Since I’m such a bad person and have little green troll horns coming out of my head…
I know for a fact my manager is looking for weekend help, like ASAP. Its only on the weekends, but you would rather have some income coming in than none. And you can always find something for through the week. You may even meet some people looking to hire people while working in a place like CVS. I know I have so its a possibility. So if you read this anytime soon, you need to put in your application at CVS Pharmacy, location Hwy 64 and Houston Leeve immediately.
As for general job help…
Man you just gotta get your feet wet and apply any and everywhere. But I’m sure that is a given. I know the job forecast is grim, especially for 2012, but if you stay persistent like I did, you are bound to find something. You do have an advantage, as you worked at the FedEx hub and EVERYBODY, especially people here in Memphis know how hard the work is and the conditions you have to endure while out there. Having FedEx on your job application or your resume is a strong indicator that you are a hard worker; and no matter what field you go into, companies love that. I would always hear in interviews “Man how did you do that for 2 years, no way I could have.” So you do have that going for you.
Also, do you have a resume? If so, send it to me and I can make it all nice and neat for you so you can post it on online job sites such as indeed.com, monster.com, and snagajob.com. I took a professional writing class and submitting a resume was one of the assignments; I got a 95 on it so I think I kinda know how to do one PROPERLY!!! lol
Another thing, if you are actively putting in application, FOLLOW UP! I know this song is sung my the most expert of job experts, but it truly is important. Real talk, if I hadn’t called CVS after applying, I would not have gotten the job. My manager even said that. Just calling and following up, no matter how many rude people you may get on the phone, shows you are motivated and that you are truly wanting to work.
As for other places hiring, You would be surprised that a few retail places are still looking for some holiday help. Though most have found all the help they need, I remember being at Target and they hired people after December 1. Also try temp services. Sure, its legalized pimpin, but its a good way to get some cash in your pocket until you find something you better. I know SIMOS over at Winchester and Hacks Cross is hiring and you could be put to work in as little as 2 days. The work is hard, but if you strapped for cash, I’m sure you are willing to do whatever.
I went a year and half without work so I know exactly what your are going through. But if you actively seek employment, you will find SOMETHING. You may have to put the sticks down even. Thats what I did. I couldn’t find it in myself to be unemployed, sitting at the house, hitting buttons all day because I wanted to be “cold” in street fighter while my bills piled up. I was really leveling up at one point too but I just HAD to lay the sticks down and focus on finding a job.
So yea, I know I’m going on and on, but I think that should give you some solid advice. I’m willing to help you in anyway real talk. I will even sit down with you and submit some applications. Being broke ain’t fun homie!
Good luck though Sir Bishop and if you need any additional help, get at me here on on facebook.
