The new NEW Dayton, OH thread

So you guys DID go somewhere after WSU and gamed?! Why didn’t…why didn’t anyone call me? Kam! I texted you! YOU BASTARD!

Hi, I’m Amanda.

Now that we’ve been introduced I’ll be sure to give you a heads up next time when Otter and I have people over.

Adam: You don’t really have to be confident in Marvel. It’s for fun. You can bet 1 dollar if you wanted. Hell, I’ve seen a 50 cent bet before, lol. It not going to be anything over 5.

And you don’t have to do money matches if you don’t want to. I just didn’t want people to think that they couldn’t make things spicey.

And don’t worry. You won’t be disqualified for cheese.

Hi Amanda. I’m Kris. Pleased to meet you. I’m still going to have to rape Kam’s face for not letting a negro know. So I have 3 daytonites on my list of people to kill.Oh, I haven’t forgotten about you Adam and Quentin…soon…soon I’ll enact my plan to wipe Dayton out. MWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

, Matt. You were complaining about tick throws in ST on the way to WSU.

I had to work and WSU actually closed at 10 (right when I got off work), so I was under the impression that there wasn’t anywhere to game afterwards until I left. I knew nothing about it. lol.

I’ll play anyone but Chris Rose for money in 3S, MVC2, HDR, GGAC and SF4.

How much money in Marvel, Josh? I need help funding my entry to your tournament

So I unlocked a new character in SF4…it’s Mike South. I had to beat the game with all perfects and all ultras on the hardest difficulty, meaning I had to focus through everything and still not get hit and still land my ultra.

I’m gonna do a character breakdown, this guy is a fucking beast.

His jab is ridiculous it’s got a 1 frame startup so safe jumping on mike south is impossible, not only that it’s +5 on BLOCK and has no pushback in the corner. Corner infinite anyone?
He can land his super off his crouching RH and it takes like half life. Oh and his crouching RH has a 2 frame startup and is invulnerable. So cr.jab, cr.RH into super is too easy and does redonkulous damage. All his normals are fucking godlike but those 2 stick out in my mind the most.

Lets breakdown his special moves:

Mike Southouken - 236+P - Basic fireball but it has zero recovery so you can spam this shit all day. EX version Hits 5 times.

Mike Southeport - 623 + PPP or KKK - A fucking teleport. With all the good shit Capcom gave this guy did he really need a teleport? He basically disappears in a cloud of smoke and he reappears. Zero recovery on this move as well so he can do this and go into his next special move…(he also has an EX Teleport. You do it with all 6 buttons and he just disappears and immediately hits you)

Mike Southdriver - 360 + P - Oh yeah. They gave him a 360 grab. Zero startup and zero recovery. You’ll never know whether he did it or not! EX version breaks your controller or stick.

Mike Southryuken - 623+P - Dragon punch pretty much except it never trades with anything. It beats everything cleanly due to the invulnerability frames on startup, active, and recovery. Ridiculous. EX Version homes in on you and is unblockable.

On to his Super(s) and Ultras:

Super 1: Shin Mike Southouken - 236236 + P - Mike South throws a Ryu like super fireball and immediately teleports and holds you still while you take full damage from the fireball. He can combo this off of cr.RH

Super 2: Smoke A Cigarette - 214214 + K - Mike South lights a Cig and takes a smoke break. Nothing too much here. Except he blows the smoke in your face, stunning you while his cigarette heals him.

Ultra: GODDAMN JAPANESE STICKS! - 720 + PPP - Mike South tries to perform a dragon punch and fucks it up because of those fucking japanese sticks. He subsequently lets you feel the full fury of his wrath. He takes the japanese stick and pretty much beats the shit out of you with it. At the end he throws it at you and it cracks your skull.

Also he has an infinite super bar and his ultra bar fills up all the way when he takes chip damage. And what makes all this so bad is that his health and stun are 1300(more than Zangief)! This guy is too good.

All in all…this is the best character in the game. I know who I’M using at the Them vs. US! Has anyone else been able to unlock this guy?!

Sounds good. so who should I be expecting this weeked?

What did I learn from this that I didn’t already know from having played fighting games before, and from having spoken to you about this already. I understand the concept. It’s actually timing a 1 frame reversal that’s hard.

Is block stun different from hit stun for a given move? If so, would it be better to take a hit sometimes to throw somebody’s tick throws off?

Josh, I am so down for a GG munny match (why are you afraid of Chris Rose in this game?) I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it Friday though. Wanna just handle it at Them vs US? I’ll even play a secondary if you like.

