Everyone’s beat the game but I’ve been so concentrated on crafting weapons that I’m at like 60 hours and have put off hunting kushala and teostra for probablyyy…10 hours or more.
So, why do I hear that the IG is on the lower ends of the spectrum when it comes to tiers? Comparatively, the CB is considered the best weapon but im still killing everything faster and easier with the pukei glaive and a blast dust kinsect. Keeping the speed up high with the kinsect helps a lot too, you get those buffs way faster. I’m just air darth mauling everything and it feels good.
Hell, I made the diablos set just for looks but bludgeoner works awesome with the IG. You tend to lose blue sharpess pretty fast with it when doing airdash fuckery but bludgeoner lets you keep the dps up without having to sharpen so often.
You can get Bulwark Amulet that gives it too. I have it, you need a Research Commission Ticket which is pretty rare and Dragoncore ore. I’m not using it yet though as it’s pointless without the guard decorations as I need to wear Uragaan anyway.
You’re going to want two of each. You combine one of each with Bazelgeus material and carry all four on you. You’re handicapping yourself without them.
He’s part of the assigned quests if you want to keep going up in HR. It’s pretty unavoidable. I wouldn’t worry though, he seems a lot scarier than he is. Just bring flash pods and learn to recognise blast and you’ll be fine.
IG did get nerfed, but I think people are really downplaying it’s effectiveness. I use the Pukei Glaive as well as a Blast Kinsect and I melt things. The mobility, attack speed, and Kinsect effects are invaluable.
Level 3 Sheath? You talking about Quick Sheath? Not worth the points invested IMO. The old school Quick Sheath, Focus, Crit Draw build is still viable if you want to play like that, but I don’t think it’s optimal anymore with the introduction of shoulder tackle and True Charge Slash. Kick > Shoulder Tackle > Horizontal Attack (forget the exact name of the move) also does comparable damage to a charged draw attack for nearly the same amount of time, IIRC. Again, the biggest problem with this build is that you are only buffing your draw attack and nothing else. You are spending nine armor skill points to make your draw charge slash buff and nothing else. I’m actually not sure what pieces of armor have Quick Sheath right now but from what I recall most, if not all, were garbage and barely benefited Great Sword. On top of that, you are weakening the potential of your True Charge Slash damage because you invested so heavily into a Crit Draw build. Currently, point for point, Weakness Exploit is the absolute king for damage. There is no point in running Weakness Exploit in a Crit Draw build since it is redundant, meaning your True Charge Slash damage, and any other attacks that aren’t a draw attack, suffers greatly.
IMO optimal Great Sword armor skills are as follows:
Tier 1 (mandatory)
Attack Boost
Weakness Exploit
Non-Elemental Boost (when you have the decoration and it applies to your weapon)
Tier 2 (complementary after you focus on tier 1 skills)
Agitator
Maximum Might
Crit Boost
Tier 3 (optional based on preference and only if you can fit them in, or you want to play a different style)
Focus
Crit Draw
Quick Sheath
Crit Eye
Fortify
Granted there is always variance in Monster Hunter, which includes bringing a Palico, group play, and which monster you are fighting. For example, I use a Thunder resist Crit Draw build for Tempered Kirin because FUCK TEMPERED KIRIN. You’re never going to land a True Charge Slash in group play, maybe even solo, with how risky it is unless it’s knocked down.
Insect Glaive is, objectively, the worst weapon in the game when it comes to dealing out damage per second. However, this doesn’t mean anything because every weapon can easily clear every bit of content the game has to offer as long as you play well and your build isn’t trash (i.e. getting useless armor skills like Guard for a Bow). There will always be optimal builds and min/maxing and what not, but as long as you have fun and aren’t a detriment to your team if you are in a group, it’s all good. The best builds and weapons in the game are the ones you have fun with.
