This thread is mainly directed to people in Melbourne, Australia but it’s really open to anyone. So, how many people do we have here? Me and some people are going to be hosting monthly tournaments from around December with $500+ cash prizes up for grabs and I’m just interested to know how many other players from Melbourne (or anywhere in Aus) we have on the SRK forums and how many are actually interested in attending the tournaments? The definite games that will be there will be Street fighter III: 3rd Strike, Dead Or Alive 4, Tekken 5 and King Of fighters 2002/XI. There may also be Guilty gear, Smash brothers Melee and Garou: Mark of the Wolves there too. If we decided to do $100 for each game ($50/$30/$20 split) to start off with I’m wondering how many people here would be interested? At first we’ll probably start small but I’m sure it can grow into a huge tournament with larger prizes. But at the moment the total cash would be probably $700 at most. But this is coming out of my pocket and my friends. The tourny will most likely be $5-10 entry. So, anyone interested? :wonder:
Sounds good… I presume these are console tournaments? Up until this point we have only had 1-2 console tournaments for games like 3rd Strike in this country… mainly due to the fact that there is still arcade scenes in both Sydney and Melbourne that cater to 3s. However, with those cash prizes you mention… I am hopeful it will encourage some of the Melbourne 3s scene to come out and play despite the fact that it is a console tournament.
You wont get many if anymore responses here, the majority of the Aus SF community does not post on this site apart from the infamous eKiN (!)… check out the Aus version or SRK: http://www.ozhadou.net - you will get the feedback you seek there.
As TSC said, very few Melbourne SF players post on SRK afaik. There’s a good number of 3S players in the Melb arcade scene, and they include the best players in Australia. (Top 3 from the OzHadou Nationals in July are all Melb residents.) Check out www.ozhadou.net to track down other Melb SF players. Our site also has some people that play the other games you’re looking at running, but not many. You can find them elsewhere if you know where to look. E.g. I know there’s a group of Melb Tekken players that have their own board somewhere online. Try looking around in TekkenZaibatsu as well.
As for console tourneys, I’ve helped run about 4 or so in Sydney (with moderate success), but I’m pretty sure there’s never been a significant fighting game console tourney in Melb. I hope you do go through with your plans. The Melb SF community is mostly arcade based, but with guaranteed cash prizes on the line, the players might be tempted to come out and play console. Post your plans on OzHadou and see what the interest is like.
So yeah, the main reason you don’t see much in the way of Aussie threads on SRK is because we all hook-up via OzHadou. But we are out there, so please check out our site and share your plans with us.
I’m going to be trying to form some interest in forming a console SF3 get together in Brisbane sometime soon, since there is only one 3S machine in Brisbane at the moment, and the techie that used to fix it for us is gone. Haichii doesn’t have much time for that sort of stuff anymore.
I’m going to be trying to get the details of the regular players I see on the arcade machine to try to get some good player action going, perhaps try and form a bit of a better network among the 3S players, since the players up here are of the hermit breed.
Any players who frequent 3S and are able to get together for a day of console 3S in Brissy, PM me.
You really should post this on our forums, as you know… hardly anyone from Aus bothers with SRK.
