It’s true. My honda match up really needs work…
Going off of what Jewelman said re-guarding Seth. If he has ultra and you have a huge life lead start jumping in so he blows it early and take the lower amount of damage that was you can start your assault again worry free.
i wasnt talking about you russel casse!!! lol but we should definitely play some more i was talking about vegita x  one of the more wreckless but the chances he takes are smart giefs
Thanks for the feedback. Just played a set against a Seth. Eating that ultra is definately the way to go. Baiting his neutral jump fierce and punishing with s.hp or neutral jump works well too. A bit like against sim, storing for super is worth doing-helps beat his fireballs and one hit confirmed hands destroys him. It’s not easy but not as bad as some other matches because of his health and hondas nasty damage. 6-4 to him IMO. I found buttslam pretty useful in the fight too to catch those limbs.
Any other tactics worth using?
6-4 for honda seth is way off, imo.
I feel that Seth dominates this match, he has all the tools and more to keep you out. You really have to know when to pressure and when to just stay in his face…as soon as he gets away it could very well be over.
Any good seth will wait and save their ultra for when they can lock the match down.
If you just start jumping in when he has ultra you’re inviting free headstomps via either lp shoryu, or just that ridiculous j.mp to stomps…and we all know where stomps lead to; ugly ass mixups.
careful with singular answers to the wall dive, as he can shorten the distance he goes with the divekick
random tips/ideas:
sonic booms have lots. of recovery
go big or go home. (when you CAN punish…PUNISH.) don’t miss your few opportunities as they are very far and few between
nj strong works well vs his wall jumps, i find the njfierce losing to his j strong at times
standing outside of his s.fp range and throwing c.lp’s is generally safe (thank god for that move) and is decent enough dmg vs that glasshole.
get in, do your dmg, STAY in if you can. just walk with him and stay relevant. if not, switch to defensive and take no unnecessary dmg as you’re going to want that health for his ultra. Honestly the match that will test your patience the most, imo.
good luck.
I meant “to him” being Seth. This fight is not to Hondas advantage at all - would not have asked for help otherwise.
After my set, I had another friend just try stuff in different situations with seth:
S.hp to beat wall jumps is all fine unless he uses those heal taps off the wall and you loose - and he can bring them out late so its not a given, but probably worth the risk as the damage is not great and 9/10 its a normal kick.
I find s.hk a good way to hit his s.hp limbs when whiffed.
jumping in is not the best tactic. I think once you can get into that awkward range where a bad boom can be jumped in though, neutral jump fierce works well as it makes him think about his neutral jump fierce and you can also stand and beat it with fierce.
Got to hold on to that super - it is your best bet of getting one round and making them work for the win. You hit them with one of those and they get very twitchy when you have another for sure.
yes duggish i lost count at how many pokes i stuffed from max range cr jab it was too good
lol? No shit, I meant it’s probably much more along the lines of an 8-2 than anything. again, just in my opinion, as my roommate mains Seth. We run this matchup pretty frequently.
I don’t think it’s worth the risk at all, Seth can do OK damage, heavy stun, but also gains momentum. Once you’re knocked down, he has free reign with his options to fuck with you as he pleases; and more importantly than all of this, if you lose the life lead the match just got much, much harder. Any risks you take need to be stacked so that if you guess correctly you get an opportunity for heavy dmg, without the potential for Seth gaining all of the advantages listed above. A wall dive into a full Seth combo is no good, as it’s either going to blast you much closer to the corner you really don’t want to be in vs. him, or in a nasty reset where you have Honda options to work with.
It’s not to say NEVER s.fp his wall jumps, it’s just some food for thought once you play a Seth that’s going to capitalize heavily then play complete keep away. Which includes far more than s/j.fierce, sonic booms, and ultra.
also Seth’s nj.strong iirc does well vs our nj,fierce, I don’t see many Seths use it, but then again my roommate and I have just played this matchup a lot and gone in weird directions looking for tricks…so you’re probably fine unless you see them explicitly use it
And yes. Super.
If Seth is sitting on Ultra and you need to advance you can early jump his boom (so you almost hit it on the way down) and bait his ultra out. You will be able to land before he catches you. I learned that from your roommate as well.
Good point. Can’t beleive I did not think of that. Its just like doing the same thing over Roses fireball and being able to block her Ultra.
I think i automatically do that against Rose just because I always underestimate how slow her fireballs are.
P.S. Was that you tonight Dugg?
Versus seth
A suggestion about fighting Seth:
I always block or FADC this sonic booms and always remember to block high when he is jumping in the air. I always walk (never jump) toward him enough that I can butt smash to get close. Hopefully you can recover with a short kick smash before he 720s you or throw. I find that I either go big or go home with butt slam as it is the only way to get in on him with pressure. As soon as you get in close range, most Seths start to panic like Dhalsims and they start messing up. Capitalize with nj.f up close and lots of HHS. Do Ex HHS then f.HHS to get him on the defensive and continue to butt slam and ochio when he blocks or c.jab then HHS.
