The mma thread. UFC Fight island is real: Everybody died

Really i judge a fighger based on how they react to adversity.

McGregor just falters and gets frustrates. You just see khabib sapping all the fight out the dude.

That is the reason I don’t like Nick Diaz. He basically folds up shop if you don’t stand in the pocket and bang with him.

Garry taking to mma way better than I thought he would

His floating hip passing and back control are amazing.

We havent seen anyone who can stuff his shot for any length of time yet. That opponent will answer a lot of questions.

I love how he isnt rushing for a submission either. Hes happy to control, strike, transition. Hes giving himself extra experience. Smart dude.

I agree though he’s looked great so far… And he hasnt looked for one leg lock yet has he?

Leg locks open you to punches. Getting them is because you catch it in a scramble

Tonon is happy to keep position and dominate by taking the least amount of damage

A gifted striker keeping his range with great tdd is a nightmare match for tonon at this point

Considering where he fights atm he should be cool

It really depends on the set up. I like nicky Ryan’s approach to the game, he uses leglocks to initiate scrambles. That’s how he really won adcc trials at 17…it was mostly off of these scrambles he created and took most people’s backs.

He did look for a leglocks either in his first or second match but abandoned it for position.

How did the match play out?

I’ll get back this comment next week… Need to simmer on the match

Askrens getting blast doubled into hell

You think he’ll lose?

Def. Burroughs is still wrestling at the highest levels

@brabochoke

I got swept a bunch. And I got put in some nasty sub attempts, I escaped a Kimura, triangle and a tight bow and arrow. I took him down once and couldn’t stay heavy to keep him down and I ended up in his guard and passed but didnt keep him there.

Had I pushed the pace alot more I prob would done better. He was Def the more tired of the two of us. He was also Def way heavier than me, he mounted twice and I Def could tell he was cutting from 155-160ish to 145. Which also explains why he was so tired.

I know I need to fix staying heavy and holding people down as well as stop getting swept like I weigh 110 lbs.

Im mad i didn’t do more attempts at subs. I have some set ups from guard pass with a lapel choke I didn’t try. As well as the way I got out of the bow and arrow is I was one hand crushing his foot and he released it because it either hurt or he was scared I was gonna fuck it up. It was a game of chicken and I won that

I was going to say… you said you were way under weight.

That had to have been a big factor.

Good stuff. I can see why people say they enjoyed the match.

So you know your escapes are great and you can takedown and pass.

Sounds like if you work on your base whilst passing and avoiding the sweeps you will be able to implement your game more.

Having the submission defense as a safety net is fucking awesome though kudos for that. Esp the bow and arrow.

How were you swept?

Yeah I was worried I was gonna be over. Only one shot at weighing in, so I ended up being 140 instead of 145. I’m naturally a light person so this has happened a bunch when I cut weight. I cut weight dumb easy.

I’d have to watch the tape… I feel like I may have been scissor swept or maybe in a scramble. I can’t remember for sure atm.
