Fair enough. Good post.
My only response with evidence to this is the PS3 vs 360 debate where people feel like the PS3 version is ‘off,’ and things don’t come out. I didn’t believe it til reputable players started saying as much after Evo. If shinsho is right and there is 1 frame worth of difference, then that’s really all the evidence I need for me to keep testing and watching threads like this.
That said, I do we can certaintly get wraped up in what we can label ‘lagless’ rather than what is acceptable for everyone. If we understood the difference between consumer and arcade panels a better and could easily compare them it would help a lot.
Mantle: Great post. More contributions like this would help with the usefulness of this thread.
Hey guys, I have been following this thread for a long time waiting for the right opportunity to get an HDTV. I appreciate all of the hard work that many of the posters here have done and would have liked to be in a position to contribute, but I don’t have the resources to do so right now.
I am looking to get a 32" screen at this point and mentally preparing myself to deal with what will probably be unnoticeable (to me) lag. That being said, I’d like to minimize the lag as much as possible.
My question is, as a PS3 owner, would it make more sense to look for a 720p TV rather than 1080p? I’m planning to play games and watch TV rather than do Blu-ray stuff for the short term. Or is this one of those things that simply varies from TV to TV?
I’m also guessing that there’s going to be lag from a 480p signal pretty much regardless of what I do, is this correct?
no reason to get 1080p for 32". you wont be able to tell the difference so Id go with 720p. yes 480p stuff will lag. dont expect to play standard resolution ps2 fighters.
Sweet! I’ve recommended the 32lh20 to a few people in this tread.
LOL…so it does seem that I do know what I’m talking about puahahhahah
C’mon people post your set ups!! regardless if it lags or not!!
At first I thought that the PS3 and the 360 were identical, but after playing back-to-back and using the same monitors and joystick, it became apparent that there is a timing difference. Things like balrog’s loop, ken’s #5 hard trial and etc…have different timing. That why I decided to test both of there input lags and it seem like the ps3 is 1 frame behind.
I said this before and I’ll say it again, In my opinion the best set up would be a 1360x768 monitor(most 720p sets) and a 360 running SF4 on 1280x720 or 1360x768.
that will be the closes set up to mimic the taito typex2 set up.
I want to do more test and use various fighting games just like what other people suggested but my 360 got RROD just when i was about to do some more test LOL…so that will have to wait.
You shouldn’t need a 720p display if you have a 360. The 360 will scale it so your monitor doesn’t have to. Someone should test the 360’s scaling ability to be sure, but it feels really top-notch to me. I can’t tell the difference.
I have a question if anyone has experience with this…
Lets say I am running the Evo monitor, and have a computer with a Blackmagic Intensity pro. I run my consoles through the intensity card in my computer, and output video from the card to the Monitor through the HDMI outputs (in 720p).
Would this generate any additional lag at all? As in, does the fact that the main input is through a cap card (then outputted) generate additional lag, even with a lagless monitor? I’m interested in creating some captured content not just for street fighter but many other games. I’d rather not invest unless I can know for certain it’d be a pure playing experience and not hampered by lag, even if minor.
I know there are many tournament organizers who play on HD monitors while outputting the content to a stream or recording, so I figured I’d try to see if this is a viable method.
^ it shouldnt lag but Id highly recommend haupauge hd pvr instead because I hear BIP cant record duo to ps3 hdcp copyright issues or something(probably only for movies I dunno).
haupauge has HD passthrough with 0 additional lag. records PERFECT 720p(does 1080p too). I play lag sensitive games(metal gear online) and record at the same time. also its usb so you can record on a laptop too. this is practical for tournament use. can record ps3 and xbox360 ready files(you can play the mp4 on quicktime and vlc). works perfect and worth the $200 pricetag. plus I can always sell it on ebay if/when I am done recording stuff. I can post short hd clips on my site(without youtube raping the quality) if you really wanna see how it looks.
Yeah I considered the hauppauge, but under my scenario it wouldn’t be able to work with the EVO monitor would it? the monitor is hdmi only. I’ve actually done a lot of research on this stuff, but I was kind of drooling over that monitor. I could go out and buy the PVR right now at the local store but sadly my current HD TV lags. Which is why i kinda turned back to thinking intensity pro.
Guys, I need some help. I’ve read a ton of this thread and I haven’t been able to find what I’m looking for. Maybe it’s hidden deep in the 45th page of this thread I dunno…
I’m looking to buy a new 46inch LCD (not plasma) which will be 75% Gaming Modern warfare 2, SF4, and rockband and 25% dvd movies/netflix.
I’d like to be under 1500 dollars and I’d like something readily available. What is my best option for “decent” input lag. It doesn’t have to be PERFECT but something close.
I’ve heard to stay away from Samsungs and Sonys because thier processors althogh make the picture look amazing for movies and tv are horrible for games. So I’ve heard to go with LG or Sharp (Vyper game drive?).
If you guys could help me, I would really be thankful. I’m just trying to mess up my purchase. Thanks. If you could detail my option or options with specific model numbers that’d be great.
From personal experience, I bought a sony bravia 1080p 40" lcd tv about 3 years ago or so, shortly after the ps3 came out. The TV works great to this day there’s a game mode that you can program it to so that there is no input lag. I’ve played games such as super smash bros. melee and brawl, tekken 6, mvc2, and there’s no lag. Not sure if this is helpful or not but u cant go wrong with a sony bravia :wgrin:
oh and I’ve never played on a 720p tv to be able to tell u the difference in resolution but 1080p looks amazing, going from a standard 480i tv to 1080p
TVs use the more expensive panel types that monitors use. I don’t believe there are any TN panel TVs out there, primarily because of the bad viewing angles.
TN panel monitors also have the worst image quality, but by far the least input lag.
