The New TN Thread: Jaggas and Bingos all day

SFxT just feels weird to me. The gameplay just feels choppy or something. Maybe it’s just because when I played I only really used Sagat and he has lots of two hit normals so chaining feels/looks a little weird… The game just doesn’t really feel like it flows.

Easiest thing is to say no to gems in tourneys just because of the “random” factor. No one will agree on gems, cancelling them out completely makes it fair for everything.

The game (SFXT) has issues but what game doesn’t? It is a really fun game to play. I just don’t see what it matters to having the Tekken characters play wacky…they left their “feel” in and this is Capcom’s version of the game. I am sure Namco’s version is going to require SF player to hold d/f like CVS1 did for certain basics…

I don’t see why “graphics” make a fighting game. They don’t. The music isn’t terrible either. Take MVC2 and CVS2 for a listen and compare the two.

I really don’t see what all the hate is about, the game has enough stuff for SF4 players…most of the SF4 players don’t like it because of no focusing or FADCing? Really?

I mean, I understand KOF is fun, but that game has some pretty silly stuff also. It is definitely more complicated until you get to easy mode drive meter with easy mode combos…you HAVE to know the high damaging stuff in KOF to succeed. You don’t need to know that in a lot of other fighting games…you can thoroughly out play people in KOF but still lose and the “comeback” factor is very hard once you are down…

SFXT has time out features…The game really only seems fast if you don’t know how to manage your meter…and “fast” shouldn’t even be a factor. Tekken (any of them) play royally fast and you die quicker…

I just don’t get all the fuss…this game has defied a lot of expectations and is really really fun…competitively it might not be but it is still a fun as hell game…just think there is a lot of weird nitpicking about the game…

Ok guys here’s the update on the whole situation. I tell you man God is good, i mean dude is GODLIKE BEYOND GODLIKE!!! I always believed my mom to be a strong woman and always admired her for that but today she just blew my mind. after that terrible wreck and all the tests and all that good shit i am here to inform everyone that she is back home safe and WALKING AROUND AND SHIT!!! WTF??? i am so happy right now that words can’t even begin to describe! Thank you all for your support, you guys always show just how good friends ya are. I made a get well page for her on facebook and sent an invite to all of u i’m friends with on fb so be sure to check it out and leave a message for her.for those of you who r not on fb or whatever and are around the area i will be going to fox later on around 6:30 or so for some drinks and celebration so if u wanna come please do because it will be really nice to kick it with you guys after such a stressful day. I also have a get well card with me so you guys can sign. Josh if u wanna go text me later and meet me at my house. Again thank u all!!!

On to business, orel u need to go to fox anyways cause we need to discuss tournament plans, same to squabb. as far as sfxt goes i enjoy playing the game it is fun, ugly as shit but i def do not see myself taking the game serious to a tournament level but i will play the hell out of it because it is FUN! keyword there being fun. play it ppl and stop complaining. 2v2 is too lmao and needs to be done more often.

edit: nvm about gems. That’s really great news man, really happy to hear it.

@ Jason…I’m disappointed in you. Having “fun”. For shame.

P.S. CvS2 music is fucking great. WHO ARE YOU?!?!?

@ Jose: That’s excellent news! Damn man, that’s what’s up. Kiss and hug moms man, that was a close one. Which Fox are you going to? Out here? I may stop by.

@ Cale: Play Tekken.

