i know im like four years late and shit, but ive been playing a lot of mvc2 lately (because im stationed in the middle of nowhere with no car), and it’s really fun and i want to get better at it. my team right now is mag-prj/cable-prj/psy-aaa. i have a pretty decent grasp of the assist system and screen control, so now im trying to step up my tactical understanding to a more intermediate level. right now im trying to improve mag more than anything because i can do the standard mindless runaway/snipe xx ahvb trash with cable already. with mag im having trouble consistently triangle jumping, psy-assist, c.lk, c.hk -> hypergrav, the launch blalalbal hypergrav xx tempest combo. are there any tricks to acquire better consistency for the shit im trying to learn with mag right now, or would i just have to practice more? also, if yall know of any sites that host quality mvc2 matches (old or new vids) pls let a brother know.

Because we share almost the exact same name, I’m going to help you out. The very first thing to do is get out of your CvS2 mindset. This is key both mentally and physically. Mentally in that pokes don’t mean much in Marvel, so don’t try and poke someone excessively because you’ll get just get by an assist. Physically for example, in the way you approach pressing buttons (you should almost ALWAYS be pressing multiple buttons at any given time in Marvel, very unlike CvS2 barring RC bullshit. Not TOO different from TTT, since you’re familiar with that).

Secondly, execution is key. I don’t care whether it’s AHVBx3 or a magneto infinite, practice, practice, practice. That is what training mode is there for. Practice your necessary (don’t try and get fancy too soon) combos in practice mode so you can land them in real games. Check old threads in the MvC2 character specific forums to find useful info.

Lastly, the best way to gain tactical knowledge of the game is to watch players better than you and to take note of what they do that works. Whether through videos (a decent place to start might be the Boston MvC2 videos thread in fighting game discussions) or just by watching other people in the arcade, as long as you’re watching good players play, you’re getting better.

That’s pretty much it as far as basics of learning Marvel. If you have any questions, I’m sure most of Boston MvC2 “crew” are willing to help answer them…although probably me moreso because I know you personally.

P.S. Get Kenny into Marvel, goddamnit.

hopefuly when capcom fighting jam comes out. you fool’s would stop play that gay ass game? ( mvc2)

haha, yea, like danny said, bump.

i took down old matches, but if you really wnat mag specific ones i could dig around, but for mags questions, SBCDYN = the source on mags
IF you ever watch his MSP in action… :wow:

cool thx for encouraging responses guys. commy, didnt you used to have vids of matches between you and jwong on that site a while back? id like to dl some of them if you still have.

anyone, gt friday night? can’t stay too too long, might have to go at 10ish or 9ish, so i’ll be there earlier.

Anybody want to play cvs2 at MIT arcade? I’ll be there at around 7:30 or 8. Bring your A game . . .

Capcom Fighting Evolution/Jam is coming out. Time to come out of hiberation and initiate beatdowns :()

Did they end up getting CFE at GT yet? The PS2 one is out Thursday(AND Metal Gear Solid 3!) I’m wondering what the word is on this game…

-steve-

CFE, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Half Life 2. It’s too much I can’t handle it.

Played CFE, it’s not too bad. I don’t think it contains depth that comparable to CvS2, but the game is more old school. Damage level is pretty high.

did they alter block stun to the point where tick throwing is a lot harder? I’m also curious about the non jedah characters…

It’s harder to throw people in this game. It’s 3S system, (control/command grabbing), I personally favor it over the standard throwing system. I’m kinda pissed that the alpha chars didn’t get command air throws. SF2 guys are very straight to the point, nothing fancy, high damage, old school. Alpha/Darkstalker chars + Warzard ninja definitely have room to grow in re: tactics/trickery etc. I didn’t really touch any of the 3S guys so I don’t have any input, I just know that bitch Chun-Li’s SA2 does shit damage now.

3s characters arent 3s characters anymore…u gotta play them totally different…which is good and bad…but anyways, if this game doesnt come to gt, there really isnt a point to play it…the only way we can get to higher levels is to play ppl…i sure as hell am not gonna waste time playing the ai and andrew doesnt like this game at all, so i got no comp…no comp = no motivation…

3s forever.

Ernest and Grundle, great games, thanks for helping breathe life into that old CvS2 machine. They replaced the sticks with brand new ones, much to my surprise. Hope to see you guys around more, not only for CvS2 but fighting games in general. -Chief

after having played CFE, I’m seeing that the DS characters are grossly ahead of the game! A ST character vs a DS character is a pretty hefty matchup. Haven’t messed around with any Warzard characters yet, noticed that Guy wrecks my shop when I’m Rose,(as he should, I suck with that char.) And I can’t seem to link Chun’s cr. MP to super…I think I’ll go work on that now…
(and it’s pretty hard to grab a char. w/Alex after qcf punch…)

they got CFE and #R at GT?
