The New Omaha, NE Thread - Now we're better than Ryu's U2!

Shotos on bat-top is pretty gdlk, actually. Should try playing Ryu/Ken on them joints.

You know, in SF2.

Man I couldn’t play shotos in CvS on a battop, I don’t think I could do it in ST or anything of the ilk.

Not with an attitude like that sir

I imagine age and wear are bogging down some of the happ parts. Make no mistake though, some of Americas best came up on those parts. It’s all about the player save for very unique circumstances

I dont run shotos. I run some of the most random characters. I honestly enjoyed the happ for charge characters but I hated FFC’s happ because from what I believe, they are fairly new when they put in the xbox cabs. I hate how much stress you have to put into it.

In reference to the older games, I think both of you should just give it a shot. Play out of your comfort zone both in controls and characters. Let it be a game again.

I can understand where your coming from but I don’t play bats. Don’t ever feel the need to, either.

Don’t misunderstand: I’m not trying to convert you to competitive bat top playing. I recommend you play on anything in a style you aren’t used to because it teaches you to think outside of yourself. If you don’t play a character with a certain type of controller in a game that’s of no consequence to you (sf2 or cvs2) and FFC isn’t going to accommodate you, at least get something out of it. You have no vested interest in the first place, so you have nothing to lose.

I mean, if you go there, might as well do something other than realize “Hey, they aren’t gonna change the sticks.”

The only thing is, I asked if they would switch. FFC is 25 minutes away. If it were 3 minutes away, I would go. I would just like the fact to be that if the arcade dies, I don’t want to be the person that says “I told you so” because people dont want to play on Bats. If the arcade invested, I would be sure people would go. I honestly wish that Sempeck’s, a bowling alley in Elkhorn would add fighting games with proper equiptment and accessories, I would go all the time because that one is 15 minutes away. They just dont have any fighting games there.

That equipment is neither simple to implement nor inexpensive. Realize that they’re not solely investing in new parts like buttons and sticks. They will need to replace entire front panels in order to accomodate that new equipment. I’m working on getting a supergun which bypasses that, but owning a cab means trying to obtain limited and scarce parts which would house Japanese parts. What game would be most profitable to replace with Japanese parts? How many folks would be coming in and when would they see a return on the investment?

I’m sure if you offered to buy an entire panel that would allow JLFs and japanese buttons to be used, you could even begin to meet the owners half way. Even so, you’re recommending something financially that I’m sure they don’t even see as profitable. Helping the offline community, at this juncture, is charity work. You drive 3-6 hours here in the midwest to compete in a local tournament to maybe… pay for… gas money? It’s how things are. It’s easy to say “They should use Japanese parts”, but consider the true cost and work required to do that. Is that fair to them or worth it without community backing?

I don’t know how far they’ve entertained that conversation or the prospect of assistance, but I still would think they’d be rightfully skeptical at best. I’d like to know things like player traffic and potential turn out in the face of what you’re selling as a simple upgrade of parts, because it stops being so simple when you think about stuff like that. Look at all the crap you just had to read, lol.

Anyway, in the case of FFC, the tournaments might draw in players, but you’d have to get a sense of how much money is being put into those machines in the first place. Again, online is a very easy alternative and I’m sure the owners are burnt by that fact in some shape or fashion. Part replacement isn’t that simple, I’d be more concerned with just getting traffic into the venue and being able to bring your own monitors and just increase turnout. They probably make more money off of parties for kids than arcade games, so I doubt there’s any love for your ideas.

The fact we’re already looking for local houses to play at rather than at that establishment means… well, you’re going there for the novelty. So when I say just play something on HAPP you haven’t tried before, it’s because I think you should pretty much resign yourself to those parts staying in there unless you plan on donating a massive amount of charity to FFC.

I’m pretty sure that’s just not going to happen.

You are very, very correct about every single point. The only thing is, when I go home and play Sanwa then go to FFC it feels different. Am I going to purchase a Happ stick? No. Should I? Well probably yes. I feel that the midwest arcades are dead. As you can see they have like 8 Huge arcades in Cali. I am just sad that in Omaha that there is no real love when you go to the arcade. When I go to that bowling alley in Elkhorn, everything is clean, everybody goes there, I just feel that it would be a great place to have a fighting game scene. The place is booming and I wish that people didn’t want to play ticket games all the time.

Fighting games just aren’t as popular as when they were new and arcades in the US are set to die out. It’s gonna happen, just a matter of time. I find that in places like Japan they are so much more a social scene than anything that they can easily remain popular and we just don’t have that in america.

Tomorrow i might go to ffc to play some 3s since its only 15 mins away from school and i dont have to work. If anyone in omaha wants to meet me let me know. It will be about 1 30

I’ll meet up with you, I’m off tomorrow and was thinking of going there anyways.

Also I’m pretty sure we’re doing games tonight/tomorrow night. As usual, texting me is the easiest way to get ahold of me.

I have your number saved in my phone. I will be there anytime between 1 and 1:30, I have to serve a detention for calling a kid a *** today in class. Otherwise I would be there straight at one. Maybe I can serve the detention in the morning.

You mean an ass, right? Cus I can’t figure out what other 3 letter swear exists that is started with a consonant.

Nah it was fa g. I went to ffc and it was chill but im super tired so i think im taking a nap.

Lol, GG’s

Yeah GG’s. Will meet up to your house sometime. Fuck the bat top. The 1P side was so much more stressful than the 2P side.

Shit like that makes me happy I stay on Jap or Korean parts, lol.

At least they hooked us up by moving MvC over to the SFIV screen where the buttons all worked. That was one good thing about going there. But hey, I just got a brand new recliner couch and today I won 3 in a row ranked matches and I feel home was better today. HQYZ, I do want to come over to your place and run games. Hit me up.
