The New E.Honda Match-up Thread!

so jwong is now in the west coast and we are having our best marvel players play calis best reset, and now jwong is there…sooo i’m gonna make him school me in sf4 hopefully this shit gets recorded

ok…sooo i’ve calmed down and watched recent akimo vids against a zangief and where as he got empty juimp 720’d he made me realize honda is meant to turtle…i know this common knowledge but i mean i just wanna get out there and hit something so crouching jab seems to be my best friend because if he jumps in when i make that move i can still AA jab headbutt also standing RH is effective when done correctly, how do you guys punish lariat in your face besides ex buttslam?

i don’t see any reason to do anything other than j.rh, cr.mk xx fp hhs…
i forget the exact damage but i think it’s like 2 less damage with the st.rh at the end and it’s way more consistent because you don’t have to do fp to cr.lp link and it’s not character specific.
not to mention vs a fireball character i want them to be close to me after the combo, i don’t want to shoot them full screen away with a head butt.

yeah pretty much, just zone gief and play footsies with him. if he starts trying to spam st.mp, you can sneak in head butts. (don’t use punishable ones when he has meter for ex green hand)
cr.lp buffered with hands ensures you can out damage him. and as long as it’s buffered (as in not coming out when you whiff cr.lp) you will have time to anti air him if he jumps.
i’m so glad you guys finally figured out you can’t spam nj.fp vs good giefs. i’ve been saying this since the game came out.
vs lariat. you can punish with a lot of stuff but they are all totally spacing and timing specific. if i see a big enough gap, i actually try to ultra as punish. people forget that honda ultra rapes lariat as long as you do ultra after they start lariat.
you can always fp hb the end (recovery) of lariat as well. and if the spacing is correct, you can do cr.mk xx fp hhs, or cr.mk xx fp hb.
my go to vs lariat in a lot of situations is still just st.fp.

Fair point. Just been practicing it and its way easier. AS EVER JUST NEED GIVE IT TIME TO SINK IN.

hey guys check out my match with modside. good guile but personally i think he plays the matchup all wrong. i find it much more difficult against a bitch ass turtle guile

He does play it all wrong. A good Guile would have shut your buttslam game down with focus attacks and c.hp, would have killed you for neutral jumping over fireballs so close and would have followed up fireballs with s.hp or c.hp depending on range. Also a Good Guile can rape your jump ins air to air with Air Throw if they space you out correctly - he did not do any of that. Good stuff nonetheless as his execution and reactions look good.

A few tips for you. You need to manage your meter in that fight. You burn 2 bars on blocked hands to Oicho (2 bars for 200 damage) in the first round when you are miles behind and one poke or an EX Boom is going to kill you and you did not come back - only use that if its going to end your opponent! Also on the meter management, dont bother with EX heabutt unless its as an AA, punishing gaps in his block strings or to punish Focus Attacks quickly. Good Guiles in that match will send sonic booms out like a machine gun and wait for you just outside jump in range (also giving enough time to walk up if you neutral jump), its wasted bar for the chip. My view of this match is you want to have Super for the start of the second round so you can build enough back to get in the last again if you need it. I dont think you need telling about the Ultra lol.

On a side note and people here probably know, but EX heabutt beats Blankas Ultra Lol. Was looking for a counter instead of getting chipped out in a close game and after the first low hit when he pops up you can ex heabutt.

jump in medium punch stops guile in his tracks air to air

If you stick it out early.

Was planning on it…but then Eman called (under 21 so no twars singles) and we just had a practice session at my place that night.

Meanwhile, my last several matches with Akuma have been so bad (as in feeling absolutely NOT confident with that char in my hands) that I’ve dropped Honda until Twars is finished. Stupid character lock. Afterwards though, I’ll be maining the fat man…vids to come at that time. Till then, hold it down.

Recently, I just played L.I. Joe at Stonybrook University and it made me realize that top level play and XBL players are completely different. I couldn’t even get his Sagat to half life. He baited my every move, stopped every headbutt with a dp, and kept me full screen the entire time. What is the best strategy against any Sagat?

sit there in crouch full screen if you have to and jump in on the first low tiger shot (imo those are easier to jump) after that initial jump in neutral jump and crouch again lol, really everything that can be said against sagat has been said…does LI joe do anything but zone i mean if he tiger knees and it becomes somewhat predictable ex slam beats it clean mk slam trades in a good way…well at least it doesnt juggle you…i posted in the old match up thread about sagats wake up… you had to have knocked him down a few times what did you do on those knockdowns of sagat? Backdash is a good move lol block ochio is a great move cross over probably not the best option on this guy…

normals also play a big part in your corner game st fp is nice on his tall body

When I got close to him, he’d use the tiger knee block string to push me back. It was impossible to get him on the corner. On knockdown (which was only twice), I’d do for a cross up ochio throw, but he saw that coming and dp’d.

cross up ochio throw? Now i consider you a decent honda when i watch your vids from past tourneys that are on fadc but… you shouldnt try that on anyone, you can/will do better by floating around away from that RH range and sticking fierce out and really you dont need fadc unless he jumps in which my guess is he doesnt cause i know how good he is

I really don’t headbutt in this match very much outside of EX on a dumb jump-in or jump-away. For me, this match is won or lost in your spacing. Keep him uncomfortable with his position.

I can’t believe I was just baited into discussing a Sagat strat. I apologize.

It’s something new I’ve been trying against Sagat. It works online, not on him. Also, I never fadc at all, it doesn’t compute in my head. All I do against Sagat is bait a tiger shot and walk forward. So far that seems to work for me but now I need to change my strategy.

The only time I use headbutt is at close range. Some Sagats like to tiger shot after block so I jump in for the punish. Apparently he knew it was coming.

cr jab HHS if he blocks it fadc ochio once in a while but hhs works decently once your in

i played LI joe way back when he came for sbo quals…it was casuals and im sure he hasnt gotten a heck of alot better…bt yah his reaction was crazy and zoning was…well he was a good sagat. yah i would jump over low shots like jman sed and other than that js walk forward block…imo jab hands is key in that match up…ive noticed in person in comparison to online sagats it makes them uncomfy. dnt get too predictable w it cuz im 90% sure a dp will come out…once u get in close enough (easier sed than done) its all about keepin him in ur zone…st.rh will catch him off guard so mix those in w jab hands…also neutral j.fp in the area…js float around u know js dnt actually jump in once ur in range of ur st.rh.
this is js my opinion cuz no matter wat it seems like all top tier sagats play diff bt of course its still are hard ass match for honda regardless.

My biggest problem is I don’t have patience to turtle and wait for mistakes but I’m working on it. Once I stop rushing in, maybe I might be able to get wins on a top Sagat.

i play emblem lord on psn and he is another east coast sagat only he doesnt zone you he will get in your face and rape you but since he can kara TU that doesnt necessarily mean i can just run amuck but he has helped me learn to be alot smarter/safer and i can now own any texas sagat

No question. Force the fight against a really good sagat and you will rarely come out on top.
