The New Definitive HDTV Lag FAQ

Component is the Red, White, and Yellow right?

I’ll go ahead and check in the morning for you though and post how I feel it compares to the VGA and HDMI.

Honestly if your monitor supports 1080p then it really isn’t THAT bad. It seriously looked like shit on my moniter but I have a feeling it doesn’t even support 720p…

My TV is 52’ and I sit about 11’ away from it when I play and the VGA was acceptable. The distance made it appear as if the image really was sharp, but once you get close to it and look at it you can tell edges get blurred when using the VGA. HDMI was tack sharp with my face less than a foot away from the screen though…

Only reason I’m stressing about the sharpness at close distance is because I’m making a cabinet in which I’ll only be about 3’ or so away from the screen. I thought I could use my 24" monitor but it’s absolutly unacceptable with VGA and unfortinatly doesn’t have a HDMI slot.

Just a note of interest there are generic cheap 360 vgas now available for around 12-20$, i ordered one recently, but be weary some have issues with lcds or something.

Nah that’s the Blue, Green and Red cables.

I would love to use HDMI, but I can’t with my old ass 360 (Go go SF4 PC?), and with my Sharp having issues with the Xbox 360 component cables, VGA may be the only game in town.

I’m hoping when Sharp calls me tomorrow that it is just a software issue, because I’ll be pissed if I have to return it and wait for another TV to ship.

Just so people know I got my brand new replacement Asus monitor in the mail and it works of course like brand spanking new. Looks great especially in the game mode where the colors come out real bright. Easy to see what’s on the screen even in the day time.

Like I said before…you can tell the difference immediately between playing on a consumer “Best Buy” tv and this one. You just gotta do something basic like jump or do a hadoken and you can just feel and see that it comes out quicker than on a standard HDTV. It felt just like the difference between playing on a standard CRT TV and an HD. I’m just glad there’s finally a screen that gives you the best of both worlds. True HD picture and lag free.

^^

You using VGA or HDMI?

^^

And also at what resolution? 1360*768?

Well not all “Best Buy” HDs are bad, my Sharp kinda feels like that, it’s nice to finally have an HD that still plays like a CRT (Go Go Vyper Drive!). Now if I could get rid of this one stuck pixel, I’d be a very happy man.

^^

+1

Maybe if your out buying Vizio or some shit like that you’ll get massive lag. I know my cousin’s 32" Vizio you can definatly tell there’s lag. But I play all the time on my LG and I don’t notice a thing.

Hell, Arcade Infinity has their Blazblue machine running off a 32" Samsung HDTV… I’m kind of skeptical about a $200 monitor out preforming something that costs 3x as much…

But I guess it’s like comparing apples and oranges so I’ll just stop there…

Edit: BTW Singh,

I only seem to have the Red, Yellow, and White cable… and I took the VGA adapter back to Best Buy today.

Hmm, that’s odd, I guess you have Core/Arcade version which didn’t come with the Hybrid cables.

Also just as an update, Sharp said I need to update my firmware to fix my random screen problem, so hopefully they send me that firmware on Monday.

I’m short on time this weekend due to my brother’s wedding crap coming up, so I may have to put off posting results for my Sharp for a bit, sorry bout that guys

Oh, I didn’t know there was a difference other than the HDD’s… But yeah I do have an Arcade version…

Good luck with your Bro’s wedding! Just hope there’s good food there, that always get’s me through them  lol

Yeah its the HDD, Cables, and Headset that make the difference between the units. They also throw in a long ethernet cable as well, but I haven’t really found a use for it yet since my router is next to my 360.

Dang, was hoping the VGA was good, just in case his firmware flops.

How far away do you sit from your TV when you play?

Because your Sharp supports 1080p and according to the back of the box of the VGA adapter so does the Cable.

As long as your not right up in front of the TV you should be good. You’ll be able to tell the difference between VGA and HDMI right away, but after you play with it in VGA mode for awhile you’ll get adjusted and it’ll look fine.

Sit usually 10-15 feet away, so it does sound like it won’t be too bad.

I really just need to get rid of this one stuck pixel, its driving me crazy lol

No, you’ll be fine for sure if your sitting that far away.

My LG’s 52" and I sit about 11-12 feet away and I was able to notice the difference, but it was far from looking bad. You should have no trouble with a 32" at that distance

I hear you about the hot pixel though, had one on my old monitor and it seriously bugged the hell out of me. Pretty rediculous how something so small can be so annoying

I’m using an HDMI cable at 1080i resolution on my Xbox 360.

Yeah, its really irritating me, that and the random screen blackout thing seems to keep coming and going, hopefully Sharp fixes this tomorrow or heads will roll. :chainsaw:

Thanks, I’ve ordered this monitor too and I hope it doesn’t lag while playing SF4 (that runs at 720p) because of downscaling (1080i to 720p)

so just want to clarify with people after reading the a few pages.

if i get the xbox 360 vga cable then i can avoid the HDTV lag but i can still view things in HD. Same with getting the ps3 vga cable.

but before i even buy them check out to see how much my tv lags by doing the calibration by playing rock band 2.

Well to be honest I am confused but I am buying Blazblue for the xbox 360 tomorrow and I want to play it on my HDTV but when I played Street Fighter 4 I noticed the lag so I been playing on my tube tv but I might go out and buy a hdmi cord so if I connect hdmi to hdmi will I still notice lag or will it be fine because I need to know if I sould spend $50 or not? I would just go with the VGA cable but there is no VGA cable input in the back of the tv. Someone please inform.

  1. No, HDMI cable won’t minimize lag.
  2. You shouldn’t be spending more than couple of bucks for a HDMI cable.

Your hope is to buy the VGA cable and hope that the lag will be minimal.
