I’m kind of a big deal around here…

How the hell did you find each other on Reddit to redirect here? Is there a MemphisTennesseFightingGameCommunity subreddit or something? Craziness.

well between the fighting game specific subreddits, the irc channel, and the active comments sections, I can’t imagine it was too hard

<hipster>If you stay away from the god awful mainstream subreddits</hipster> and stick to the specialized smaller communities reddit is actually a pretty usable site

Still playing the inferno outta some d3.
