The "NEW!" Official Call Of Duty Thread:

With others, it’s probably just bandwagon hate due to COD being the king.

For me personally, I just don’t like that they put so much avoidable retarded shit in their games when they should know better at this point. I’m not really hating as much as real “haters”; I’m just slowly becoming disinterested in the series.

I usually assume I’m playing with a bunch of trigger-happy children.

I believe now it is the appropriate time to post this article here:

http://www.learntocounter.com/category/the-history-of-why-im-tired-of-your-modern-shooters/

Long story short - Up until the mid 2000’s, FPSes used to be one of the most diverse and popular genres on the personal computer. Then Halo made developers realize it was far more profitable to develop games for consoles and sell overpriced DLC and map packs on closed platforms such as XBox Live to a generation of 12-year olds who had never once in their lives downloaded free custom campaigns and mods for a PC FPS. Meanwhile, the tactical shooter rose in popularity, being one of the few subgenres of FPSes that could be played reasonably well on a gamepad, causing fast-paced arena shooters such as UT and Quake to slowly disappear from the market and no longer be produced by developers.

In 2007, CoD 4 becomes a smash hit, popularizing the modern warfare setting in first person shooters. And in the meantime, the economic crisis of 2008, combined with the rise of game development costs causes most major megapublishers to adopt extremely conservative corporate strategies. These companies decide that in order to be sucessful every game had to follow the current market leader. Thus mediocre CoD clones start to flood the market (Medal of Honor, Homefront). And naturally, Activision also decides to churn out sequels to Call of Duty every single year. Ultra linear, “cinematic”, realistic, setpiece-based tactical shooters become the norm. And so, an once thriving genre became creatively stagnant. And thus, the Call of Duty hate bandwagon was born, for it represents the creative sterility that pretty much dominates the game industry these days.

It is definitely part of anti-camping. And thus CoD became dominated by SMG/AR rushers. And from what I’ve read, apparently Ghosts has AGAIN made LMGs and shotties crappy. Couple that with these ridiculous five-different-flank-routes-everywhere maps, and it sounds like MW3 all over again.

God forbid you mind your own ass and take care to NOT get flanked. Sometimes you guys say the stupidest shit ever. Like the game is supposed to carter to you.

The game is obviously catering to a specific play style. The last COD game with decent map design was BO1. Because of all the camping complaints, both treyarch and IW have drastically changed their map design to cater to those that just want to rush all game. MW3 had TONS of flank routes, BO2 nerfed ghost.

The maps no longer feature they dynamic settings in say MW2 or BO1, where you’d avoid certain routes because you didn’t have the weaponry. MW3 and now ghosts (from the 3 hours i played last night) both favor running around with reckless abandon. It’s very easy to see, go back and play domination in MW2, then play it in MW3. It’s vastly different because of how the maps are laid out.

In the most recent games you’ll see flags capped back and forth between teams like crazy, while in the older games it actually felt like you were fighting to cap the other sides flag and you had to play smart. You don’t always need a flank route, sometimes you should have to engage in a prolonged firefight to cap and objective. A lot of that feeling has been lost IMO.

The problem regarding maps comes down to people who play now just don’t like the idea of strategy. They like being able to run around like idiots hoping to flank and pick off everything. Thus when i play and get killed they feel satisfied that they took out a “faggot camper” because apparently i am not playing the way the game is now designed.

MW2 had great maps that I REALLY hope they incorporate into ghosts. Course that is asking much because the old team is long gone. And yet… It’s hard to describe what made those maps so good. Both symmetrical in how you get to a point yet asymetrical at the same time. Right now the maps are overly complex for a game that runs max 18 players. Hell can’t even do more than 12 on current gen so they feel so easy to get lost. So far only things that has improved is streaks and to a lesser degree perks IMO.

@Infernoman will you play TDM with me next time we’re both on? I feel like we could induce a lot of rage.

Stupid question, but which COD you two gonna be playing? If BO2, you on xbox? My bitch class is very good at makign people rage.
I hardly play blops2 anymore because it bores me. A quest for hate mail would be a good reason to dust off my copy.

EDIT: I just realized i kinda sounded like a dick so allow me to explain. Blops2 bores me because very few are even competent at it. Dont get me wrong, i like going positive/extremely positive pretty much every game. But at some point I end up feeling like im fighting a classrooms worth of 8 year olds with a sledgehammer every time i join a game. In retrospect, that is essentially what im doing because so many bad parents by this shit, but its not really fun if its not at least a minute challenge.

THE MAPS ARE TOO DAMN BIG

It seriously feels like some executives asked these guys to make the game more like battlefield

People are camping like their lives depend on it lol and it’s just day one. Will play some Domination later on. I should have read that tutorial before jumping into MP

Getting it on friday, I’m a retired trick/quickscoper with a huge sense of sniper entitlement.

would like to party.

…ps3

The Honey Badger is fun so far, AND THEY BROUGHT BACK THE MAGNUM, the one gun I wish was in Blops 2(to be honest the only complaint I had of black ops 2 were the guns that felt a little bland after a while).

.44 Magnum + Muzzle Brake = Fuck your shit

Stonehenge is fucking massive o0

So, does the game still have that “1 bullet death/5 bullet kill” thing the last few have had? In between other errands today, I’ve been absorbing every bit of media about this game that I can. NOTHING has convinced me to buy it. But I’m still holding out a bit of hope. Is the lag compensation as bad as before? If so, when do the dedicated servers go online?

Yeah, we’d be BO2ing on 360. Talk about make-u-mad, my KDR is 2.58 and my SPM is 106. Think about that for a minute.

My GT is Vizince
Infernoman is Infernoman

What?

Kinda, but not really, then again most deaths have been from hehind not in gunfights

Off the top of my head from memory, I had KDR of 1.78 and SPM of 288. I maintained that across SND and TDM. Man look at all these fucking acronyms.

Ill add you when im done with dinner. Ill wait for Inferno to see these posts/say its alright to add him. My GT isnt the terrible name anymore so inferno would look at the GT like “who the fuck is this?”.

Mine is MJR Poltergeist.
