Also to Kanzuki_boy: The Nashville crew is probably the best place to try and prepare for a tourney up that way. Skilled players that learn games fast.
I will be putting SFxT as foremost priority but I get to play roughly 0-6 hours a week so I dunno how well its gonna go for me 
arcade is right inside the mall and meetups are pretty densely populated, pretty low risk environment imo. I don’t think too many people do meetups at their house/apt OR AT LEAST THEY DONT INVITE ME so I don’t know if you’ll get much opportunity elsewise.

I play sparingly at Fight Night and every other day online for about 30-45 minutes…since I can’t play two games with the same amount of time that is now shared with AE…definitely in the same boat but you can be competitive barely playing…heck I make it a point to know as little about the game(s) as possible sometimes just to test my own sanity, lol
