The New Akuma Match-up Thread *Recent Update*

You actually played that fairly well. If you didn’t drop so many combos you prolly would have won.

A couple of things - learn to block Rog’s overhead. If you can block that thing 90% of the time alot of Rog’s damage potential is down the toilet.

Learn to punish TAP. Akuma can hard kick tatsu TAP on reaction most the time. So if the Rog avoids fireballs with TAP, you get free damage. Also if you expect a TAP after a slow fireball at that long distance, do a light kick demon flip into kick for a full combo.

^wow that tap punish is getting put in my game asap…I never thought to punish tap with dive kick. Great demon setup on that second round Nica. Also though the difference between 360 and PS3 is around 1 frame or so per minute not a difference that can be noted it’s probably the TV difference you need to get used to.

no i said it was the stick

it was a TE stick which is something i wasnt used to compared to what i use on my ps3…its a different stick and gate

i get used to the TV differences easily

oh gottcha…yeah different tvs fuck up my loop timing but outside that I do fine as well. You should pick up a 360 te and dual mod it so you can do both.

yea that came to my mind after this past battlefield arcadia tournament i went to

unfortunately that is where money comes in and itll take time lol but back to match ups

Solid Akuma, just looks like you were thrown off by your own execution mistakes. You definitely had him otherwise.

anything to know vs Dhalisim

i played an average one yesterday and for most of the matches i felt i was playing the wrong way

some lil things he did were rly weird like teleporting behind me (for some reason i fell for it so many times -___-) but i started to stuff him out using st.lp…idk if theres anything else i could use as far as normals go…i know i can SRK that too

1 thing i did notice was that he’s no good up close…the least he was able to was to keep me out with low lp,lk and slides but other than that if i got close to him…the match was over

plus i never attempted to land a demon when he jumped in…i would like to know if its easier to do it than other characters due to his long reach

if he jumped back HP it was a free ultra

little things from my experience vs sim

Crouching HP xx demonflip.

Save meter for ex demon flip. Sim’s fireball recovery is slow and you can react to a yoga fire with the demonflip palm strike for a hit everytime.

Don’t bother for the most part. His air port make that strat weak.

Basically the only place where demon is good to use outside of confirms and saves.

I found something nice while dabbling around in training mode yesterday. I hope this hasnt been mentioned already.

While practicing AA demon against Goukens demonflip divekick, I noticed that if you time your cr.mk really late, Gouken will land on your other side. While hes recovering you can (crossing up, mind you) cr.lk to BnB. Gets more damage than SRK or cr.hp if you dont have a demon up your sleeve. For me cr.hp trades with the divekick more often than not, I find it kinda hard to time in this case.

I only tested it against Gouken though, theres probably some more applications for this.

edit: Hm its not about doing the cr.mk late, but rather at a point where Gouken will fly right over your head. Its still gotta be a little late within that window, because otherwise hell just cross you up. Works best if he does EX flip, or does the flip pretty deep.

Yeah West and I were testing this out, at one time we thought that a late cr.MK was an answer to every single demonflip option. But we were wrong of course, it’s not nearly as awesome as it seems. Works on akuma’s demonflip as well.

Okay so, once again Sagat is driving me fucking crazy.
I have tons of top players videos but i’d like to know if anybody could arrange a selection of top akuma players facing agressive sagats. Tons of fireballs and approaching with safe knees.

And how to deal with that.

Thx !

Block knees high.

If the spacing is ample, you will be able to reversal and slug him for free as the push-back from high blocks isn’t as far as from low.

Mix your fireballs up with heavy redballs and jab redballs in addition to regular fireballs. This will throw him off in terms of reading them (all redballs look the same) and allow you to break down his comfort zones behind fireballs.

I find x-up tatsu invaluable against Sagat. Also learn to s.hk loop his ass. Even if it doesn’t connect, a blocked s.hk allows you to mount up pressure and maintain offensive momentum.

Been doing that so far. But when a good sagat starts to just AVALANCHE you sometimes things get really tough man.
I was looking for more specific ways. Or only time will teach me to handle everything.

The loop is already down on point ! >D

be very wary of the range you throw fireballs, he can kara TU under them from farther than you think most of the time, and even if it trades it still sucks.

The Sagat matchup has become a lot more comfortable for me since I learned the s.lp -> s.rh link. Being able to go from a random crouching short into roundhouse loop is definitely a nice asset for Gouki.

Downside is eating ultra or TU in case you mess up. Which opens up new possibilites in terms of baiting reversals though.

I am really “feeling myself” regarding roundhouse loop lately. Offline I am pretty good, online…well. Who cares about online anyway?

Same here. But its just so rewarding, both gameplaywise and psychologically. Even if its a big risk online, I cant help but going for the loop every now and then haha.

Pretty much when I fight Sagat, Abel, or Guile I always put myself into harms way just to do roundhouse loops. It loses matches but that’s not really the purpose of those matches at that point anyway.

I find the sagat matchup a lot easier than ryu…i mean, you can pretty easily toy with him once you get your first knockdown, his TU sucks and will get stuffed by a lot of your moves (you can safe jump it, demon flip dive kick, xup tatsu).

Mix red fireballs with normal ones to keep him away, and once he’s in use c.mk to duck under his TK (hard to do online tho)… poke him away with s.hk and if you ever hit him with it do the loop or simply bnb into sweep…now you can start annoying him as you please, after stuffing his TU a few times he’ll finally start to block and now you can use df throw or ambiguous crossup or whatever.
Just watch out for the random TU fadc ultra when he’s got meter

Honda is a bitch

throwing fireballs and timing divekicks is all i can think of to beat him.
When he jumps up and does HP i can use st hp to knock him out of the air…other than that anyone know anything else on dealing with honda

plus i hate how he can EX headbutt me out of cross up tatsu
