How can you knock on KH1âs story compared to the overall mess they have made with the series? Ansem being a normal but curious guy who got corrupted by his obsession with the darkness is way more interesting than [details=Spoiler]oh hey that was Ansemâs heartless who isnât really Ansem anyways but his heartless was just pretending to be him and is actually just part of this one guy who is possessing another guy BLAH BLAH BLAH[/details]. And that just one of the many dumb plot twists that fanboys refuse to admit is ridiculous.

You are nuts. KH1 gave me manly tears. Not sissy tears like Sora was crying for Riku in II.
It gave me tears once. I was also 10 years old, and the only thing I was sad about was the fact that the game was over which I would do for a multitude of games at the time.
I enjoy the story, and I enjoy what KH has brought me as a singular game and as a series. But from an unbiased perspective the story of KH1 was nothing special. Nowhere near close to perfect and something I wouldnât even call that good. The visuals were striking, and the score was memorable, but the story was pretty simplistic at its basic form.
Enjoy the story all you want and hate the convolutedness of the sequels all you want. But donât pretend that there was much of a story to actually âruinâ. It wasnât perfect. It wasnât great. Wasnât that good. It was fun, but past that the only reason one would look at the story as perfection is due to Nostalgia Goggles.
But again, I do enjoy it and I do not plan on stopping others from enjoying it too.

The story is Shonen stupid fun, which isnât always a bad thing. Itâs not good or brilliant, itâs just a silly excuse to get to hang out with Donald and Goofy and FF characters and go fart around is Disney worlds. Itâs not worth fighting over. Some guys like it some donât. canât believe itâs a stupid fight on only the second page, and over simply asking people not be dick heads an spoil shit. I suppose you canât see why all of this bothers me because you werenât as attached to the game, the story, and even the characters like I was. And for the record, I wasnât calling the story perfect because it is amazingly deep and deserves literary awards, but it was clever enough while still being simple and at least in my case, made me give a shit about the characters.
Actually, Iâm very attached to the game, even after the plot âtwistsâ a lot of people hate so much. But again, Iâm not going to use it as proof of great writing. Iâm quite easy to get on board and personally I actually hate having to give unbiased reviews and critical looks because in the end I think itâs a waste of time. But it does annoy me when people wax poetic way too much about KH1. It was a flawed game, as KH2 was.
Honestly, thinking back, the two console games (Final Mixes notwithstanding) were arguably the MOST flawed of the series (other than Days). Of course, KH1 would have a legitimate excuse in that case.

I need to catch up on this series. The first three games were the ones I played. Mainly I want to play Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance. I think itâs balls that Square wonât release BBS digitally.
Well when I went to say as far as a completely flawed game, I was mostly referring to gameplay.
Story wasnât that flawed, just wasnât that great. Think the buildup wouldâve worked better if they built around Maleficent being the Big Bad, rather than just another puppet of Ansem, Seeker of Darkness.
