i used to think the whole “muay thai + bjj” combo seemed flawed because it operates on the premise that, “i can beat him on my feet and if he takes me on the ground, i can beat him on the ground.” but the way i thought of it it seems that if your opponent has the wrestling ability to either keep it on feet or take it to the ground, he only has to be better at one of the two aspects to beat you, where you’d have to be better at both to beat him. or something like that.
kind of mind blowing that someone could actually pull off the “i dont care where the fight happens, im advantaged either way” gameplan off… i dont even want to believe it really.
what sport do athletes play full seasons with broken toes? nfl players are sidelined with broken toes all the damn time, hell i recall a few top tier running backs missing like half the season due to turf toe. bottom line is that you’re feet aren’t really anything to fuck with.
Toe is a big deal for basketball players too. Shaq endured a lot of injuries over the years, but it wasn’t the broken hand or the knee surgery or the back problems that slowed his career down significantly after his glory years in L.A. - it was his stubbed toe. Yao Ming’s recurring toe and foot problems are what ultimately ended his career recently also.

Always watch Shooto, DEEP, ZST, etc. Urushitani (Shooto 125 lb champ) will most likely come stateside as soon as the UFC makes a 125 division. Mamoru Yamaguchi is fighting in Tachi Palace right now and doing well. Ueda just beat Sato, and most likely will move from Shooto within the next year. His chain wrestling is ridiculous. Tokoro is back in the swing of things. Mizuto Hirota is taking on Kikuno at DEEP 55 for the LW strap. Tatsunao Nagakura is fighting Koichiro Matsumoto for the 145 lb strap in DEEP too. Lion Takeshi is ever improving and actually fighting with game plans now so I expect big things from him. Tokoro is getting his shit together finally and just looking for wins instead of exciting wins.
Ishida, is still someone to look out for. Kuniyoshi Hironaka is finally at 155 where he should have always been and has beaten Nakakura, and recently beat Boku for the Shooto WW (155 strap).
Even though Miyata just lost to Takaya, both are something to look out for. Takaya’s poor outing at SF was still a poor decision. Aoki is still ballin’ and Kawajiri is still top of the heap too.
There’s a lot but apparently Satoshi Ishii (lol retired for USA olympics 2016) is now fighting PAULO FILHO. Filho has fallen off. Ishii is too big and should win this fairly easily.
Another guy who has all the talent but refuses to pull the trigger at all is Keisuke Fujiwara. He has power, some good technique, good takedowns and control and good submission defense. But his fights in DREAM he’s been afraid to do anything and it’s frustrating.

I haven’t followed alot of the WEC fighters but shouldnt Fiho still win? Considering Ishii is still really green and is basically just a Judoka. Also, considering the event is a Brazilian promotion they would favor Brazilian fighters I’m sure. When I saw the matchup I was like wow… feeding Ishii to the wolves.