Jas: That is definitely some good news  Glad she is back safe…

Oh and yes, the 2 on 2 with 4 people playing is even more fun…tourneys for that are going to be hilarious…

I mean, a lot of you guys took MVC3 seriously when it first came out (and that game is one big troll) and the only people that are still playing it are basically near experts…is there anything wrong with that? No…if they think the game is fun, they think the game is fun…for tournaments? Marvel is a bit wtf and I am sure SFXT will eventually get that way but this game is far from being like that. It’s basically Darkstalkers and Street Fighter Alpha 1. Everyone has links to chains like Guy. Everyone has the same kind of combos but the juggles for teammates are what changes the landscape of the game. I used to think it was limited to 2-3 hits but I’ve seen Lili go into full combos every single time from a tag in, same with Law…the game has some interesting stuff…

“Tourney mode?” Can you elaborate or go link to info?

yeah man. If you have any kind of grey area it’s going to be a problem. Theory fighter tells us you don’t give FG players room to “infer.” It only leads to trouble. All or nothing…and in this case it should be NO GEMS.

THIS. HOLY SHIT GUYS.

Guys Sev and I have been discussing this game all day. The best way I can put it is this. I don’t necessarily HATE the game. Now I’m not exactly calling it GOTY either. What I do hate is what it represents. You have these gems that are TO nightmares, PAID DLC FOR CONTENT ALREADY ON THE DISC. PAID. ARE YOU GUYS HEARING ME? It wasn’t like the game released at $40 retail then they charge another $20 for chars. Now that would be horseshit too, but think about what is happening here: you are paying FULL RETAIL PRICE FOR THIS GAME. SIXTY AMERICAN DOLLARS. AND SOMEHOW NIGGAS ARE JUST OK WITH THE FACT THAT THEY ARE CHARGING FOR 12 CHARACTERS ALREADY ON THE MOTHERFUCKIN DISC. HOLY SHIT. Gem packs?! Autocombos?! Is this a fighting game or an MMORPG? I just don’t know man. I just feel gross playing the game.

DLC TECH. YO I BOUGHT THE ILLEST AUTOCOMBO KID. GOTTA CATCH EM ALL.

hahahahahahaha fuck you nigga! Lmao!

America was founded on CAPCOMitalism.

Godddd. I’m thru man. If I like, get a free copy of this game or some shit I’ll fuck around, but I will not go out of my way for this game. Kang, AE is secondary, shit I’m even looking at TTT2 when it drops. Game at FR was mad sexy. But this…this I just can’t do it man. This game is stressing me out bruh.

Ok back to regularly scheduled gem talk: I was planning on trying the auto-block and throw-tech gems, for reals. I mean, if it’s in there, it’s in there, I might as well try it. Think about it, sometimes you block the wrong way, or miss a throw tech. So what if it uses meter, that’s one less thing I gotta worry about. I enjoy fighting games in *spite *of meters and gauges and combos and shit.

I’m straight serious, btw.

And I’ll be right there with you complaining about long-ass-combos, but you better check KOF on that note too. For what apparently the best fighting game to grace this green earth, there sure are some long as hell combos to practice. Not trying to dis it, but I guess it’s just the way games are now, and if I’m gonna enjoy a game, it’s going to be in spite of this trend. Looks like I gotta get around it no matter what game I’m playing, and right now SF4 is the least offender.

Cale: That’s definitely right…there’s a lot of “training” mode stuff into insert silly combo here and if you aren’t aware of it, you’ll lose 50-60% easy just on a couple of meters and that’s not even “drive” stuff. I think as solid as KOF is people are smoking crack if they think that is the best game ever…the balance in that game is wtf off, and I’m not so sure about buying characters for $5 each, especially since they are supposedly overpowered? I mean, people complained about SF4 but that game had balance…KOF just improved a lot from XII but I think people are confusing the old school base the game has which will make it impossible to win in the long run. I’ve still never seen a game where you can outplay someone for 90% of the time and lose…basic moves <<<<< big combos…You won’t catch up.

Kof is fun, great, etc, but any game that requires you to spend that much time in it…it’s essentially like a big Home Run derby vs people trying to play Small Ball…except you just can’t catch up in this game…

FlyMike: LOL, I like to have fun once in awhile…I am sure you play a lot of random games for “fun” too

Also, KOF charges $5 a character. I don’t think anything should be brought up about SFXT content when this is active. KOF creates more of a nightmare than turning off gems in SFXT.

