It really depends on a lot of things that aren’t talked about. From an MMA perspective it’s tough to kick through something and not fall on the ground. Not like TKD or point sparring where you rechamber a kick. Your actually putting your weight through. Except in MMA you have to balance your self on the soles of your feet so you can alternate between bobbing, slipping, stepping, sprawling, and countering with a punch. All different kinds of weight shifts. If your mind is thinking kick but your body is thinking sprawl than people end up busting their ass.
But most importantly is the flooring. Every cage has a floor made in a different way. I can’t tell you how theyre made but I can tell you they all feel different. UFC is famours for it’s floor like sandpaper. If you shoot a double you can get really really good explosion off because the floor has really good grip. Not just that, but the ads that UFC puts on the cage floors are almost spray painted in so stepping on to the add spots feel no different than any other part of the cage.
Compare that to Strikeforces cage where it is a lot smoother. Getting good explosion off the shot is much more difficult. Shrimping and reangling from the bottom of guard is a little easier too and won’t scrape your back up. Also Strikeforce’s ads are placed in a different way. They are almost like stickers that are applied on top of the cage floor so not only are they more slippier than the other sections but if water or blood ends up on the advertisements than it gets that much smoother.
Not really saying the UFC cage is better than the Strikeforce cage, but Im saying that there is a big difference on footwork when fighting in it. It’s about the same as playing football on grass and playing football on turf. If you have skills you can play on either, but you wanna know which one you are using before you get out there so there is no surprise. I’ve heard stories about people jacking their knees up in the cage warmups at their first UFCs because they didnt realize their was so little give on the floor.
Of course the guy tonight slipped in the UFC floor so that doesnt explain why he fell. It prolly has more to do with a desperate strike thrown without thinking it through.
Yo why the hell werent there fights to see who gets in this year? I always enjoyed the first eps of TUF seasons because theyre just jam packed with the qualifying fights. Fuck a 2 hour evaluation.
i’mma say that the dude that blew his knee out lucked out big time. his knee was probably already a little fucked up and blowing out in the cage just got him free surgery and rehab.
Thanks for the input fellas. So I just heard that Mike Kyle withdrew from his fight against Mousasi because of a broken hand and apparently Kongo is going to replace him.
generally my theory is whenever the ufc is light on healthy fighters for a certain division they tend to not have a fight to get onn a show. when they did the heavyweights they didnt fight to get on and they were hurtin for fighters then,.
It’s not that relevant. They didn’t have them fight to get onto season 10 because Kimbo was on and they didnt want to risk the very real possibility of him getting cut in the first episode. It was that simple.
Hundreds of people signed up for TUF this season and their is no problem at all finding welterweights in any country. They just chose not to this year. I would bet a hundred bucks that this was a Spike TV decision and not a UFC one.
Epic heel on heel action, but even though I think Daley is a self centered punk I will as always be picking Diaz to lose by round one KO. Out fucking cold, in a seizure and/or drooling on himself if at all possible.
Eh, if it was gonna happen, Daley’s a good one to do it. At least he can punch. Unfortunately for him, he can’t do a damn thing besides that. We’ll see how it plays out. Every fight starts standing (and Nick likes to keep it there, even though he can finish it almost immediately once it hits the mat. Dat Gurgel mentality, I guess)
