The New Tennessee Thread - We have Acrade Edition and tournaments out the anus

Well, since there was just a big player complaint at the Power Up tournament, let me explain something. You guys WERE separated. Unfortunately both of you lost to people that sent you both to the loser’s bracket and it’s not getting switched that late in the tournament. (You both played each other in a top 10 match out of 34 in a loser’s bracket, so that’s unavoidable)

If Patrick didn’t lose to Shinblade so early this wouldn’t have happened but you guys were separated and just ended up having to play each other in loser’s bracket late.

It’s unfortunate that happened but there’s no way around it unless I float half the state and with the large number of Nashville people there you WILL have to eventually play someone local but you and Patrick were on opposite ends of the bracket that just happened to meet when he was clearing house in loser’s because he lost VERY early in the tournament…

Ya, 1st was URBACON in MVC3, and Shinblade got 2nd, we just didn’t have a result yet at that point.

Thanks to everyone that made the trek and congrats to all the winners! I’m glad everyone came out to say goodbye to Shawn and supported the scene, 13 hours of tournaments (we ran 5 tourneys) and it felt like a MWC for sure…

Shin, what team did you play?

Official top results for each game posted up.

SHOUTOUTS!!!

Richard and Jason - Awesome job hosting and running the tournaments. I had a blast meeting and hangoing out with everyone. You two had a great interaction when I reported my first match…

Jason: It’s 2 out of 3. You already won two matches?!
Richard: Yeah, don’t doubt it. His team and Hulk is retarded.

ShawnMcCool - We only talked for a second, but that’s because I was intimidated by the cool aura around you. Good luck to you in the future and hope you transition well. You lost in the executive chair though… :frowning:

Grimstar - Thanks for hanging out with me. I enjoyed trying to figure out who everyone was with you. Also, you kind of disappeared at some point. Did you leave early?

Negro Justice (I prefer that name over your real name) - We talked for about 10 minutes, then we introduced ourselves. That was great. It was cool meeting you. I let you use the executive chair too, but apparently its powers only work for its owner.

Trung - I don’t know if you post here, but nicely played against me in the tournament. You quickly saw that Hulk rocked your entire team in our first match, so you played it safe in the rest. GGs.

Patrick - After finals this week, my team will be Hulk/MODOK/Wesker. I should be able to win more with that team. Seriously, it’s always fun playing you.

Jacob - Always fun talking to you and watching you play AE. Yun is broke… you know that.

Bishop - I was scared of that She-Hulk, so I rushed her down ASAP. I laughed at everyone, including myself, getting beat by her overhead. It was fun watching you play AE, MK, and MvC3.

Eugene - Same as Jacob. It’s entertaining watching that Fuerte jump around everywhere.

IQuick - We never played MvC3. Maybe next time… :frowning:

Memphis crew - Thanks for diving up. It was a lot of fun and hopefully we can all do it again soon.

Not just that, but I overheard another person say “Wow, looks like I need to anchor Hulk, jesus”

Hiryu- Lol I don’t change my team. Always Avengers (Cap,Iron,Wolv)

Oh okay. Thanks for the explanation. It could’ve been much worse, like being paired up first round. I certainly wasn’t complaining at you or how the tournament was run. It was more of a complaint on my bad luck.

Also, does anyone know URBACON’s username here? I think he said he was from Huntsville, Alabama.

GGs to everyone I played in MK/AE/Super.
All fight money’s were gladly and graciously accepted.

and challenging me to money match.

Astaroth: Yeah, it was kind of whatever when you guys had to play, would have rather seen both of you try and work as a team through each set of the brackets but alas it was not meant to be…still am amazed at how quick you dispatched of people, I seriously turned around and you won matches, LOL

Patrick kept getting on AE whenever he was waiting for matches, and I was kind of stuck in the MvC3 zone the whole time. Next time we’ll see if we decide team up and help each other. Honestly though, neither of us was top 3, which was surprising to me (no offense to all other players). I hadn’t seen that strong of play in MvC3 in TN until last night, so it was still a great experience.

About the fast winning thing, my team is a “touch of death” team. If Hulk hits once, the opposing character usually dies instantly. I then get a free mixup when their next character comes in, so if they guess wrong, they just lost another character. This, combined with everyone using the fast, low-health characters resulted in really fast matches. Plus, people usually don’t have Hulk experience, so they don’t know about frame traps and other gimmicks.

The new firefox is =/. I’m still getting used to it being all like… blah. Feels too apple-y.

Screen shot momentarily.

Regarding Astaroth’s beef with the tournament: I ended up playing a guy who lives in Clarksville and plays with me all the time before you and Patrick ever played each other. It’s annoying, but it can’t be helped. Also, he eliminated me from the tournament, which makes for the third consecutive MvC3 tourney he’s eliminated me from at one point or another. First was grand finals, second was loser’s finals, and this time was down in the boonies. It’s annoying and unfortunate, but it happens, sometimes alot if you end up entering tournaments with the same people all the time.

Shoutouts:

Josh - for being a great Grand Finalist and Team partner in Teams.

Shawn - for being an awesome dhalsim player and a great competitive sport all this time.

Chris B. - for being awesome

JFord - for showing me my first glimpses of high level Yun

ChitHappens - for good sportsmanship

Patrick - for kicking me out of Marvel like the marvel scrub I am lol.

Dream - for holding my money.

Duckie - for going out of his way to get me to Nashville and providing great company on the way back

Is it just me or do Marvel players tend to have a more aggressive demeanor than all the other competitive fighting game players? Shoutouts to Marvel for being so cheap and making everyone so salty xD.

Long live SF!

Damn sounds like the marvel tourney was hella fun. Wish i coulda went but i had to work yesterday morning :frowning:
I guess i will have to wait till MWC to showcase my magneto madness down there.

Lol,marvel always brings out the rage in ppl. And yea it does make players a lot more aggressive because of the nature of the game.

New? That’s how my Firefox has looked for like 5 months or more.

It’s the whole “make one mistake and lose 2/3rds of your team thing.” Or at least that’s what it is for me.

Even better is the “I outplayed the fuck out of you but you have Xfactor (Pheonix, Sentinel, Hulk, Wolverine) and beat my whole team off 2 mixups.” thing. Regardless, Marvel is very salty.

Weird, I was just prompted to download this today.

Yeah I think people just don’t want to admit that when they get bodied that they just suck at the game and need to get better like I always do.

Like Jas said, the random nature of Marvel brings out the aggression. I mostly blame lv3 X-Factor and/or Phoenix. Even though there’s a lot of stupid in that game, it’s still fun as hell.

Hulk is in that list? He gets no speed boost in xfactor, so just run the entire time. I completely agree with the other three, although you can just instant overhead Sentinel and just do your own combo to kill him.
