The New Definitive HDTV Lag FAQ

Of course they are. The first post doesn’t touch on plasmas because there is no difference in how they handle lag compared to lcd sets and monitors, so there is no reason to specifically mention them.

Plasma sets are great. I sold tv’s for years and I own a plasma. The only time I would definitely recommend an lcd vs a plasma is if you plan to use it as a computer monitor a good amount. Things like a start bar and windows never move and are very bright, and you could get some image retention.

The good part is the color saturation, fast response time, and my set handles non-hd content much better than most lcd sets I see, so I made that trade off. It’s up to you and what you do with it.

ahh, thanks man that cleared some things up for me.
i think we’re leaning towards the plasma, thanks again for the info/help guys.

Very nice setup:rock:

Hoping for a recommendation on a good VGA adapter for PS2.

Or if anyone can post a comment regarding the HD Pro Box mentioned in the 1rst post.

Appreciate it!

I’ve got an old school xbox 360 that doesn’t have HDMI. Any suggestions for a converter or cable to cut down the HD lag I have? I’ve got a Panasonic Viera plasma and I have 40+ ms lag…

I think i have decided on buying the benq 24" wd monitor seen here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014173

I saw some reviews posted here saying it has very minimal lag. I would be playing with a ps3 over hdmi and I was just wondering if anyone has this monitor and setup. I wanted to know if anyone has done a lag test with it and how their experience has been with it. I know there are online reviews of it but i trust this community more because i will primarily be playing sf4 and kof12 when it comes out on this.

Thanks for any information

hey guys, i’m in the market for a new tv and i don;t want to spend too much so i was wonder if this http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/detail~dpno~7773760~Action~READREVIEW~Redir~1~process~preview~reviewId~4978~actionId~getSpecificReview.asp#reviews

would be a good buy

Do anybody know what kind of monitor/tv they used for the Gamestop US national championship? Not the ones on the booths but the one they use on the stage.

We should have an actual list of recommended TVs/monitors that have near-0 to no delay at all.

where would i find another tv like the one the tc posted, the view sonic link says product is not available or something like that, id be willing to buy another one simular, can somone direct me?

totally agree with this guy:sweat:

Danmartigan (or anyone),

I never fooled with the xbox 360 display settings.

If SF4 is to be played on 720p. What resolution should I set the Xbox 360 to? Thanks for the help.

(Xbox 360 connected via VGA cable to a 24 inch monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1200)

Agreed.

I’m trying to find a 32" LCD to use in building the www.donovanmyers.com Vewlix and want to get the TV closest to lag free at the best price.

Especially since every day sites are posting crazy deals on TVs (Such as today’s, courtesy of dealnews: http://dealnews.com/Toshiba-32-720-p-Widescreen-LCD-HDTV-for-470-free-shipping/292044.html?ref=consumerist-20090421)

Are the internal scalers of the Xbox 360 and PS3 lag-free?

I’m still trying to find answers in the 42", sub-$1000 range set market. Answers are hard to find.

I can definitely recomend my monitors for lagless HD play, though. 24" HP with a native res of 1920 x1200…I got 4 ms in the rock band test @ 1080p through my 360.

Warpticon,

What resolution do you have your xbox360 set to?

If lag varies so much from model to model we should really start compiling a list of HDTV’s/monitors that are found to be SF friendly (although as it seems the suggested tests rely on the accuracy of the testers reflexes so I can understand how this would be less than perfectly accurate).

I did a quick search for the digital signage monitors described in the OP and came across this Samsung 320MX. Not the cheapest but if it will guarantee me lag free gaming I just might purchase one.

Yes, I have this monitor. It has minimal lag(1 frame or less). However, you should keep in mind:
[]PS3 will not upscale SF4(max 720p) to 1080 and therefore needs scaling.
[
]G2400WD is 1920x1200, you will have black bars if you want the the correct aspect ratio
[]G2400WD is not 720p monitor and will use its scaler to upscale to 1080p
[
]TN panel, so kinda sucks except for speed/price. viewing angles aren’t so good.

There is a new model in the G24XX series out now. Maybe better, maybe worse. haven’t seen a review.
I haven’t done any lag tests and I haven’t seen any online that specifically test delay with this monitor when scaling a signal.

It’s set to 1080p.

Thanks Warpticon!

Which HP monitor do you have (model #)?
