Monster Hunter X Won’t Feature Monster Subspecies - Siliconera

The information comes from an interview in the magazine (Nintendo Dream), where the developers said “it depends on what exactly you consider a subspecies,” but for example, monsters listed as “Rathalos Subspecies” and other “subspecies” won’t make an appearance in the game.

Capcom explained that the reason is because they want to add more variety of regular monsters, rather than adding more monster subspecies, instead.

Domestic MHX? Fuckin’ giggity!!

Hey, I just got Wystones in 4u…is there a point to them/are they necessary later? I fought frenzied Brachydios, hit it a few times with the stone power-up…didn’t really notice a difference cuz I was already rocking his shit, and he stayed frenzied. I thought they were supposed to temporarily eliminate frenzy in monsters.

IIRC, the stones have different effects. One of them knocks the monster out of Frenzy after you’ve done enough damage, knocked it down, or staggered it. Another increases the damage you deal, and another reduces the damage you take.

I’m so fuckin hype for MHX! Haven’t played MH4U in ages though. All my friends stopped so quickly. Even though it was my first MH game I played a ton, I still managed to get from HR1 to G2 all solo. Doing the key quests to get G3 was ridiculous though so I never got G3 I haven’t been active on SRK in forever, but I should have know there would be other people to play with here.

I wonder how long until there is an MHXG. Since there are only LR and HR quests in MHX. Should still be a ton of fun. Can’t wait to play with the variations.

It depends on the stone, some cause you to take less damage some cause you to do more. I think there is some one for more element damage and such that you can unlock later. The Drive wystone is necessary if you want to hit Apex monster (you’ll bounce off otherwise). Either way, if you have a stone active and do enough damage, they’ll return to their normal version temporarily.

Monster Hunter Generations Almost Had Two New Weapons - Siliconera

Hunting Hound

The Hunting Hound was a gunner class whose primary weapon was, well, a dog. The dog could have armor made for it (the book shows a design for Kirin’s armor) that would give it unique attacks and behavior. It was also designed to be able to find Monsters based on scent, or climbing to high places.

The player would issue commands in the form of button combos to coordinate different attacks – for example, the book shows you being able to target body parts, like the tail, or focus on breaking horns, and so on. Issuing a “follow the tail!” order would even have the pooch follow the Wyvern into the air! The player could ride it to move about the map faster, and it could be fed to recover health or stamina.

Wyvern Boomerang

The Wyvern Boomerang looks like an even more developed weapon concept, with combos already designed. The heavy weapon had an overhead attack not unlike the Great Sword, but the diversity is in its throwing attacks and how the player interacts with it in midair. X would throw it straight forward, X+A would throw it upward into the air, and A would be a round-house throw.

Now, for the interesting part – before catching the boomerang after a throw, it looks like there was a mechanic built into it where the player could literally punch it back out into the air towards a Monster. It could even break into two for more advanced combos. This is a nice reflection of The Great Macao, whose motif was boxing – both with its hands and its feet.

The move to handheld was probably the right choice, as it made ease of access to the game much better. Being able to do coop from home OR meet up with friends without relying on a console is pretty sweet, not to mention the game is both great in small bursts or long grinds.

i have very fond memories of tri and i can definitely see how someone who played a ton of MH1/tri/3U would dislike the portable versions because they’re portable. (and then there would be some nitpicks with the game that are issues with 4U itself and have nothing to do with it being on 3ds.)

maybe dislike isn’t the right word to use here. it’d be more of a feeling of the game not delivering on what you would expect from a sequel and missing things that were present in older games (like street fighter 5 ohohoho).

shit even thinking about it makes me less eager for MHX

I will eventually buy MH3U/WiiU. But until it comes back to console, I will never care. Ever.

I’ve seen plenty of other people playing the newer ones through Twitch/YouTube ect. Handheld versions
of this series is a joke IMO. A complete loss of potential.

I realize bringing MH back to console/PC, would take me owning nearly all of CAPCOM’s stocks
and forcing it to happen…
