Thanks for the write ups Mr SNK! Very helpful stuff. I hope to run into you on XBL one of these days to learn from your Honda. I defintely learned a few things from getting my ass handed to me by Semitry.
I would also say on the Dictator match up is don’t butt slam too much when he has his ultra. A good bison can catch you out of the air with his ultra if he times it correctly
what about the sagat matchup
it seems to be empty ;x
Today after playing a friend of mine that secondaries Rufus, I have found that s.HP works well against Rufus’s falcon kick. For awhile I have been trying to figure out how to stop my friend from spamming falcon kick and forcing me into a block string, and then throwing me… so today I just tried s.HP, and that seemed to stop him from using that string against me.
And yes I know that ex headbutt can stop a falcon kick, but s.HP has less strict timing, at least in my opinion. Any other honda players with a bit more experience that I care to elaborate?
I erased all of the old information due to the fact of it being really out of date. I will be working on new information when I get the time. If any of the other bigheads want to give an input I’ll gladly throw it in.
You have some good freedom while fighting Rufus and if you can keep him out it’s an ok match-up. But once he gets in and starts going wild your kinda fucked.
I like to play keep-away with trading hits like you’re talking about and when he doesn’t have meter I try to sneak some extra damage in.
Sagat update has been posted. Tell me what ya’ll think or if I missed anything.
thanks for the sagat update
lol you took out ALL of my matchups info?? You even took out ABEL completely down to his name from this list! I must have really had some bad info in there lol
But I notice you left in el-fuerte and vega for some reason haha
i’ll get to work on some new ones
OK Abel,
- Roll>>Tornado throw is a popular scrub tactic. Unfortunately tornado>ochio, so you either have to throw him mid-roll, or if you KNOW he is going for it, jump up and hit him as he is whiffing it on the way down.
- HP and MP headbutt are punishable by rekka combo on block, all headbutts lose to ultra (so don?t do one when he?s standing there buffering down, forward, down, forward), and I BELIEVE that HP headbutt is punishable by ultra on block (but someone plz confirm)
- Rekka combo (the 3 hit mixup thing) is punishable by ex-headbutt after you block the 2nd hit, and by ultra if you block the 3rd.
- Careful about blocking down on wakeup, Abel?s flip kick is an overhead, and a meaty one will get you a lot of the time. Note that any headbutt can beat the flip kick once it?s started, but the headbutt is damn slow and a meaty flip will catch you unless you do EX-HB.
- You can meaty abel to death on wakeup because he doesn?t have any good reversals. All he can do is roll. Once you train him to roll, then watch for it and punish accordingly.
- Don?t abuse nj.HP too much here, if he clips you with the end of his elbow (cr.HP) you?re eating ultra
- If you want to know what you SHOULDN?T do vs. Abel, search youtube for Mr.SNK vs. Juicebox Abel
throw mid roll? no sir lol either ochio him mid roll or headbutt him towards the end of his roll
i have been waiting for this thread for a very long time. so thank you very much mrsnk.
considering im probably one of the few serious honda players in chicago, i will try to start keeping notes on matches played in arcade/at gatherings to hopefully benefit the thread without cluttering it with information already posted or known for a long time.
hondas stHP against rufus’ dive kick suffers from the same problem that dictators stHK does. if he delays the falcon kick he can avoid the attack completely
I am protesting the following normals because they offically own all Honda’s specials and normals.
Gief’s Headbutt
- I had this move beat ex/lp.HB clean over and over. It owns buttslam also
Gouken’s n.j.hp
-You can’t jump his fb’s on reaction unless you want to eat psychic angle fb’s. As a result when you delay your jump this shit beats everything clean. he can neutral jump your wake up and beat butslams and ex.HB with this move. Try to ochio his wake up looking for a counter and guess wrong > n.j.hp palm combo for 40% of yours life.
Sagats j.mp
- WTF!! This move has like 100 active frames. not only did I get my ultra stuffed by jump back j.mp, the one eyed bastard jumped in and as soon as he leaves the ground this move is out and beats my AA ultra clean. So not only do you have to make sure you don’t ultra to late and have him block and punish, but if you do it slightly early it loses or trades (in Sagats favor).
I would also like to give a big FU to Sagats s.hk, Giefs splash, Sim/Seth j.hp, Sim’s b+hk, and all chain normals.
giefs headbutt does beat a lot E.Hondas’ specials, but it doesn’t hold a candle to New Jersey Fierce. Actually, none of those hated normals you listed can beat New Jersey except maybe dhalsim knee and sagats damnable roundhouse
I find the sagat match up thread perfect, especially the last bit of advice
Yo SNK, I’ll confirm.
Abel -
HP headbutt is punishable by reversal Ultra on block.
lol i confirmed this at gamestop rd 3 i ex headbutt he blocks reversal ultras and i block, everyone is stunned lol fierce HB would have gotten owned
EX headbutt should be safe, maybe you jumped?
o no it is safe i’m just saying i blocked and noone thought at the time that it was possible abel wasnt well known back in march
I think this stuff is still very valid for the honda mirror match
- Blocked HP/MP headbutt can be punished on block w/ standing HK (If you blocked it standing up, not crouching), or ultra (perfect counter timing needed). Obviously ultra reverses it too so don’t go headbutting on wakeup.
- Ochio vs. Ochio mechanics: Ochio throws I’ve found are 50/50 if both parties go for it, so do it at unexpected times, or train yourself to jump straight up any time you think you should do an ochio, and then nail the other guy who DID ochio on the way down.
- Buttslam vs. Buttslam mechanics: who ever is on the way down has the most priority, so time the wakeup slams early rather than late.
- Headbutt vs. Headbutt mechanics: Usually a trade, but if you time an LP/EX headbutt properly (i.e. hit them at the very very start of the move) you can do a reversal. Use sparingly though because sometimes you will just eat it.
- Headbutt vs. Buttslam mechanics: Buttslam wins flawless victory
