Do you guys think Hulk would benefit more from an overhead assist or a low assist? Hulk can easily scare his opponent into holding down/back, so I think an overhead assist would really help him open people up. Thoughts?
@Riot55: Team specific questions about synergy are difficult to answer until we actually get our hands on the game. However, it’s a well known fact that Hulk has a super for every DHC situation you put him, making him very versatile in that respect. I heard that first from Keits, then Haunts.
I think an overhead assist is better for offensive purposes, however if he can in fact jump cancel his forward dash then a low assist will be a huuuuuggeeee benefit. Also, low assists will possibly have more combo uses since most of them can OTG. AFAIK Hulk doesn’t have any OTGs besides Gamma Wave/Tsunami. Finally if he can use his forward dash to hop over crouching opponents then a low assist will be great for offensive mixups.
Speaking of overhead assists–who actually has one besides C.Viper? She’s the only one I can think of.
You’re right, it retains its overhead properties as an assist as well, and that was the exact assist I was thinking of when I posted.
Edit:
@Bronzfist, you make a really good argument for low assists, I’ll try both and see what’s up. Felicia is really versatile because she has her Rolling Buckler that hits mid, then low. I’m also definitely looking to extend combos and maximize Hulk’s damage, so a low assist sounds invaluable.
Nice, also looks like he can combo OTG off air grab. I’m guessing a lot of characters will be able to do that. He did air grab, Joe’s Shocking Pink assist, Launch. I wonder if you could use Dante’s Jam Session for a similar effect.
Heh, that’s why I watch all the crappy vids. Even when people are randomly mashing you may end up getting some new info.
So far, yea both his standing and :h: have super armor. He might have more. People are reporting that Sentinel has super armor on three of his normals (standing M, crouching M, and his launcher), so it’s possible that Hulk has some more. Maybe one of his crouching attacks?
Yea I know for sure that Hulk can Gamma Tsunami OTG after his :f::h: air grab. Good to know he can use OTG assists as well!
Skrull’s Tenderizer assist comes in at an upward angle actually, he’s using the :h: version. It lasts forever, but due to the angle, characters with small hitboxes like Ammy and V. Joe can just crouch to avoid it completely. Better choices for covering Hulk’s st. C would be Chun’s Lighting Legs or Doom Rocks (my personal choice), but you also have assists like Dante’s Jam Session, Arthur’s Fire Bottle, Dormammu’s Dark Hole, Hsien-Ko’s Pendulum, etc.
At the same time, don’t forget that Hulk’s st. C is special cancelable. So if you have good reaction time and can visually confirm that it was blocked, just cancel into A-Gamma Charge and then charge away from your opponent to make it safe. Hulk can cancel a lot of his normals late, so that slight delay might cause your opponent to flinch and your Gamma Charge might even hit them!
I completely overlooked all of the really short characters. Now that I think about it, Skrull needs a lockdown assist just as much as Hulk does, and Hulk kind of wants an assist that OTG’s. What about Fire bottle?
Only problem is that I’m not sure if Super Skrull’s OTHER assists are any good, and tenderizer is apparently an “Awkward” ant-air, so I might have trouble supporting Arthur and his low health and movement speed.
Skrull’s A-assist, Stone Smite, hits OTG. But I don’t know if it’ll be good for extending combos because it sends your opponent across the screen.
My team is X-23 / Hulk / Doom. I’m using X-23’s Ankle Slicer, which hits low to augment Hulk’s mix up game and OTGs for combo extension. With Doom I’m using Rocks of course, for lockdown and chip (even though chip was nerfed).
Played Hulk for a few hours myself last night, he’s much better than MvC2 hulk. Faster, does a nice chunk of damage on combos, seems to have better stamina (don’t quote me on this). Anybody want anything specific tested out, I’m going to play it again tonight, post up
