The Monster Hunter Thread: A Whole New World

HBG meta guns are:

Normal shot - Griffon Blazooka or Power Shooter II with both Diablos Greaves (normal shot armor skill) and elementless jewel.

Pierce - Legiana Shattercryst

Spread - Destructions Fusilade

Bow seems to be the only exception to the diablos raw damage + elementless meta.

Except for you know… The Lance. And Malady SnS W/ crit status and 100% crit and Blast Dual Blades and you know… Dozens of other things.

Still doesn’t address the low elemental damage boost from the skill. Using 1 to 3 quickly puts you at the damage cap. With the current set up, getting level 4 and 5 to surpass levels 1 to 3 requires weapons with base element that no weapons currently have. To get 5 to match level 3 (40 or more element) you need 800 base element, which very few weapons in previous games, in G-Rank, ever reached. Additionally, buffs such as from the Hunting Horn also abide by the cap (you’re not getting the full 40% unless you build your armor accordingly).

Meanwhile, elementless deco doesn’t have the same kind of cap. Just a flat 10% increase from a singe level 2 deco. Stack with raw attack (and, for bowguns, normal shot skill) and you have easier damage gains than building elemental sets.

That’s the thing about this game, I personally would enjoy running meta’s more if we could skin our weapons and gears, however since that’s unavoidable. I can’t stand looking at literally 98% of the Dual weapons out there, I mean, I literally use Holy Sabers 90%+ of the time for my Duals, and I know that flat out wrecks my potential dps.

However they’re the only duals that I really enjoy aesthetically while the rest are pretty barf city. Bows I’ve been way more willing to utilize meta builds for the highest dps possible because most of them aesthetically don’t look too bad (it’s hard to make a bow look ugly in MH imo), but Duals are my fave…and as it stands, most of them look fugly unfortunately.

I’ll be looking forward to when they add in reskins to the game.

Maybe when we get G-Rank. Some stuff, especially element skill seems tuned for when it gets added in (+4 and 5 literally need G-Rank base element damage to work).

Got it!!

Glad to see that Legiana’s HBG is among the top tier.
The gun’s design and sound effects are just badass!!

Have you played the other MH games? The axes and HBG are ALWAYS optimal with raw damage. Large Swords, Hammers, Lances have variety where the LBG, Small Swords and IG are always about abusing weaknesses, hence being referred to as shredding weapons.

Except most variety weapons are now favored towards raw damage. There are more than enough examples on the internet (and in the thread I shared). Heck, people will run raw in DB simply because Demon Mode boost Demon Mode, while the weapon also has a penalty on elemental damage anytime both blades hit at the same time.

People have done the math, elemental in this game is designed with G-Rank in mind since 4 and 5 do nothing until you have weapons with 600 to 800+ base elemental. Until then (or until either elementless is nerfed, or the cap is adjusted), raw is going to get favored more save for things like bow, LBG, DB, or IG.

You’re missing all the examples that contradict that. The Lance Thunderpiercer gets to 690 thunder element with decos. The weapons exist currently people are just not using them. Blue weapons that get 3 damage augments (most water weapons) are some of the best. Free element weapons are often really good as well. Archers Dance is a bow with massive hidden blast that’s easy to get 100% crit on to abuse crit element. The best SnS for most builds right now is Maladys Tabar III. Again, crit status, immobilizer amulet.

If anything is a problem it’s weakness exploit. It enables all those crit element/status builds and negates the weakness of raw weapons like Cera Coilbender and other Diablos tree weapons.

Elementless is part of the Lance meta as well but it’s not because of Elementless, it’s because of 100% crit on the augmented Garron weapon which has white sharpness combined with Teostra’s technique. Again, Weakness Exploit.

The Sapphire Star’s Guidance has got to be the most bullshit quest in the game… Like I don’t think there is anything that even comes close.

Still doesn’t contradict the data, since I don’t recall Thunderpiercer doing 690 base (it needs decos to get there), and element boost (and the cap) is calculated from base element.

WE isn’t really the main problem since it applies the same to both element and non-elemental weapons. It’s more just how much easier it is to boost raw damage since it doesn’t have a similar kind of cap. IMO, Nerg armor is more of an enabler for Diablos weapons thanks to the natural affinity boost (e.g. with the Blos Blazooka, I can get triple digit crits with Nerg armor, while getting blue crit running different armor with the same affinity and WE +3).

Thunderpiercer has base 540 it gets to 690 with decorations.

I beat Sapphire Stars Guidance. I’m now 101 with orange HR and rainbow armor pigment.

Starting to run out of things to do.

When do they generally release the G rank quests?

Usually with the first major expansion.

I’ve been jumping into random low rank or assignment SOS calls and carrying people lately. I’ve been using a support build. It’s absolutely broken.

If somebody doesn’t die in one hit they won’t die, ever, the heals are so off the charts you can just sit there spamming blue mushrooms and watching their health fly up.

You, yourself are also invincible. You can use a stack of 10 Mandragorans to just instantly full heal yourself. It’s busted as hell.

Fucking Clifford trolled me last night, during a free roam expedition on my 2nd playthrough account. I had just hit High Rank on it and I’m starting to farm him to work to getting the Karma LBG.

Anyways, I thought I had him just before he left the area in his den. He was trapped in a shock trap but would not go down from 4 traq ammo blast. The bastard breaks out, goes Berserker Barrage and gets two hit pounce that leads to dizzy canceled into fucking cart!!

Made my way back and unloaded swift punishment on his ass but he dipped out after getting back on his feet from a K.O.!!

The salt in my veins still remains!!

Just search for investigations to farm. You tend to get better rewards that way.

The chance of a monster leaving is why I don’t hunt them in expeditions.