The gems are there but are turned off in tourney play. Again, don’t understand the fuss.

Marvel Super Heroes WAR OF THE GEMS came out before this many many many years ago. People played it and had fun and didn’t dissect it. Was it a tourney game? No, none of the “Vs” (Marvel) games were until people decided “fun” games like X-Men vs Street Fighter (which is absolutely super duper ultra broken) would have tourneys but that was the point, they weren’t taken that seriously and people had fun.

SF4AE had a free upgrade for balance, ver 2012 because people whined quite a bit, but hey, it was FREE. They could have very well called it SFAE Turbo and charged us another $20-25 for it and people still would have paid it but you can’t really defend KOF is the only thing being an issue is the DLC. Every single fighting game makes you pay for characters now except for SF4. MK did it, KOF did it, and if SFXT does it, so what?

And about Auto Combos…no one is going to be doing those in high level play…this game is game is going to be turtle fest until someone gets an opening…

Still have to laugh at how this game is being portrayed when MVC3 and Blazblue exists…you literally guess wrong and you are DEAD to combo videos in those games.

I thought the same thing. This must be what happens when OGs actually LIKE current gen fighters. It never happens, this is new territory for all of us.

Jason you know I love you dearly man, but come on now, no comeback when down in KoF? I MIGHT give you the high damage thing, but look at cornbread style. Terry rising tackle ain’t no HD combo, and you see Marcus putting in work with the point guard.

As far as comeback factor…all I have to say is…Kyo. put that man on anchor. He could have 300 health and I could have two full health characters and i’d be ready to shit myself.

One credit I will give the game is some of the (and I hate this word) “scrubby” stuff was taken out - large reversal windows so no DP or wakeup super mashing, normal throw distance/window, etc. But if you look at a lot of the top players that like the game, they come from mashy game backgrounds - mike ross, combofiend, arturo, etc. So it’s just really hard to make a judgement based on what they say.

JOSE THAT IS AWESOME MY DOOD. I was actually pretty worried here at work. Didn’t wanna see “that post” or get “that text” na’mean? So glad she’s doing well. I need to meet your fam cousin!

Graphics: I have never been one to say a game has to have amazing graphics in order for it to be good but this is just beyond ugly. Even if we take out the “artistic taste” that resulted in those horrible character models/portraits the color palette is horrible and it interferes with game play. Lets say you pick Ken red outfit and go to the metal works stage and have “powar” gems equipped. You have a char in a red outfit fighting in a background of red, orange and pastel versions of those colors who is now flashing red. It makes it almost impossible to distinguish what is going on. I mean I know people complained about the Volcano and Car stages in SF4 but this is so much worse than that
-Side note: Why is half the tekken cast done up like joke characters. Bob, Hei, Kuma, Paul, Law ect

Music: I mean I guess if you compare it to MvC2 the music is ok. But I guess if you compare it to the wails of a dying animal its pretty good too. When you compare it to FGs who had good music (3s, CvS2, Kang, GG) it sounds generic and forgettable even accounting for peoples different taste in music. I mean no bad music doesnt make it a terrible game alone but like have said so many times before I dont get why as FG players we will randomly decide to let something bad slide in a game just cause

Gameplay: For me the game is choppy. Movement and poking into combos all of it feels/looks like old motion capture. Its just choppy I dont even have a better word for it. This could be exacerbated by the horrible color scheme in the game though

Focusing ect: I agree this isnt a big deal it just takes some getting used to

Bullshit: Negro Justice said it best this game embodies everything we as gamers should hate even outside all the graphics and taste stuff. Paid DLC for on disc content (that a handheld system will get for free), Gems in general, Gems as paid DLC, Auto combos ect. That is what this game stands forand we are eating it up. I am guilty of buying it as well for full price so they got my money. I should have waited or rented it but I bought into the hype since so many “top players” said it was good

Fun: 2v2 might be fun I havent tried that yet just for the WTF factor. If anyone hosts this weekend let me know and I will give it a shot

Jas: I am SO happy to hear your mom is doing well and back home.

