the VH line …there is no difference. just a bigger panel. same hardware inside.
I’m having quite a hard time understanding display lag for my tv; the only way I could test is by using DJ Hero 2 calibration (which I seriously doubt accuracy cause it requires my inputs and I suck at dj hero). My tv is a Panasonic TH-50PZ85U and I’ve read somewhere that it does have a display lag of ~30ms, but the results I get is different.
All tests were done by connecting through hdmi at 1080p, but differs in picture setting (one ‘standard’ mode and the other ‘game’ mode).
So far I got…
Standard
Test 1 29ms
Test 2 24ms
Test 3 3ms (??)
Game
Test 1 31ms
Test 2 10ms (??)
I thought about buying component cables for the PS3, but I really don’t want to degrade picture quality. Also, I can’t really trust the accuracy of the calibration tests. Does anyone have experience with TH-50PZ85U?
Posted this on another forum…
Okay ran another test at 720p resolution. As much as I tried, I could not get it to clone in 1080p. Both of my alternate monitors couldn’t do 1080 so I was forced to do 720p with a crt.
I still got some good results. Still got a range of 0 ~ 30 ms of lag, but it mostly averaged 10 ~ 20 ms this time around, which is an improvement over the vga test I did earlier.
*I do not recommend buying this tv. I feel that it is just a waste of money considering it does not produce an accurate image for pc use. The colors are really washed out and darkness/contrast levels are out of wack. It is NOT correctable from the given controls.
How do I go about getting a proper setup? I used that flash based timer and had 2 issues. My crt wouldn’t do my tv’s native 1080p resolution, and the timer seems inaccurate due to the fact the last digit of milliseconds doesn’t change. Any thoughts?
Does anyone have the better timer that OP was talking about in AVS forums post Input lag wars!, post your input lag results of your LCD display here for refrence - AVS Forum ? I pm’d him\her but did not get any response.
It runs Mahvel/any other PS3 game perfectly.
The colors are fine.
Well… I guess I should stipulate the ***TC-L32C3 ***runs them perfectly, without crapped out colors.
I didn’t have a problem going into the C3’s control panel, and getting my colors to a satisfactory calibration.
I am not using it as a PC monitor… never planned on using it for such - just for video games.
You DO have to select Game Mode, on the C3, when setting it up for playing games.
Did you disable A.I. Picture Setting, and then play around with the settings yourself?
Also, it must be noted, again, the U3 is, in fact, a native 1080.
Whereas the C3 is a native 720.
I find it odd that they hid the option to keep the U3 in 720 so “effectively”. Hopefully it exists :\
As I see it.
What is the reason for wanting the TV to be 720p native? Ps3? (i think I read ps3 720 and xbox is 1080 but I could be way off here)
@solid: Most games only output at 720p at best and scaling costs time, so having a 720p TV is usually better than scaling on a 1080p TV.
If I have a tv that is 1080 native, and I set my xbox to output at 1080, doesn’t it do any scaling and whatnot on the xbox? In that case any processing lag would be on the xbox and not on tv?
This is correct, all scaling is done by the xbox. It’s the ps3 that would cause you problems if you set output to 1080.
So let’s have the tourney standard be ps3! It makes perfect sense…derp.
The game mode is in the viera tools button on the remote control, and I also got random lag on the hdmi 1 port but none on the hdmi port 2 so you should try that, also see if you can exchange the tv because mine looks fine.
So I guess the L32C3 is the best tested 32 incher so far with 0-2 frames of lag give or take. Coming from someone who will use this on an arcade cab, 720 is good enough. I’m fine skipping the U3. If I wanted to play games that can go up to 1080, I’ll just play them on my larger laggy TV. Otherwise, fighting games can go on the 32 incher.
I just want to see how the X30 performs, considering it’s supposed to be 2011’s X1. With the price on the C3 right now, I can justify buying that just to replace my X24, but I’m willing to wait for someone to test the X30 for it’s IPS Alpha panel.
the c3 is apparently ips alpha also according to the box, if you look at a past picture posted by clu2.

Yup, hence the excitement with the 2011 line. X, U, and C models were all IPS Alphas.
Been looking to upgrade my main tv to a larger screen, something in the 55" variety. Wondered if there’s any pros/cons between lcd/led for gaming, or any particular info I need to know outside of aiming for a model with low lag.
Look up AVSforums. Usually they do lag tests with every new model that comes out.
You can also do it yourself if you have a CRT.
LCD/LED makes no difference for the most part. Some people say LED screens are worse, but it really depends on the panel. IPS alpha panels seem to be the best for lowest lag. Although not every panel is the same. Look up tests. Or buy from a place where you can return if you’re not satisfied and do your own tests.
55’ screen… wow you have a huge house!
EDIT: Never ever trust anyone that says a screen is lagless unless they have footage to prove it!
im holding out on those new toshiba cell processor lcd
Already returned the first set to see if I had a lemon. The 2nd set was sharper but still terrible for pc use and the colors are the same (washed out). I tried everything to correct it. It could just be my preference, but the color just doesn’t look right to me… As for that “game mode” you’re talking about, it’s just presets that save color/contrast/brightness/etc settings to make the screen brighter. I took the pictures in “game mode” if that makes you feel better though :). But it didn’t seem to improve input lag.
Too bad I have no problem with the image or the random lag, maybe there’s a difference with the 32" and 37" models
How is ML238H compare to the vh236h?
