Now that I have a rarity seven weapon, rarity six Kinsect, and a full set of high rank armor, I feel like I can almost take on the world. I’m still not all there, though. Like, here’s a question: are there higher-ranked weapons and armor that can equip more than one gem on them? Every piece I have can only equip one. I actually have Airborne from a gem now, which let me swap out the Legiana arms for ones that give me Handicraft and Speed Sharpening, but I feel like I should have more attack gems than I do.
There is no rank higher than high rank yet, but yes, higher rarity armor and weapons are more likely to have more slots, especially the beta versions.
As for Attack Up decorations, those are VERY rare and you won’t even see one as a drop until you start doing Tempered monster investigations
See, I know the beta versions have more gem slots, but most of my gear is alpha right now because those are the pieces that have the skills I want. Like, the Barroth boots I have wouldn’t have Marathon Runner if I used the alpha ones. Ditto the Damascus gloves and the Nergigante belt. Maybe I should be running the Nergigante beta belt, but I feel like I should probably wait until I have gems worth shoving into the slots. Right now, all I have worth using are attack and flight.
Yeah, that’s how it goes early on until you build up a better selection of decorations, which just a takes a while. And of course it making a mixed set of alphas and betas already gets the skills you want, then great. Since you already have high rank armor though there is no rank above it so armor from a particular monster will not get any better than those alpha and beta sets(outside of upgrading the defense that is)
That’s good to know. In that case, I may well just stick with what I have unless something much, much better comes around. It also can’t be ass ugly.
Here’s what I’m wondering: is it optimal, or even a good idea, that my armor setup is heavily specialized the way it is? Airborne and Master Mounter are both much more useful to IG than to any other weapon, and almost every other skill I have (Marathon Runner, Speed Sharpening, Handicraft) exists to serve that specific weapon type. Like, yeah, Weakness Exploit and Attack Boost are good all around, but what happens when I’m faced with a really shit matchup for IG and I’m just bashing my head against the wall?
Addendum: It’s been said before, but I feel the need to repeat the sentiment that this game has so much going on. It makes my head spin. Weapon trees, elemental attacks, damage types, crafting, cooking, research. Fuck me.
Some skills work better for your chosen weapon than others. At times, a skill you think you need isn’t actually that necessary. I recommend checking out some guides either on YouTube (again, guys like Arekkz or Gaijin Hunter) or Reddit.
I mean, when I started with the heavy bowgun, I was picking up stuff that I didn’t really need and not getting stuff that I actually should have.
@d3v He’s starting to do armor skills videos to match weapon types. The way his videos were presented with straight forward detail, I thought he was established MH Youtuber.
But I have added already gajin hunter and Arekkz to my subscriber list and MH tips playlist.

hopes for Jurassic Park DLC
There are many armors pieces with three slots. I have two pieces of Kirin armor on and they have 2 & 3 slots respectively. Also once you’re done with tempered Kirin you can upgrade you weapon to have additional slots but they are pretty rare.
Also enjoy the feeling of invincibility while you can, the elder dragon are coming soon to crash the party
I had two and I used both of em as melding ingredient pretty early on…
that commercial is hilarious!
also why would anyone use LBG over HBG?
HBG is just too good compared to LBG or am I wrong?
LBG has some advantages over the HBG…
More mobility, rapid fire normal & elemental ammo which can stack up dps.
Some of the heavy bowguns like the Xino one do fire elemental ammo. Status ammo is solely the domain of the LBG though (excluding the bow).
Really there are a ton of factors with bowguns. There is clip size or reload speed of various ammos which effects sustained dps. There is recoil which in Monster Hunter is essentially firerate.
To answer the question above the LBG is basically like using dual blades where the heavy bowgun is the greatsword.
An update on where I’m at. I just caught all the rare endemic life for the trophies. Tonight I’m probably going to fight the three tempered Elders to get orange HR.
I’m going to grind Vaal on my first play-through account for that leg-piece for my huntress.
As for my 2nd; getting ready to venture into the Rotten Vale. I want start the road to get the Karma LBG, and get the Shattercryst HBG
I’m HR 91 atm, and trying to hit 100 sometime, however I’ve been busy lately so I haven’t had time to get on. Dual Blade 4Life, as back in MH1 I always wanted to use Duals, but they were pretty trash in there and BDS was the only way to go back then.
So glad that they’re not just viable, but super strong in this game, and I’m really happy about that. Loving the bow too, and I can see why the dps on it is also off the roof.
Super fun game overall, however as always my biggest complaints are that they should should have it so that you see the players running around on all floors within the base.
This way there would be 100x more interaction, because even when you join the same session with multiple other people, the fact that you can’t see one another unless you on the top floor detracts practically everyone from ever interacting.
Notifications for new Events need to be more Visible with In-Game Banners. I didn’t even know that they had the Ryu Event a long while back, and Aloy as well. I only found out through my cousin who also played the game.
This needs to be remedied, and more importantly, these “outfits” need to stop being armor and simply being a costume with a separate slot.
I want to use my Ryu on all runs, but it’s impossible on tempered because the armor itself is trash. Grouping up with Friends on your PS4 who play MHW should also be easier as well, and they should have an option when getting into the game to state if you want to join an Online friend if you choose too.
I understand you can click on the “Join Session” however an in-game option wouldn’t hurt at all.
In all in all, More interaction with players so that we feel like we’re a community in the Main Base with online sessions would do wonders for this game, and imo it would really give it greater longevity when farming monsters 24/7 becomes tiresome at times.
Not to mention Guild HUBs would be awesome with you’re own Unique Decorations would also be cool as well.
This game is super, Super fun, and has ridiculous potential (Like the Unique Pets possibly having more things to them then just simply catching them) etc, etc.
I love this game, and I hadn’t played a Monster Hunter game since MH1 came out for the PS2 all those years ago, so you can imagine the decade+ gap that I refrained from playing MH.
Oh yes…if it were possible, having skins like Ryu, Sakura makes me wished they had a unique weapon for their costumes so that they could punch, kick like their SF counterparts and their charge or special attacks could be things like the Shinkuu-Hadouken etc.
I would completely drop my Dual Blades and Main Ryu fistacuffs if that were ever implemented.
Here’s to hoping that I can grab Dante today.
See you guys on MHW.
GI Jho!!!
Elemental is meh and the current meta is swinging more towards raw damage, buffed by using elementless jewel.
There are two ways of maximising dps. Elementless and raw damage or crit element and elemental with crit from weakness exploit, crit eye etc.
Ultimately crit element does more damage but it requires more stuff and it’s more restrictive with the rest of the build.
Certain weapons like the Bow have their own metas right now with stuff like crit draw as well.
I dunno, current meta based on what I’ve seen people post about seems to be more biased towards non-elemental damage. From discussions I’ve had and participated in on Reddit, the issue is a combination of the Diablos weapons being some of the best in the game, and the fact that elemental damage has a low cap (you can reach it at +3).
So by your preference & experience which LBGS & HBGS should I be grinding for on this gunner only play-through!
Yeah, from what I’ve been seeing, raw damage + elementless is dominant other than crit element bow builds. There’s speculation they might nerf elementless or buff element, since one-build-does-all raw shouldn’t outdo monster-specific elemental builds in every way.
If you’re going to be in the face of a monster all day, the Jyuratodas LBG (rapid-fire spread 2) with close range x3 mods seems to be the choice of time attackers. Otherwise, Karma (Odogaron LBG rapid fire normal 2) does the job. I only use LBG for Kirin and Teo, though when I don’t want to get too close to a mobile monster.
