The most obscure fighting game?

I didn’t think Cyberbots was that obscure really. I mean, it has a character in MvC2.

Try Fighting Masters… I actually played the shit out of this one.

There is another fighting game on the genesis where you can play as a sumo wrestler with a mouth on his stomach. I think you could also play as like a spider or something stupid like that. Big props to anyone who can find this game. Pretty sure its just a Genesis game.

Yeah, that’s Slaughter Sport for the Genesis, known as Fatman outside the US and released under similar titles for the PC and C64.

Kitsune: What an HG101 topic, eh?

I have two games I can think of I have only seen once in arcade and cannot remember there names.

The first one is set up like a Karate Tournament. While you have life bars and deal damage like any normal fighter, it also makes a big deal out of knockdowns. Whenever you knock your opponent down with a sweep or whatever, the ref separates you and you are both standing at the starting positions again. Kinda like the old Classic Karate Champ. All of the characters were pretty normal and fell in as certain Martial Arts stereotypes. I seem to remember a Sumo. I am pretty sure there were no fireballs. The whole game tried to pass itself as a legit and realistic Karate Tournament. Except for the character which was a blatant copy of the Terminator (including being a cyborg) In fact, I even think they pallate swapped him and there was two of him.

I give some credit to the Knockdown reset idea. If they were having trouble making the game balanced once people were knocked down (to easy to pin and lock people down) then it is an easy fix and fits the whole Karate Tournament idea.

The second game was also kind of strange. It used real actors like mortal kombat, but seemed more of a ripoff of the SF live action movie game than of Mortal Kombat. I am pretty sure it had 6 buttons like SF and seemed to have SF style gameplay. I recall a stage which seemed to be a wasteland but full of broken computers and such. The character I used had a few moves which were Hurricane Kick ripoffs. He could do it at mid height and i recall a low sweep version. When he did it they used really cheesy old school blur effects on him. I think he wore army fatigues.

I found it interesting, because seriously who copies a game which is based on a movie of a game. General rule of thumb : Movie based off game usually not very good. Game based on movie usually not very good. Game based of of Movie which itself based off of a game does not have much chance of being decent. Ripoffs of games are also horribly bad. So if you rip off a game which is based off of a movie which is based off of a game you really have no hope of success. And thus I would not be surprised if my corner store was the only place it ever showed up. And I saw it there one week and it was gone the next. The first game in my post I at least saw it two weeks later at the same arcade.

I remember Martial Champions. Irony is I was trying to remember that game myself and had just Youtubed it earlier today when I finally remembered the title. I saw it once at the arcade at UBC in Vancouver after coming back from the nude beach there. Chaos (the tall Egyption princess in wrestling boots who throws diamonds) always stuck in my head. The boss in that game has everyones moves (which I think makes him the only character in a fighting game to do this without either shapeshifting or changing styles, kudos in a 2d game) The stage for the guy who looks like Heidern is actually really well done. Looking at this game again after all these years and it looks like a bad copy of TMNT Tournament Fighters, and I think the sounds are recycled between the two games.

Is the second game “Survival Arts”?

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9983

The first one sounds kinda like a mix between Buriki One & Fighter’s Destiny 2.

The most obscure? It must be finding such games by chance and yet can’t find them on such established sites like KLOV.

cyberbots is amazing, and i want it to hit GGPO so that i can beat people in it. The game’s prequel is armored warriors, and it was a lame beat-em-up

as far as that fighter that you’re talking about… ive’ played it. i remember using “tiki” and being like… “OMG DADDD DADDD IT’S VEGA FROM STREET FIGHTER DRESSED LIKE THE GUY FROM SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER!” fond memories…

Survival Arts sounds right…still no clue on the first.

Ironic how you mentioned it right after Daraku Tenshi was brought up; it’s Psikyo’s first fighter: Battle K-Road.

lol, is that elephant straight outta dhalsim’s stage???

Deadly Moves on Genesis.

It was called Power Moves on SNES. I only ever played it on Genesis though.

Waku Waku 7

WeaponLord on the Snes.

This game was awesome, chick riding on the back of a giant rabbit thing, maid bot and a dude with a tank?

Fun game.

For obscure, Time Killers, it’s in that obscure emu thread link posted earlier, pretty bad, but entertaining for at least an hour.
