The Monster Hunter Thread: A Whole New World

It’s going to be interesting to see how Western audiences take to this. Handheld gaming isn’t as big as in Asia, obviously, and the Wii versions of the game were incredibly niche compared to major releases on PS/Xbox. I’ve played Tri on the Wii and 4U on the 3DS and I’m excited to play again with English speaking co-op and party chat on the PS4.

I may never get a PS4 PSO, but this is looking like a fine substitute.

When you mention Asia you mean literally everywhere but Japan right? In Japan it’s pretty damn popular.

AFAIK, it has been confirmed by Capcom USA that the west will not be getting a localized version of XX.

Yeah, really stupid move by them. I imagine they were thinking XX would eat into World sales which is fucking dumb as hell. Most MH fans would of picked up both. My only reason for picking up a Switch was for MH titles coming to it, glad I waited and saved $400.

They are not releasing XX in the US because World will have a simultaneous worldwide release. They want their localization team to make that game their top priority. It will be great to be play MH on console again.

Would you rather play World like 6-8 months after Japan’s release? You’d rather they delay localizing a brand new, modern console title in favor of an updated version of X/Generations? That’s cool I guess. Y’all can sit there and be mad while the rest of us are having a blast in World.

I think they’re hoping World will win over Western gamers who aren’t as huge on Monster Hunter as Asians. They’re probably tweaking the game and planning the marketing around it and basically treating the game like a reboot, almost like when they did DmC.

There’s also the confusion that if you knew absolutely nothing about Monster Hunter you might get the wrong one with multiple products on the shelf in a short space of time. Yeah people are that dumb.