I’ll MM you in 3s Josh, first to 3 for $10

Oh yeah, btw Adam, meant to give you some GG pointers from what I noticed Friday. Would have given them to you while we were playing, but I was too tired and not thinking about it.

-Learn to pot buster. I know this motion (hcb, forward) is foreign to you, but it’s a pretty common command in Guilty Gear and will be useful no matter who you play. Also, you need the same motion for “aegis” super which is a big part of his oki game as you know. Remember back dash, pot buster too. I think this back dash lasts long enough that even if you can’t do the motion normally, you can just buffer a full 360 during backdash and get a potbuster (assuming you start the 360 with hcb.)

-Learn to instant block. You’ll know you did it right when your character flashes white. This basically cuts down on pushback and block stun, so it’s a good way to squeeze a throw (pot buster) in when your opponent is trying to pressure you up close. In GG, you can block one hit of a block string, and as long as you’re still in block stun when the next hit comes, you can let your stick go back to neutral (still have to block high/low though) and block all subsequent hits. This is a built in way to encourage IB since you can basically block the first hit, then try to time your next blocks without penalty. If you’re too early or too late, you still block normally, but if you time it right, free pot buster.

-Don’t forget 6p (that’s forward+punch) for anti-air. You can cancel this into heat fist, which will lead you straight into your lockdown oki game. You can also cancel it into 2hs (down+heavy slash,) heavenly pot buster.

-Don’t forget about super jump. Pot has such limited movement that you need to rely on this a little more than you have been. Especially useful for getting around Testament’s traps. Also don’t forget about hammerfall brake for mobility. Also, you can hammerfall brake potbuster (moves forward, absorbs a hit, does great damage.)

-Flick move can reflect forward or reverse exe beast. I know it seems weird, but yes it works on the reverse exe beast. From here, you can just walk behind the big moving wall that the flick creates, remaining virtually safe from nets. You can also hammerfall brake to move in behind it if you’re afraid of trees (remember this will only absorb one tree though.) You can also super jump behind it to keep your opponent from trying to get over the flick wall thing.

-Jumping and mashing P should disable nets for free. Not 100% on this one, but I’m pretty sure. Just watch that Testament isn’t in range to hit you with his jumping S or something while you’re doing that. Also, but slam goes through nets if you don’t know. I don’t remember if you tried that or not.

-Pot’s sweep (down+D) is one of his longest range moves. Don’t forget about it.

-Cancel pokes into slidehead. Far S and standing HS are pokes I use for this with S being faster and HS having better range. Not 100% on if good Pots do this a lot since people can jump out before slidehead hits, but it will work on me at least a few times. Forward+HS into slidehead can work, but startup on 6HS is hella slow, and I usually reserve this for okizeme if I’m out of meter for aegis super. Also remember if they’re too close to just do a guard string into slidehead so that you can push them outside of a range where they can guard it.

-Don’t listen to Josh Queen.

That’s about all I can think of for now. If anything else comes up, I’ll be sure to tell ya. I know you don’t have the game and stuff, so I can’t really expect you to improve until next time we play, but try to keep it in mind if you can. Also, can’t hurt to watch videos.

Yeah next time I see Jo I’ll borrow that ^ Core copy and hit training mode. I’m starting to understand the mechanics of the game, I just need to fine tune my execution, which will take some time.

Josh I may MM you in GGAC next time I see you.

Adam, is it alright if I invite Cbus GG peeps out to your house for your thing? I sort of already told them about it because I thought you wouldn’t care, but then I realized you don’t really know them, so I thought I better ask you just in case. Each of them is easily cooler than anyone we have in Dayton, so I will vouch for them there, but still you don’t know them I guess. They’re also good at 3rd strike. One of them plays Oro.

Hey Adam do you think you’ll have a get together on a Tuesday?

For me…it wasn’t a Tuesday. Actually I have no idea, we’ll see how things turn out, I’m just gunning for Friday because that’s the day everyone says they can make it.

Hmmm… if people are going to show up this weekend for money matches, I might make things interesting. Mwahahahaaaaaa.

I won’t say anything else.

As I said, let me know if you can make it this Saturday night.

Adam answer my question on previous page.

Oh Paul and them? I think I’ve met them before but not formally (at WSU). Yeah if they’d like to come down that’s fine. Tell them to bring a TV. I think I’m going to make a giant house rules sign plastered everywhere to avoid anything breaking