This isnt guaranteed, but my win ratio versus Seth is 65%, which is pretty good considering. Just know your butt slam ranges (short kick to ex slam). DON"T WHIFF and do your slams early that he is just coming up from the ground when you land on his bald head. His shoryuken will go up your butt if you don’t time it right.
I find it tough to early slam Seth on his wake up. He can teleport, FA, EX SRK his way out of early games. I generally move close and block if I expect reversal or low short into hands/tick ochio. I play Seth conservative being that I only need a few openings to put him down. One EX hands punish combo for 400ish dmg of a wiffed SRK on his wake up and he will be more cautious which is when you can begin to press him. As already listed the cr.jab is your BFF in this fight along with his partner in crime the sgt. fierce chop.
my DICKtator problem
Now my problem…
Dictator.
I can’t seem to figure out how to beat these dictators. I have tried to do less headbutts and slams, and just tried to focus fighting him with regular moves and lots of HHS. I am very greedy with those hands too. But I really think this is Honda’s worse matchup, by far. I am sitting at a 49% win ratio versus dictators, with my highest ratios at 90% against C.Viper and 89% El Fuerte. I know I ain’t that bad, but this matchup is always the one I hate no matter if they person is sitting with 14,550 GP in a G1 match.
So I have tried both ways of being aggressive and attacking him with lots of j.mp and j.mk and even j.rh. Lots of hhs afterwards untill he starts blocking and then I switch to ochio. I have even tried just turtling the battle. And as stated above, I have tried to not headbutt unless its a jab.headbutt. I have even thrown away the option of butt slams unless its 100% safe.
Any other suggestions???
BTW, I have some dictator mains saved in my friend’s list and most of them have said that its more like a “2-8 dictator matchup.” Just FYI.
49% is really close to 50 and thats a 5-5 matchup
In addition to the great tips on page 1 of this very thread. I play this fight as I play most fights heh. D-D-D-Defensive. Bison in your face isn’t as scary as games of christmas past. There is no magic way to beat him you just need to learn what you do to punish each one of his openeing becuase he has a fair amount one you throw up the wall. He has to find an opening YOU give him to do real dmagae as well so its a fight of who “opens” first. A few examples off my head. On his LK Knee Press you are even so his cr.shorts will beat you almost everytime. Look for openings in his blockstrings to land counter EX HB. I try to watch when they start tossing the low foward.
Block his HS high, and punish deep blocked slide with jab hands. Avoid going to the air until you are close enough for cross up attempts as a crouching Bison is a big big hitbox. If you cross up crouching Bison, go for jab hands into cr.foward/f.HB to max your dmg. as it connects on his fat box. If you are controling the match tempo then you have the upper hand. Its even becuase you have trouble controling space becuase Bison is one mobile guy.
Chi-Do-Ri
Thanks man. I guess I need to start being defensive and turtle more, since my style is usually more on the offensive. Thanks for the tips and I will see if this will improve my dictator matchups.
hahaha yeah. Folks were over and was trying to go against the groans of “here comes the down back contest” when they saw the mirror. Notice what happened?
You going to Singles this sat? I’m still hoping to maybe get some matches recorded for review…see what happens
Ken matchup
Mr. SNK,
I noticed that there wasn’t anything in the Ken spoiler, but I would like to chime in to help the Honda army.
VERSUS KEN:
Stay on the ground if all possible. Only jump if you are going to nj.f and smash his pretty blonde face if you predict a jump in attack. If you stay on the ground and just pressure him with cr.jab + HHS and also EX HB, then you will notice Ken players quiver. Only do this technique for upper level Kens that rely a lot on standing.medium kicks to pressure you. As soon as you take that away from him with a few EX HBs and cr. jab + hands, most players divert back to fireballs and a Ryu style of playing, which in my opinion favors Honda.
Just watch out for some Ken trickery with his j.EX Hurricane kick crossovers. Just block them as you do his normal crossovers, but you can spot them easily as they don’t engage the hurricane kick until they are almost over you.
cr.jab + HHS should be mixed up with cr.jab + jab.ochio. Also, I have noticed if you randomly nj.f into HHS when you land, it often catches them doing that stupid standing.mk if spacing is correct. Lastly and most importantly, I just always try to nj.f predict those jump-ins and I always try to block if they are deep crossovers. Eat the throw after crossup if you have to, cuz’ its better than taking a shoryuken in the jaw. If you keep Ken in front of you at all times, that usually helps your fight in your favor.
I know all Ken’s play differently, but this should help with Hondas having trouble with aggressive Kens.
i just learned after an ochio neutral jump RH beats lariat and you can oicho gief out of any wake up GH
ooh…nice. that means that Gief matchup for me is like 10-0 Honda now. hahaha
