The New Elena Thread

RESURRECTION!

Okay, a few minor questions:

Is cr.HP something to keep in mind? Looks like s.MP is overall better.

Good AA against Dudley, Twins, Urien, and the Shoto’s? I would guess b.HK and maybe, just *maybe *EX Rhino Horn or EX SRK. Failing that then SA1.

Cough.

Don’t cr HP.

Yes it can work if early anti air, if close enough and you trained them to jump out, maybe only in the corner or something. But you have better options there that can knockdown anyway.

If you must use it, learn the maximum range on their jump in approach where it will reach since its an easy parry and you’re stuck recovering after the parry too, pretty much.

It even whiffs a lot during MK-cr.HP target combo. Probably super unsafe on block too, so be wary not to go into HP even for blockstun or double up 2 in 1. But if that ever hits, you get free dash up corner push from the knockdown. And this stand MK works when you want something that is High Parry only, finally, as part of her poking game. That’s also not obvious sitting around crMP or slow and telegraphed overheads.

Edit 3rd time! Looks like stand MK is low parry too? Hah, Elena.

MP is high parry only though.

What are her good AA’s then?

I’m having some success with SA1 against Urien just because I can really punish his Headbutt. If I try to get in on Urien, they tend to either throw out a Headbutt or mash cr.LK or cr.MK to stop from being thrown.

Stand MP yeah.

Hoping you’re close enough for both hits, and not the 2nd one only.

1st hit being cancellable too, but its so quick going between the hits.
This kind of property is technical stuff nobody else has? Or just some artificial difficulty for comboing.

Urien crHP has it too then, but there’s not much utility in crHP, cancel first hit.

Never learned Urien matchup, especially punishing Tackles. Always thought it was kinda hopeless, AfroCole showed me online, don’t jump. Another player told me it was 5-5 even he thought, I should’ve asked more questions.

*Stand strong is a great aa since it hits above her head and in front of her.

Stand Jab is her most underrated normal and it antiairs excellently since it’s quick and cancelable so if someone is parry happy it’s a easy cancel into either a srk or ex mallet smash for something a little bit more tricky if you know they’re going to go for multiple parries.

Medium and ex srk is what I use if I’am going to use a dp to antiair but in similar situations where I can use a srk you can probably early jump mp->hp target combo and then apply pressure after they’re resetting in the air.

Back Roundhouse can antiair as well if they’re jumping at a range where they’re jumping from a angle where stand strong *won’t reach.

*As for Urien vs Elena it’s a match that I’m not terribly good at unfortunately. If a Urien player is headbutting all the time on wakeup use either stand strong or stand fierce->roundhouse target combo since it’ll knock him out of the air and you get to apply pressure. As for getting in on Urien it’s tough for me so I usually have to play the footsie game and go for a knockdown. Uriens stand forward is obnoxious but I believe you can counterpoke it with your own stand forward or try dashing in on it if he whiffs it in front of you. You can whiff punish his cr. forward with stand short and (I think) crouch short. In fact you can input super while doing a stand short so if you hit his foot you get sa2 but if it whiffs nothing comes out. Timing is tricky though for this.

You can stand jab him out of headbutt if you feel a headbutt coming in one of his attack strings. You can punish all of Uriens tackles even if they hit at the tip with Sa2 on block OR Ex Spin Scythe. Good luck doing this online however. Uriens tackle online is bullshit. *

*Stand Strong is 2 hits because they wanted to add artificial difficulty and another difference between Elena and Chun. If both stand strongs hits were cancelable her anti air game would be dumb and she’d actually be able to get damage from a high parriable only move. *

I figured out some of what you said by myself. Is there any use for sMP cancelling into LK Lynx Tail. I can do that consistently and it seems like an interesting gimmick.

Used to use it, very gimmicky since if you’re that close anyway, you’re better off just throwing.

Stand LK to LK lynx is slightly better. CrLk into it won’t fool anybody. And none of these are true combos.

crLK to LK SRK with help of double tap and negative edge can be useful. Something to work on. Mentioned elsewhere it goes into Super 1 also. Super 2, I would think is too slow on startup.

Oh yeah the useful part of Elena’s dash is the Dash under jumpers if they’re not meaty and you have time. That’s a different mindset of “anti air,” not guaranteed without trip guard, but part of how she takes advantage of that fast forward dash. Which DarkGeneral mentioned in other situations its not so good a dash. Still good for corner pushing on a lying body from knockdowns though

St strong into light lynx tail is ok to mix it up. It’s not very strong but it gives the opponent something else to think about since you have to high parry it and it gives you a knockdown. You can mix that up with St. Fierce->Roundhouse, delayed cr strong, throw, sweep and regular ole light lynx (don’t know the frame data off the top of my head but I believe it’s safer blocked than regular sweep). Basically* her low options are barren and she has some things she can do off of high parry only but it’s on you to mix up the timings and options to make it work.

Crouch short to dp is good for people with “dash like” moves (Urien tackle, Alex elbow, Q punchs) to pre emptively throw out and stuff them or to cash a Makoto dashing in on you. Crouch short xx light lynx can catch someone going for a high parry on wakeup if they stay in neutral or are trying to press a button for whatever reason. I forgot to mention dashing under for “antiairs” or for escaping the corner from like a neutral jump but yeah it is good for that and pushing corpses to the corner. It’s not Oro tier dash under but it’s good for switching positioning none the less. *

What is the most damage Elena can do with no meter?

there was a combo Orona (I think) did on Makoto in the corner…anti-air HK rhino horn > LK scratch wheel > cr.MP x MK scratch wheel. Can’t remember the dmg off the top of my head, but I’d imagine it’s pretty good for no meter. I think her most damaging meterless combos are just variations of her EX spin scythe combos and usually start with anti-air Rhino Horn or Mallet Smash or even Spin Scythe if timed and spaced correctly…

Any other Elenas on XBL? I hardly ever see any. Elena mirror matches rule.
