I’m about to test the input lag on my tv, and I’ve got a question. I plan on using my PC to test it with the counter app. I use component hd cables to connect the xbox to my TV, but do not have vga->component hd cables. I’m going to have to test it on the vga input or s-video. My TV does have game mode which Toshiba says removes 33ms of input lag. My question is, as far as lag goes, the vga input and component hd inputs with game mode turned on should be pretty much the same, shouldn’t they? Or should I go out and get some cables?
GOOD NEWS
Companies are starting to realize that gaming lag is very important.
LG seems to have fired the first shot with this.
I think this is the start of a new era!
I felt the strong desire to link this thread in the comments section on that link, so that those fools would understand what the monitor is for, but whatev.
Good to see such a product emerge, how good it actually is doesn’t matter as long as it’s a spark.
Nice find!
If the price is reasonable (obviously it won’t be cheap) and it doesn’t lag we may have ourselves a winner.
It’s possible, but it’s more likely that the additional image stretching is causing the 1 frame lag that SweetJohnny is getting.
Cano2k: That’s incredible news, the display has component inputs as well. Will definitely get my hands on it.
Nice, $300 is a good price for this I’d say.
Once I have the money, I think I’ll pick one up.
How are the claims about this LG monitor having no input lag any different from other manufacturers claims about “game modes” that have then proven to be false? I suppose testing of the kind performed on the Evo monitor is the only solution.
The new Samsung 23inch F2380 Professional series monitor has 8ms of input lag, so I suppose that would be excellent for gaming right? below is the pics comparing the monitor to a crt for input lag:
Its a sick looking monitor and is using the cPVA panels with a static contrast ration of 3000:1

Full review of the panel is here : http://samsungf2380.blogspot.com/
It goes for $330 on Newegg, is this the perfect SF4 monitor we have been looking for? Its not a TN panel, the only downfall is that it has HDCP compliant DVI inputs( 2 of them) so for PS3 and 360 you would need a HDMI to DVI cable, right??
How do I post the pics to show in this thread??
the author of that article confuses response time with input lag data.
Can someone just post the sentence "Response time is not related to input lag!"
every time this thread grows by a page?
people still don’t get it
Because the propaganda of the LG specifically says that it removes image processing. That said, they also say ‘instant response time,’ so I understand the confusion for people not understanding the 2ms part of the equation.
You’re right though, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if they were full of shit. Testing will tell the full story.
I really don’t understand why you would want this display. The review says that it’s image quality is bad. Do you have problems with viewing angles on TN panels?
Well we wont know for sure since testing is done.
But if you read the actual LG website it states that there is no lag from when you press a button and it appears on the screen. No lag on inputs. Im pretty sure this monitor is specifically done towards gamers. I think most of the people posting in this thread already know weepel that response time has absolutely nothing to do with input lag and we just ignore manufacturing SPECS.
If an LCD is marketed toward THAT VERY specific purpose of reducing input time, im pretty sure it will do the job don’t you think? At least we can have some hope.
This thread started with the line 2009 and still input lag. Well we are half way 2009 and if this is true we can hope that by 2010 all these problems will soon be fixed.
Weepel, i think ur the one who doesn’t get it that always makes a post complaining about something. Obviously the article is written by someone who specializes in editorial writing and knows nothing this specific about games, but if you enter the monitors website you can read more about it.
Anyone know any sites OTHER THAN amazon and newegg for good, quality LCD TV’s at really good deals? I’m not lookin for anything huge. Just something around 24 and 26’. Lag really isn’t an issue since this is just for my room to watch tv. lol
This might be the wrong thread to ask this in, but this was the closest thing to a tv thread that I found, and if there is already one I haven’t seen, I didn’t wanna create another one.
Try Slickdeals or Dealnews. Sears actually has some really good buys from time to time (especially with Bing cashback).
If I were to try to emulate the Viewlix as much as possible without spending a fortune, what would be a decent 32" lcd display? I plan on using a 360 hooked up with a VGA cable. I was thinking maybe the Sony KDL-32L5000. Or should I just buy an EVO monitor and settle for something smaller that will be lag free for sure?
I’m not actually going to try to build a custom cabinet or anything, I just wanted the same size monitor as the Viewlix has.
I’ve yet to see anybody come up with testing that tells us that a TV display of any kind is lagless. Quite a few ‘yeah this TVs game mode is great!’ but not much else I’m afraid. The Sharp Aquas series has a fairly good reputation in this regard, but there is nothing solid to back it up.
The Aquos E77 series has test results here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1148374
There are results for several monitors here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1131464
The LG lh30 (and lh20?) series has test results here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1132241
Mayflash problem
Went out on a limb and bought the Mayflash so that I could play SF4 lag free through my Bravia P3020’s vga port. To my dismay, when using the cable and setting the PS3 to PC mode I only get flickers of the xmb and the message that it’s “out of range”. Anyone else get this and is there a way around it? Would hate to think that I wasted GBP 26.
I defer to the wise minds of this forum…
I see.
The best displays are IPS panels which make sense. The utility in that Aquos thread is fantastic too. I just wish that they’d covered the rest of their bases in testing (should’ve tested against CRT screen and tested 720p).

For those looking for a list of HD monitors with a lag comparison. Not comprehensive by any means but helpful nonetheless.
