The Monster Hunter Thread: A Whole New World

That’s the only reason why I will do the quest. The female armor looks amazing!

Finally got back around to this one. I swore I already did the character setup, but guess I was wrong. Basically started over from scratch. I just got through to Astera and picking my first weapon.

Bruh, you might as well go for the Defender weapons and armor!!
They’ll help you get through the game quicker.

UPDATE:
Since you’re starting over:

Is the Iceborne DLC a requirement at this point? I haven’t DLed it yet since I kinda want to go through some of the main quest.

It sort of is, but you can still do base game stuff without it.

The master rank items, monsters, multiple story expansions, and the rest of the good sh#@ all require the DLC.
But the clutch claw mechanic, and weapon balance updates come free.

So you’ll pretty much be stuck with base game HR stuff and quests, without the Iceborne DLC.

Iceborne content is all after the base game. It adds a whole extra rank. If you buy it now however, you do get access to a new mechanic and new attacks for all weapons.

Got it.

This sounds more like play it long enough to see if I like it and then purchase the DLC.

If I didn’t have the PS4 version, I would’ve retired from console MHW months ago, and just stuck solely with the PC version.

Thankfully the PS4 version has several exclusive armors and weapons.

Definitely wait out on Iceborne until you’re done with Vanilla MHW, and if the itch is still there, than grab it.

I would argue it’s the best DLC update for it’s value by far, considering most other games even for equal price, or slightly half that will have nowhere near the amount in terms of content, but more importantly, the amount of free updates you get along with that.

Hopefully you’ll enjoy Vanilla MHW enough that you’ll want to upgrade.

Not sure thats goos advice. Lemme explain. MHW is considered “easy” mode by old hunters out there and while it is more appealing and stuff, i’ve heard from many of these first timers that Iceborne is hard as balls (for them). So while they did enjoy vanilla MHW they arent exactly thrilled with Iceborne and fighting monsters with the same HP as Safi. Now if you like or have played the old MH games then this is probably an improvement in terms of gaming and content.

By SOME old hunters. Plenty that are just fine with the difficulty level and can already realize that a LR/HR only game is always easier than G-Rank or now Master Rank. Let’s not pretend the base games of past entries weren’t easier as well compared to their U versions

not having G rank will def make them easier in comparison. But we can all agree MHW difficulty is not the same to say Tri or Gen, that’s why I pointed out the jump from World to Iceborne may feel different to those who just started. In short, G rank will obviously increase difficulty but the gap is probably wider right now. Although that is ofc debatable

Played a little bit more this evening. Did the very first hunt. Weapon of choice at the moment is the Charge Blade. Haven’t really dived much into it, but seems like it has the potential to go full jackass.

I don’t mind things being difficult. it’s moreso if it’s the game beating me instead of the target that makes me want to rage quit.

Clutch claw requires Iceborne.

One of those exclusive weapons is even best in class, while also providing an exclusive mechanic.

I thought to use the Clutch Claw you didn’t need Iceborne DLC just the patch/title update

I now understand why people pour hours into this title. Learning how to space attacks seems to be my challenge at the moment. Otherwise, I’m digging it so far. One question, is there any way to lock-on during combat? Is R3 pretty much the closest thing to it?

No, you need Iceborne. Any new content after AT Nerg is IB only

There is no true lock-on, you have to learn spacing and aiming manually, which is actually important since monster parts all have different “defense” so you have to consider what areas you hit.

I take it that you “learn” those defense points as you research monsters. I noticed the color difference in the numbers as the tell-tale sign.

Or just through experience, yeah. Heads being a weak point is commonbut there are cases where others are better. Depends on your damage type too. For Blunt damage you almost always attack the head anyway for example. Cutting has more variety in targets. Same with Shot damage
