I enjoyed it thoroughly, storyline’s weak(go figure) but the fighting scenes are awesome.

The brother thing was a huge put-off for me. Out of all of them, I prefer Ip 1, fiction or not, it had a good enough story and pacing and I thought the fight scenes were great.

Funny thing is, Sammo won awards for the choreography in Ip Man 2, Tony Leung Siu-Hung didn’t get jack for Legend is Born. I wouldn’t really compare Prodigal Son (one of the best movies of all time!) with Ip Man though, we’re talking about a movie filmed in the traditional style back when the Shaw Brothers were tossing out movies like they were going out of fashion, against a film pushing more towards realism in the martial art. There’s a massive difference in how the older movies displayed martial arts, a lot of the time it looked more like a choreographed slow-dance than an actual real fight, it was very theatrical.

the fights in Ip Man 2 looked less realistic than the fights in the Prodigal Son. Remember that table scene where donnie fights the 3 masters?
with that being said, i generally do prefer modern style kungfu flicks.

Can’t disagree with that in terms of this particular scene, as I said above, every style except Hung Gar was just ridiculous, the second guy is just pure comedy with how utterly useless his martial art is, not to mention the scene has a heavy reliance on wires (which is getting super annoying in modern martial arts cinema).

I was thinking exactly the same thing, Jacky may be a young actor (Yen has 10 years on him), but he’s not exactly a newcomer to martial arts - Beijing Wishu Team since 6, what?

Yes, the Sammo Hung fight is very good, too, but the very best moment of Donnie Yen’s career is the SPL alleyway fight with Wu Jing. Reportedly shot over a single night and heavily improvised with the action between the two men - who share a master and thus are intimately familiar with each other’s fight style - turning into a contest to see who could really hit the other first. It’s fascinating to see the two men think on their feet and have to adjust as blows miss as they go at each other at ridiculous high speeds, both of them wielding weapons. Wu Jing told me in a later interview that Yen broke three of his extendable metal batons over Wu’s forearms during the shooting of this fight.

Wheels on Meels (with Jackie Chan, Yuan Biao, and Sammo Hung) has some of the best fight choreography I’ve ever seen in a movie. Loved the stuff. I’ve got some fight choreography stuff in my signature too.

i dont think the best moment of Donnie Yen’s career is the SPL alleyway fight scene. He still hasnt surpassed the second to last fight in “Legend Of The Wolf” imo.

Yeah this probably the most anticipated movie for me in a long time…I really enjoyed Merantau, i want to see what these two have in store for us…Reminds me of Hard Boiled & Die Hard!