Oh KoF $5 characters is bullshit too, no one is gonna argue that.

As far as long ass combos go, in KoF you at least have to work for it. You use your FUNDAMENTALS, then you get crunk if you can confirm. There is no snapback, x factor nonsense. You can’t get hit at the start of the round and lose a character. And if you lose a character the next one coming in doesn’t get mixed up for free, etc.

Shit even Tek can be whacky to a degree. I guess wrong on a block or wakeup and can catch a combo for 70% right off top. And I’m not hating, got love and respect for Tekken, just using it to support my point.

Look at Majin’s cornbread ass. I know Marcus was the star at FR, but that nigga got top 16 in KoF also. There were no long ass combos to be found.

Chris: I’m not like other OGs, I actually LIKE all the SF games past ST. All the other guys can’t really “adjust” sans for Valle and Arturo and a few others but footsies are intact (even though hitboxes are wtf in SFXT) but you never heard me say a bad thing about SF4 and I played CVSes, SF3 series, Alphas all at competitive levels, etc…

It’s also not just that…the throw thing in KOF is a little weird, the “hold” thing is not automatic, you won’t precisely throw when you want and on turtle fest stuff you can’t just walk up grab because you have an eon to counter it with a super slow crouch LK or LP.

Kyo is one of the best characters in the game, overall a beast, there are just certain characters that flow completely different than the gameplay, it’s almost as if we should remove a bunch of characters but Rising Tackle on Terry doesn’t amount to cross up stand Fierce insert easiest combo in the world here and lose 1/2 life…I understand many games have stuff like this, but like I said, the “catch up” is only really dependent in the characters you choose. Not saying I don’t like Kof, I do, but the online sucks, the game can be very slow unless you use certain characters and it isn’t reliant on certain mind games that were prevalent in every other fighting game in existence.

You guys must be thinking CVS1 with music. CVS2 has freaking circus music in it. It has ONE stage with pretty good music (the green stage) everything else sounds horrendous.

KOF has always had good music. That is why CVS1 has great music, it keeps up with the standards and feel of the game, CVS2 really sounds horrendous. 3 series is good. Honestly the only two fighting games I know with terrible music are CVS2/MVC2.

Best music in fighting games, Tekken series and Soul Calibur series. I don’t even LIKE Soul Calibur and I’ve played Tekken 6 sparingly but Tekken Tag has some of the greatest music I have ever heard…I mean, I collect video game soundtracks, I know what’s up…seriously, CVS2??? WTF, LOL…Can’t stop laughing that that one…

Birmingham is the 24th unless something changes. I’ll keep this group posted. We are usualy not out of there until stupid late, FYI.

Flymike, the one in cordova so do it nigga! be there!

And yea in all honesty i mean come on now it is true marvel was a big ass troll and that game is stupid on soo many levels but it’s still fun so we still play it. sfxt on the other hand to me is just plain fun period! Like i can get my ass beat and still enjoy the game and laugh my ass off at the way this game carries itself out. Like ppl just play it and have fun, you don’t need to take it so serious and still u can be good at it. i tell u i cant wait for ranbats in this shit! 2v2 ranbats and winners at the end of the season get championship belts? Too epic! Me and Josh(team we got them sticks and swag!)

Also fox! who else is down? come on negros! LET’S GOOO!!!

@ Jason: CvS1 DID have better music than CvS2 and you did give CvS2 green stage props. But even boat stage is better than what I heard from SFxT. And people go nuts from TTT2 OST. I’ve heard that shit at campus parties so it’s understood yea. I like T4 music better myself. GG music is the best imo though. And as it should be, since whole game is a tribute to rock legends and bands and stuff.

