The New E.Honda Match-up Thread!

It’s all situational really, if you think you can sneak another one in and they don’t have Ultra sure with proper timing I think it can beat out Lariat…( Don’t quote me on it.) If not you can bait the Lariat out with New Jersey fierce… Or do nothing and wait for him to make a mistake. We all play different so you just have to find what really suits your play style when riding out momentum.

I have done all those before. Do you know if lariat has throw invincibility on the first frames? I know you can make it throw invincible by cancelling pre-jump frames into lariat(up, then lariat), but otherwise is lariat throw invincible? Thanks in advance!

Yeah, you’re right. Honda should NEVER jump forwards in a gief matchup. I was just wondering about a safe jumpin after honda has scored a knockdown, since I’ve found that gief has many tools against new jersey(c.HK, c.MP, s.HK).

Bleh, double post.

Isn’t the best option to after a knock down to just run back and turtle again. Every time I attempt cross up, nj.Fierce, oicho throw, or bait a lariat, i always eat a grab or a lariat. That is why i always run away and wait for a mistake in gief part then punish.

I’m sure this is known but noticed it is not listed on the front for easier searching. (Nothing under Blanka heh)
When fighting Blanka, EX headbutt beats his ultra clean when Blanka does the ultra right up in your face, ex. a hop ultra or baited it on their wake up by walkup block. The headbut needs to hit just as hes coming down. Unsure about jab hb beating it also.

Heres a compiled list of some great vegas to fight against…let them know u added them from VEGAS LIST

Fuck Vega and Quit spamming our thread with bullshit! You want a match make a challenge. And the only Great Vega player on the planet is Makoto… Now GTFO with your garbage character.

well said! ahaha
:clapdos:

is someone trying to resurrect the old matchup thread or something? and yes fuck vega FA owns him for free…

I lost to a gief in grand finals…he could combo every time and played very safe and of course once he got in it was awful… no idea what else to do in this matchup but it needs work and i need KNOWLEDGE NOW!!

Well I’ll go out on a limb and say you played him with to the best of your knowledge. Spacing is so key in that matchup, but it still tends to play close, in footsie range. So abuse s.FP, it’s best your friend at times, and keep him away with j.FP. I really don’t have much experience with quality Giefs, but I’ve learned it’s the little things on him that help. A sudden, and great timed lp.headbutt for an AA can make all the difference. Get him on his ass and scare him a little some mix up. But, at higher levels a good gief will keep you at bay.

I played at the Smithtown tourney and I got spd’d out of a wake up ex headbutt. I did not know that was possible.
Anyways, Zangief is my worst matchup to date. I still don’t get the matchup at all.

i’ve seen some of your vids on FADC i hope you dont ever have to play aquasilk he’s pretty good lol but ya from now on i’m sitting on down back waiting for him to random lariat or jump in and just get away from the guessing game that is the ex hands combo and spd st. fp when i dont have charge and he gets in…patience is something i will only use with sagat and this hairy bastard

any of you guys good at the viper match up?

i keep hearing over and over that it’s way in our favor but it’s still one of my hardest match ups.

and whenever i look at high level competition videos, the viper usually comes out on top.

i mean i will beat most vipers still and i go around 50/50 with good ones but if this match is really in our favor it shouldn’t be as hard as it is.

any tricks to defending her mix up?

what do you guys do in this match up?

i’ve played one viper in a tournament who was garbage nj fierce works well and if she just jumps at you it seems like she floats a bit so st FP is godlike everything you do should beat her out even startup flame kick gets raped by lk butt slam so just space her and when she gets close jab ochio or jab hhs

My problem is that I forgot the match since I rarely play Zangief. Also, I’ve almost beaten Aquasilk in CTF, so I’m not really scared of him. I just hate turtling. It’s more fun to play aggressive and that is why I lose all my matches.

Is it possible to punish any version of blanka ball with fierce headbutt? I know ex headbutt works but without meter, I just eat chip damage everytime.

forward ball is punishable with fp headbutt all day on block and sometimes on hit depending where on screen ex rainbow on block should be ochio for free but ya balls are punishable the up ball is tricky to grab so i just jab HHS

High level Vipers can be a pain in the ass, and I think the matchup is more towards 5-5 than anything else. Reason is, Honda has tools to keep Viper out, and a health advantage, while Viper has a great mix-up game and a very high damage output. The key to the match-up is to not get knocked down. A good Viper will take full advantage of this and you’ll have to guess which way to block. Viper also have many ways to bait their opponents, so be wary of Viper players fishing for any jump-ins as it could lead to uppercut–>ultra. Much of the match-up strategy against Viper will be on a player-to-player basis, as Viper has many tools that offer a very flexible style of play.

Did a little bit better against IFC Gief this time. I noticed that he was waiting for my dumb ass to lose charge before he would jump in. I’ll have vids up soon.

i wanna see i wanna see! i keep missin him online…been wantin to play him…maybe ill be able to study him and be able to take a set from him =)
