The most balanced fighting game ever

HnK is not balanced in any way, and this comes from someone who loves the game to death

I’ve heard accolades all over the place for Arcana Heart 3’s balance.
I’ve never played it, though. Can anyone ‘confirm’ this balance?

UMVC3. Everybody dies after 1-2 combos in this game. That makes it balanced, right?

Its only fair in the sense that EVERYTHING is broken haha. That game was so borked! All those weird bouncing combos.

At least it was still pretty damn awesome from a HNK fan’s standpoint. The source material was well represented.

LOL you must not have played the first year sf4 came out, most did not have sticks and it was on a level of horrible for a long time, not there fault. now after 3 versions everyone still playing is good…now i lose all the time . But since i only usually play a couple days every couple a months threw all versions, i should not get 1 win

Before online patches people dealt with the fact that some characters had better bullshit than others, or they learned to overcome it.

Now with the advent of online patching the fighting metagame keeps getting thrown out the window every time a developer listens to a whiny fan and nukes every character.

I’m not saying that we should go back to the old days, where people had to deal with some messed up stuff, but this new age of characters being changed every month really doesn’t feel right with me.

Also, I want most characters to have some ridiculous stuff, like Urien unblockables or stuff like Ryu’s side specific V-ism combos. It made the games feel alive and not some mediocre shit we get today.

Patching would be fine if it was 95% making shitty characters better and 5% making good characters worse.
Sadly, it’s always the other way round which makes one play stupidly gimped characters which deal 2 damage a hit and have no useful tools by the time the third revision arrived.

This is exactly what I’m talking about. There should be NO downgrades to characters unless it literally broke your game.

Making everyone mediocre is why back in the day people didn’t give a shit to games like SFA2G or SFA3 Upper.

Major bump here, but I think the only way to achieve total balance is to give characters a context sensitive setup if the cast is 8+. There’s too many factors to perfect and eventually one character will always have some advantage over another. However, the solution I mentioned simplifies the matter.

For example; let’s say character A has at least one significant advantage over character B due to the range of an attack. If we reduce it, problems arise elsewhere. Now where character A had an even match with character C, the change made it so character A has a disadvantage in the fight. We could fix this, but it goes in a loop, which is why balance is hard. But imagine if character A simply had the extended hitbox in the fight he needs it but no others. That would solve it.

Now this is not without its own, though less problematic, issue. You’d need to study matchups harder and keep in mind that certain tactics won’t be viable at times. I think that’s really a good thing though.

From what I heard this is actually already in play at least to some degree in some games anyway.

It’s definitely worth skimming through if you’re interested in seeing why players dislike it. Based on what you were already saying, I don’t think that (m)any of the reasons will be entirely surprising to you, but I do think you may have underestimated how strongly people feel about it!

Would be my choice.

I found some airdashers with some universal systems to counter extreme levels of bullshit were happy. But if I were going to list games that I feel achieve a sense of balance and variety in tiers, I’d give that to Virtua Fighter 5 FS and the latest offering of Guilty Gear.

Skullgirls, GGAC, and Shaq Fu all come to mind.
