Technically Cylus’ drive was longer than anyone’s coming from Oxford. My drive has been 45 mins including traffic since fight night started so I feel the pain. At least the venue isn’t closing at 9 so you get to play longer than your commute.
Perhaps I can get Mike to come out if I promise to play KOF with him. Then again he cant even come to my house to play any game anymore so no promises
I agree with having Task or Frank, definitely. In my opinion any three of Taskmaster’s assists can be strongly beneficial here. Forward arrows and keep momentum going for Iron Fist’s pressure. Up-forward arrows can be good for people who are normal jumping around to avoid your ground pressure, and plus you’d probably have time to dash under and go for a quick mixup if they normal jump and are forced to suddenly block the arrows. Up arrows is great for people super jumping, since on block it will force them to stop their movement and, if I remember right, float straight down so you can position yourself based on where they fall. On hit the arrows will just knock them down completely, and you can wavedash around their body like a motherfucker while they get up and keep your pressure going.
Frank is really solid too because of his shopping cart assist. It gives Iron Fist a really solid way to keep frontal pressure since it holds people there for a while, and on hit you can easily follow up with a combo as it leaves the opponent standing. The best part about it to me though is getting people really watch for it and get them to normal jump around a bit. It’s great if you hit them with the assist and get a combo in, but it’s also great if you throw the assist out and jump forward, and at the same time they also happen to jump, in which case you can either hit confirm into his j.HS loop combo or OS Throw and land, QCB+M OTG and do a combo that way. All this stuff is just general shit you’d do when jumping around anyway, but having Frank flying across the screen with a shopping cart to back you up while you’re in the air is pretty nice.
But yeah, Spencer’s upward grapple works amazing here. The fact that he keeps the opponent standing so you can continue combos with extra QCF+M crumples and also use it for mixups to bring people out of the air to start entire combos is amazing. I don’t know that much about Spencer by himself, but since he’s this good for Iron Fist, I’m damn sure gonna learn him.
Man Nova’s theme is so good it makes me want to play him. Screw all you guys with all this extra time to mess with the game. Hopefully I can get into it this weekend.
Yeah I’ll record something later, I’ve been meaning to anyway. I have one on my channel but that was more of a test and isn’t as good as my others. It gives the general idea behind using Spencer mid-combo, though.
You don’t usually play on weekends right? And only weekday I have off is Friday, when I normally run errands during the day. And I don’t normally work in Mississippi anymore and only time I’m even out that way is to go to the barbershop, on the clock. I’ll figure something out though or just free up one of my Friday mornings/afternoons.
Do you even like anyone in KOF? Fyi, Chin is the 2D Shun Di. Lei. Wulong mixed with Gen I guess. BYOB character. The more wasted. he gets, the more technologicals you get. Console version made it where he defense doesnt decrease while he has drinks stored, and his normal grab gives followups in corner. Daimon has Falling Sky and he rolls. So I guess that may interest you. Console version made him back a beast in that he has faster recovery on stuff and cancels on certain shit. Can combo his command roll into specials. Good ass normals. He’s just as scary up close as he is from out of range, whether you’re on the ground or not. No real Viper type in this game but Leona comes to mind as she’s really good but technical to make her shine. You need good execution to get the most out of her relentless rushdown, and she also zones a bit. She’s a charge character but my hands suck and I know I can’t do her instant overhead cancels and that other shit consistently so I prob wont use her in XIII.
Mike: You got to remember man I am not new to KOF at all. I played 98 pretty hard back in VA though to be fair we probably were not as good as we thought we were. As for chars I like and would consider playing Iori, Vice (even tried to make her good in my failed attempt to play CvS2), K, Raiden, Andy, Robert, Takuma, Kim, Shen Woo, Kyo though I miss his old 98 ultimate DM and the new muay Thai guy looks kind of sick too. Finding someone I like to play will be easy. Getting used to KOF style stuff on stick is going to be the hard adjustment for me. Especially the low hops and super low hops. I know early on that is gonan make me miss the PS3 pad something fierce.
As for playing yeah I know its only weekdays or random weekend gathering. And Majin keeps texting me to come out to random Sundays but I only find out that day which kind of fucks me. Then I leave a random Sunday open in case and no one hosts lol. Really though new job as me busy as hell now. This Friday afternoon is the first in a while I will be able to chill. You know I am just giving you shit about not coming over. it was easier when you lived around the corner.
Was just watching that Atlus/Levelup prerelease event for KOF13. Can’t fucking wait for that game. Apparently Ash’s germinal super which costs no meter when he’s in his V-ism super thing keeps your opponent from doing specials for 10 seconds. Seems like that is going to be all kinds of awesome. My team pretty much all got buffs, save for K’, who is still going to be good.
@ Sev: But you’re not full-blooded mexicano. You just a “Taco Bell Gangsta”. Yea I wish I could just drive down the street again lol. I dont know anything really about Hwa Jai. But they’re supposed to be adding Classic Kyo after Flame Iori. I’ll be tempted to run pad too if I can’t get super cancels out on this stick consistently. I already feel like you need Popeye arms for this series anyway.
@ Arson: Fuck you! 10 whole seconds without specials, supers, or command normals! Charge charas cant even store charges during it. Raiden cant charge dropkicks. Ash is just gonna have free rushdown until he aces someone. And yea K’ is good by natural design. And they didn’t really “nerf” him as they made some of his specials juggle from anywhere and his super got complete invincibility.
My main team (Ralf/Maxima/Shen) all got better except Shen is more punishable. But that’s nothing. By the time he comes out it’s still gonna be hit confirm->death. Team Deathfist aka Union of the Swole Hand will be in full effect Tuesday.
Lol good shit. I got Rob on the bench because I’m trying to completely move away from shotos, but I’ll still prob run a squad with him so prepare to get Boomcackled.
Does anyone find those workaholic people funny at all? That song was stupid as is their show.
Mike: I know not being mexican means I am at a disadvantage at this game but I got to try. Watch O buy it, never play and be best in town on his heritage alone.
