The difference is that its semi SF4 specific.
and like what thirytoutside said the monitor we will be using to compare to a crt is “a fucking awesome one”
This wouldn’t work. All the calibration tool does in music games is make the game anticipate your inputs slightly earlier than it graphically displays them. You can see the problem then with fighting games right?
shinshoryuken: Test the LCD display in the vewlix cabs, that is the only real way to know.
hi there I dunno if this was posted but this might be the possible input lag for playing SF4 on HDTV. I havent tried this yet cuz i dont have an HDTV but here goes
I know for sure most of my friends set their settings on the ps3 to 1080i or p but playing SF4 on an HDTV only supports resolution 720p(ps3 version). My friend told me that the bigger the resolution the more strain there is to the monitor or tv if theres strain then theres lag. I am a ps3 owner so i wouldnt know if the xbox 360 has this problem either, however my friend confirmed to me that SF4 on xbox 360 supports 720p 1080i and 1080p.
Can anyone confirm this may be the possible chance? Sorry again I dont have an HDTV to test this.
shinshoryuken: What is that?!
Your friend is misinformed. In relation to resolution, the closer the display output is to your screens native resolution, the less lag there will be. There are other factors that cause lag, but lets dismiss those for the moment.
Most TVs sold these days, typically the more expensive ones anyway, are native 1080p. I don’t know what it’s like in other countries, but here they tend to really sell that fact, so it’s fairly obvious if it is or not.
If your TV is native 1080p, the best resolution you can output to minimize lag is 1080p. The more drastic the change, the more the lag. In this case scaling to old fashioned SD (480i) would probably lag the most.
With the Playstation 3 you can choose a variety of different display resolutions, but it can only display what the game supports. Street Fighter 4 supports 480i and 720p. If you have all boxes ticked it will choose 720p. If you have 480i, 1080i and 1080p selected it will choose 480i. The PS3 does not tell you this, but it should be fairly obvious by hitting the home button while in the game, judging by the size of the icons. Once you exit out of Street Fighter it will go back to your biggest supported resolution.
The Xbox 360 on the other hand, can hardware scale the game to whatever you like, which is why it advertises those resolutions. You should always choose whatever your screens native resolution is so the TV itself doesn’t have to scale.
believe it or not that’s "the fucking awesome monitor"
too bad ive been soo busy with work that I can’t do the test sooner.
hey i got an asus vw246h, i dont even notice lag at all. its amazing for such a cheap price of about $300 aud
although i see a little back light bleed on the top and botom, is it normal for this type of monitor? or is it a major defect i hear tf panels always have bleed problems.
is there a way in settings to even minimise this issues?
Haha fair enough.
You asked earlier if there is anything else you should keep in mind. I think it’s a good idea to hook both monitors up to DVI even if they are coming from different sources on your graphics card. I’m interested to see if the type of port makes a difference like it does with big HDTVs (VGA as opposed to HDMI).
That’s if you can be bothered though.
the avenger:
Most TN monitors have some back light bleed. It’s really hard to say how much or whether you should be able to notice it though, it depends on how sensitive you are to it. Check out similar sized monitors in the same price range to get an idea.
I will be using an iogear video splitter which is VGA. This should yield a more accurate comparison due to the video splitter giving out the same source to both the LCD and the CRT.
make sense?
hello avenger,
Congratulations on your monitor. Do you have a X360 or Ps3 connected?
Do you have your system connected via HDMI cable?
avenger - can you do a test and post the results. Thinking there is no lag and there being no lag are different. You can get used to it and not notice too much until you play on a crt.
hey guys im looking for a hdtv around 30", do you have any recommendations?
So heres the deal,
Im about to buy the ASUS VH236H (aka the evo monitor) but have a question before i make the purchase.
Is it Virtually Lag free (crt like) no matter what connection i use? whether it be dvi,vga or hdmi? being that i cant run VGA becuz i have a ps3 HDMI is connection type of choice. Will my ps3 with HDMI in game mode set on the native resolution be just as effective as vga and have the promised 0-8 ms of input lag?
yep i got my 360 connected to it.
need pics on the bleed?
its connected via hdmi.
i try to research this bleed issue. i read it was because of the NXE update? and some reference level etc?
@moreadon hmm i read the 23&24 version of this asus are used in evo cuz der lag less
It does, and that was clear. I was specifically pointing out my interest in comparing VGA versus HDMI, and whether it makes a difference on smaller displays like it does with many big ones.
As I understand it, they chose to test the 23" model based on the fact that somebody had bought a bunch for ranbats and had no problems with them… that combined with a price range they were comfortable with. I haven’t heard anything about other models in the range performing poorer, except maybe the 26" one.
Either way, moreadon doesn’t have much choice, the Evo monitor is not available in Australia.
Not sure if there was a list being complied to avoid purchasing any hdtvs that have experience with lag, so I thought it might go in here.
I recently purchased a Samsung 40" LN40B640-R3FXZA and it has obvious lag. On the other side of the spectrum, my brother also has a Samsung 40" LN-T4065F and there is no lag whatsoever.
Hope this might help anyone in the future. I plan on returning mine cause it sucks walking into fireballs. If anyone has any hdtvs they have purchased and know that they have no problem with it, please let us know. Thanks!
Do you have test results that show the Samsung your brother owns has no lag?
Thanks avenger!
I forgot to ask you if it’s on 720p or 1080p?
unfortunately my monitor doesn’t have HDMI, it only has DVI and VGA.
It can easily hook up to a xbox360 and PS3.
I use HDMI-DVI cable for the PS3
with the 360 is just use the official VGA cable.
both with uber awesome image
Has anyone loked for up to date info on the commercial displays mention in the OP? I looked around a bit, but there seems to be no place to get review or lag test info on these.