And you do have a LEGIT comeback mechanic in XIII diff from newer gen bs comeback stuff, and it’s not just limited to beefy Kyo. Game lets you use the tools and gauges at your disposal to bring yourself back. Not really in the same vein of SF4/MvC3 where there’s almost this end-all, be-all that’s guaranteed to be a factor and executed with relative ease.

We could go back and forth with it, I do feel where you’re coming from a bit. But it’s with the other games. When I hear, see, smell SFxT, it’s like I don’t know you guys anymore. Like you’re zombiefied versions of yourselves. I can’t even do that game for “fun”. Because what you see as “fun” was meant for serious, concrete competition. And a greater percentage of the community sees it as such. I’ll play Powerstone if I want fun with rocks. And what’s funny, Powerstone 1 is likely more competitive than SFxT. Honestly. Really think about it.

@ Jose: Yea cool I’ll prob shoot it through.

If you wern’t at Final Round watching marcus and 'rell play KOFXIII, you don’t know that “stale bread” KOF style of play. I swear to go it was so stale you could not soften the 'bread with water in a microwave oven on HIGH for 20 seconds.

Sure, $5 per character for KOFXIII. I can handle, that’s what…Mr. Karate, EX Kyo, EX Iori, and …yeah…that’s $15. So…$54 total. I can swallow that. 3 characters added to the roster…

…paying $60 for 12 characters, and the other 12 characters that are missing, are DLC. I don’t care if they are on-disc or not…essentially, you are paying $60 for 50% of the game. Am I dumb for making this analogy? Is this analogy off-base? Correct me if I’m wrong.

(In the meantime, excuse me while I trade in my MVC3 games for another copy of KOF on PS3…)

LOL I actually like the game, but there is no denying the comments by Sev and FlyMike are absolutely hilarious!!! lol

GGs to Sev today. I should be a lot better the next time we play man after I actually spend time in Training mode with the team I want to run. But I was still having fun, while you looked as if someone was taking rusty nails to a chalkboard! lol

My take on everything, from a slaws perspective: The game is solid. It is really fun to play and I plan on making this my main game. However, does that mean the haters don’t have legit points? Not at all.

Eraser is right in that the movements don’t feel smooth especially when you are trying to do combos, but I attribute this to the fact that the game contains both chain and link combos and meshing everything together will just take time.

I’m right with Sev on graphics and Sound. There are only 3 good looking stages on this game, Mad Gear Hideout, Antartica, and Pitstop 109. All the rest look like a 3 year old with a learning disability drew them. But I suppose Ono does have a disability…

Anyway, yea, it almost looks as if Capcom attempted to make the character models a little cleaner or better looking, and managed to make them look worse than their SF4 counterpart. I mean, how do you make a game look worse that uses the same graphical engine as its predecessor? As strong as these systems are now-a-days, ugly games are inexcusable IMO.

The music sucks, point blank. The menu music is pretty sweet and pitstop 109 BGM is dope, but thats it. I would rather listen to the Marvel 2 soundtrack. Its that bad.

The DLC debacle is silly. But Dream makes a good point, KOF characters are $5 a piece. Its like the pot calling the kettle black in that regard. Can’t fault Atus or Capcom for trying to get the paypuh.

I just think at certain points while playing the game, you feel as if the dev team skimped on a certain aspects. Its all about a complete package and at times, this game doesn’t feel complete.

But I still enjoy the game. Its so much fun!! Its different, but not in a bad way IMO. I like the tag system and how it works and I think the game has some depth. At least when you compare it to Marvel it does. If Marvel 3 is being played competitively, this game CERTAINLY can be played competitively.

I didn’t have high hopes for this game, but it eclipsed those by a long shot. So yea…

Jas, VERY HAPPY to hear that about your mom!!! Wish I could come out for drink but I have some editing to do at my church.

And is anyone watching this IPL event? Welcome to eSports…smh
